ok saw my decoder is 8 pin and runs perpendicular to the loco as does the socket on the board, the problem is it wont fit in this loco. Do i have to buy a different decoder or is their a adapter to make it fit?
Ken
What do you mean it won't fit? If the loco has an 8 pin socket and the decoder has an 8 pin connector it should fit. Sometimes you have to press down a bit firmly to get the pins to go into the socket. Also is it possible that you have the connector turned the wrong way? Pin #1 needs to go in the socket for pin #1. Should fit in either way, but would not run if right pins aren't in right socket .
Also is it a hard wired deocoder with pins right on the board or does it have wire leads from the pin connector to the board?
I think there is an adaptor that will let a decoder sit a little higher to clear the motor or what have you.
A pic or a part number would help solve the problem...

Right, if this is one of those that has the pins right on the board (as opposed to at the end of the wire harness) and the problem is that it won't fit under the shell, then you want to get rid of it and use a decoder that does have a wire harness which will then allow you to move the decoder elsewhere, instead of directly on top of the existing pc board.
Come to think of it though, I'm surprised that an older Bachmann would have an 8 pin socket in the first place.

I'm reading this on my Kindle Fire and things almost always load just like a regular computer, but I don't see any reference to any brand of locomotive. Am I missing something? Not trying to be smart because a few things do load differently, just curious. Also, he might mean that there is not enough space in the body for the decoder and the motor and drivetrain. Kind of vague.

Oops, you're right. Confusing this post with another about converting a Bachmann to DCC.
sorry i wasn't clear it won't fit under the shell, it goes in perpendicular not parallel!
It's for a train!!!..........use a bigger hammer!!!! Oh, wait. We're not talking prototype.

Sounds like you will need a different decoder. Bummer.
yeah i'm kind of a dcc newbe, but i just received a new loco today and it will work in there, problem solved!
