As I arose from my sleepy slumber this AM I looked at the temp-o-meter......

44 DEGREES!!!

What the......!!!!!!

Winter be comin' early this year, I think. Hoosierland had one of the coolest Augusts on record, I believe. And it looks like September may follow suit. Maybe I'd better go retrieve my winter toys from the Northland. So much for global warming.

Anyway, now that I've gotten everyone's attention, I am removing paint from a few engines today. I've got a couple of old AHM/Rivarossi E units the need to be stripped and taken to the paint shop. One an Amtrack the other a Great Northern. I don't know to what road they will be assigned as of yet, but imagine that C&O may be getting at least one of them. I hope I have retained my masking talents from the model car days. And I need to visit WalMart to get some rattle cans. I really miss the the equipment in Michgan. I may have to invest in a second small compressor and set of airbrushes since I am unsure of when I'll get back up north.

Our big freezer decided to puke yesterday(again). It's only three years old.Last time it was a faulty defrost mechanism. Hopefully it's something just as cheap this time. Luckily we have other freezers to take the stuff from the broken down one. But if another would go down, we may be in a pickle.

And to add to the mess, The better half dropped a big skillet yesterday. It bounced off of the floor and hit the range. You got it, the glass on the front of the range disintegrated. Little pieces of smoked tempered glass all over the kitchen. Oh, well, there goes those two Proto 2000 F3's I was a-watchin' on eBay. Looks like the Appliance Center is gonna get some of my train money.

Yesterday definitely wasn't her day as the drain hose came off of the washer in the utility room too. Actually it came loose from the drain outlet. And the faucet in the bathroom had a handle break. Looks like I'll be imitating a plumber today. She has been wanting that faucet replaced for a couple of years now. (No comments from the back of the room about me being a procrastinator the faucet she wants is on of those high neck jobs, costs $200And the old one was fine until yesterday.)

I'll call the bank up north and have them transfer some funds to the local bank here. The problem is the local vault takes days to post the funds. I think they still use an abacus here. I hate the banks in Marion. All of them are so antiquated that I think they still hire people like Bob Cratchett to do the book work. Slow? Well, lets just say that they lack the speed of a 21st century world and leave it at that. Even the banks of a backward, laid back area like Upper Michigan moves faster than the banks here.

Anyway, looks like we will get to take samplings from a few of the restaurants locally. There are a few nicer establishments. A couple of really nice Mexican restaurants. One is located in an old NKP depot. I almost bought that building a few years back. Wish I had now. It would have made a really nice business front(like an LHS), and maybe even hosted a club. Oh well, water under the bridge now.

Got a call yesterday evening with an offer on Tom's house. $45,000 under the asking price. You gotta be kidding. The house and property appraised at $210,000.Not an acceptable offer, and that's what I told the Realtor. But, I emailed his two kids with the offer, telling them what I thought. So far, I've gotten one reply of "Oh, h*ll no!!". It's only been on the market a short time and it's the first offer. I told them to decline and give it some time. Even in a depressed market, the property is worth much more than the offer. It is listed below the appraised value anyway by almost $20,000. The tenders wanted a flooring and paint allowance too. They want something on the cheap. Can't blame them. But, they need to be more realistic. New flooring was put in just a couple of weeks ago. And I repainted the entire interior and exterior trim.

The roof is only 3-years old. New high efficiency furnace and cooling system was installed in 2007. Brand new water heaters. Updated, modern kitchen and the appliances stay. It's a steal as is. Add the two out buildings and the size of the property.......

Anyway, time to fix me some morning grub. A BLT sounds mighty tasty. I haven't had one of those in a while. And typing with my mouth full isn't polite.

Bob

Good morning

We're having another sunny day---this time without the mix part:D:D And we have not had any rain during the Western Fair ---yet:):) High today will be 22c and our low will be 6C. Right now we are at 7C.

Did not get out of the university until early this morning--got hung up in a discussion on some points from a class---:confused::cool:

Gonna be a kind of cluttered weekend around here--nice engineering department gonna be closing down a major E-W bridge this weekend for some construction destruction:eek::rolleyes: We'll have to find alternate routes to go to work on Saturday-----sheeeesh:eek:

What a week this has been. Put almost 1,300 miles on my HHR, visited with Glendia's best friend from high school and visited Niagara Falls. Glendia's friend lives just west of Rochester NY in a little town called Spencerport. She had a really good time as her and Susie had lost touch for the last twenty years and reconnected about 5 weeks ago. So she had some thing to take her mind off the loss of her mother. On the way home we were going to be coming thru Buffalo NY, anyhow so we made the detour up to the Falls. I made some great brownie points this past week. Tuesday my brother Joe came down form the Chicago area and we planned on meeting for breakfast yesterday morning and Glendia said she wanted to go with me. Well I got up and went without her, well we did not have any milk in the house for breakfast so I wiped out all the brownie points I had accumulated and then some. I got back on the good side somewhat yesterday afternoon as we did anything she wanted. We went to the Indiana State Museum in INDY and had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. So overall this week has been great and now we qre getting back to our normal schedule and life thank goodness.

