Couplers

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I have several older HO cars with the older style couplers and wish to replace them with the newer style knuckle type (e.g., the Kadee No. 5). So far, so good. I just checked and some of the cars have the couplers attached to the trucks. Accordingly, the Kadee gear boxes won't work.

Two things:

1. Is there are chart reflecting all types of HO couplers so I know what I'm talking about? I looked, but could not find one on the Internet.

2. What do I purchase to convert the older style to the newer Kadee knuckle type so I have the new knuckle type with (or convertible) to those attached to the trucks?

Thanks.

I used KaDee #212 Talgo Truck Adapters with usually #5 couplers on my kid's cars. They work fine, but body mounting #5 in pockets would probably be better, but this was quick and easy. ;)
