Hello ALL

Help required from all hobby makes.......

I purchased two walthers locomotives, one is walthers Amtrack PA and another is Walthers Amtrack (Silver color). Both are working good.:)
Now these locomotives only have a motor and do not have provison for installing any 8 or 7 pin decoders.

How can we convert these analog locomotives into Dcc, Which decoder should I use and what are the steps

You'll have to "hardwire". You will be buying the shrink wrapped decoders, not the plug & play board types. Your LHS should be able to assist you with which one to get. Make sure the motors are isolated. They should be, but it pays to check. Use a VOM and touch each side of the motor pickups to the frame. If you don't get a beep, you're good to go. Hard wire instructions are with each decoder brand, but as a rule, the red & black wires go to the track pickups (red-right; black-left) orange wire to motor positive, gray wire to motor negative, blue & white wire to headlight bulb, yellow & blue wire to backup light if equipped. If there is a PC board the lights are connected to, you will probably have to fit reisitors to avoid blowing the bulbs. Many early Walthers models changed this board from model to model so there is no standard resistor value. That's the short version. If you can use a soldering iron, you should be able to do this.
