I moved this over to this forum, probably mr-4x12 terr3.jpgmr-4x12 terr2.jpgmineral range 4x12 layout reve flx.jpg

should have put it here in first place sorry
I am new to all this I have been researching layouts to build in N Scale. Finding nothing that suited me I took the Mineral range layout from the Atlas book and modified it to fit my 4x12 design I wanted in SCARM. I want to use DCC and am studying it all. I could use some help though if some one could look over my layout and mark where I should put the reversers and other critical points like breaking into sections/blocks? Also will I need and how many extra booster stations?
I uploaded a jpg of the layout if someone could mark it up and upload it that would be awesome :)
I took the Mineral range and built it in Scarm then I split it and expanded it to fit 4x12. I then added an extra siding line on the far left section and a whole line that runs around a mountain then straight across the front sections where I want to put a coal mine operation for a long coal train to run through etc. I used atlas code 80 mostly flex track.
Thanks in advance for help

Truthfully this is a big headache when it comes to reversing sections. Any dogbone where there is a crossover there is a problem. This plan has two. That is compounded by the arrangement of the sidings in the loops themselves. Finally compounded by that alternate path loop that creates a reversing loop in a reverse direction. That is just for the short circuits themselves. A reversing section on a model railroad has to be long enough for the longest train to fit into. Then finally the isolation needs to be in such a way that only one train at a time is entering or exiting a given reversing section.

So in the diagram below the three red marks are the tracks causing the electrical issues. NONE of them are long enough to be a reversing section. Conventional wisdom would say that each of the yellow sections then needs to be isolated with its own auto reverser unit. (and actually probably 1 more on the left because of the extra crossover and for the enter/exit 1 at a time issue). Then one has to deal with the counter flowing loop which could be several places. I chose the pink hoping that would be long enough for a train. But looking at this a while, I think instead of reversing the "loops" I would reverse the "mains". That is isolate the two parallel tracks at the top and put a reverser on each (blue and green lines). I've stared at it long enough now I've become blind to any faults that idea might have, so thoughts from other denizens would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time and efforts, Though Im still confused as to what to do or what changes to make to have it work. I will keep studying it and hopefully gain some insight. The original was 4x8 from Atlas book. I spit it where you see the tunnels and expanded it to 12 ft. the other change was adding the front line (that you put in pink). Thanks all for your help

Maybe this will help. Here is the original plan from the atlas site: http://www.atlasrr.com/Code80/pages/11012.htm The yellow line is where I split it and expanded to 12ft. The blue line I added but is within a loop so I didn't think is would be a problem. The pink line I added which will curve around a mountain then the straight line will go thru a coal mine. I have put the image atlas has to DCC wiring of their original but its greek to me as of now. but maybe help in finding a solution. I'd really like to keep the pink line I added but could mod if needed. Would it help it the left end entry came from the other way off the loop?
