I have successfully installed my second sound decoder this time in an Amtrak Dash 8-32BHW. First install was a Via Rail P42, also a success. I am left with one last final touch. I would like the sound to reflect notch 6 for the HEP system, at all times. Any ideas?

What brand sound decoder?
I know Soundtraxx has settings that will allow manual notching, you can run the sound up to 6 and leave it there.
It is a Soundtraxx decoder. I noticed the section on the manual notching. Would I be asking too much of the decoder for load effort difference from the monotone notch 6 when departing? Also, to get a bit off topic, any suggestions on just a sound decoder for a cab car?

That would be the perfect task for a QSI decoder. Turn the prime mover sounds to 0, they have really good bell and horn sounds.
Not that you are going to want to change decoders, but Loksound has a decoder sound file that emulates the HEP power unit via function control. Works exactly as the proto-type.

I have used loksound in the past. The only thing that it didn't do was the GE compressor "wooop". Call me picky, but its hard not to imagine GE power without that sound. Unless recently there has been a change in the compressor sounds?

ESU / Loksound just recorded a couple all new GE sounds last month. They got a really good sampling of the GE "whoop" compressor as well. Expect to see it available in the near future along with many other new sound files ....