Wow!
Who knew there are so many bikers on this forum?

Phillip- Looks like we have a lot in common, including the same shirt and jeans size.:p Thanks for the additional pictures of your bike.

The bike looks a lot better than either one of us. :D
My time is coming soon. On Halloween, they let me out for a few hours without a paper bag over my head. A motorcycle gives me an excuse for wearing a dark-shielded full-face helmet all the time in public.:o

When I first went looking at Corvettes, I told my wife I wanted a Vette long enough to get it out of my system.... in a year or so. That was about 6 years ago. So now I think I can sell the '81, buy a bike and enjoy that for a year or so....or more.

Also, I can start looking for one of the wife's wants, a ragtop. I might be able to find her a Corvette convertable as a surprise.

Anyhow, I have to do some saving before I buy much of anything. Maybe I can squeeze in an engine and a couple of boxcars before I go after two-wheeled rolling stock.

I need to go work on my plans for acheiving a bike and a Vette Vert in the next 12 months. What is that old saying about the plans of men and mice oft going astray?

I got most of the junk off the layout today and spent a lot of time and energy sorting things into boxes. This evening I got an invitation from my parents to go down and have dinner with them. That's something I seldom refuse. Pork chops with sauteed onions, mixed vegetables and salad. That was good. My average daily meals combined supply about 900 calories at the max. I can safely say I went over that today.

Sheeesh!!

I actually got out in time to post in here! Spent all day basically fighting traffic, getting lost trying to find new clients homes and avoiding barrels of construction destruction:eek:

I'm finding a few interesting things in my pix files---I'll pop in with them every so often-----

Have a good one:D

Good morning folks

Temperature according the van thermometer was 61 F this grayish morning. High will be 76 F.

I thought last night was going to be uneventful. Then we had to go out and search for a book my daughter needs for a book report for school. It only took us three book stores and one teenage meltdown to find it. Of course it took most of the evening so no trains.

This weekend is the grocery weekend. On Saturday there is the Riverwalk Festival along the Delaware River in Delaware County which we will most likely partake in. There are five or six locations that events will be occurring at throughout the riverfront towns. We will most likely hit the Cradle of Birding Festival at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Tinicum and then most likely windup in Marcus Hook. Sunday should be a recovery day.

I hope everybody has a good day.

By request, just for you, Barry.........

Mornin' all!

The sun's up!

And so am I!

Supposed to be beautiful weather today and tomorrow, with a chance of rain Sunday. I'm good with that!

I'm going to see about cutting out of here a little early today and I'm taking the family to a bike rally / camping trip. Should be fun! It'll be mostly BMW bikes there, but there'll be some cruisers and whatnot there as well. I'll be carrying the Kawi banner with at least one other Drifter in attendence, so we may not be strong in numbers, but we're representing in high style!

I added my 2up seat last night, along with my 1969 Harley tour pack project. It's far from done, but it's servicable and at least semi decent looking (read: not completely ugly). I'll try and catch a pic of it later and throw it up for ya. It changes the look of the bike completely from what I showed the other day.

Oh well, I've gotta get busy if I'm gonna get outta here!

Later!

Good morning everyone.

I just got back from my mid week weekend with my lovely bride. We had what could only be referred to as a glorious three days. It was one of those trips where you don't have much planned so you go where ever the wind takes you. Well, the wind took us to my former local hobby shop!

I can't believe how much his inventory has gone down in the last year and a half. It was like visiting someone in the hospital. My wife told me to buy something because he may not be there when we come back. Well, if I've learned one thing in fifteen years of knowing my wife, the lady speakith the truth! I found a Walthers front street warehouse for sale. The date on the bar code said 07-24-98! I couldn't believe I was going to pay full retail for an eleven year old kit! The reason I did is that I can't find this kit anywhere. Quite frankly, I couldn't believe he had it there. I guess I can chalk that up as a reason to visit hobby shops that I know charge full retail. You never know what you're going to find. I also bought some Woodland Scenics clump foliage in a color I've never seen in person. That's the one thing I really wish I had local hobby shop for. You just can't tell the colors by looking online. Unfortunately, hobby shops can't survive on selling clump foliage only.

Well, my boss is going to Europe for the next twelve days so I'll be a little busier at work. To be honest with you, we won't really notice that he's gone.

Have a great day everyone!

BOC- what is that white stuff on the ground in the pictures you posted? I hope they are not pictures you took this week!

Phillip- Sounds like a fun family weekend. Many people don't realize how many motorcyclists are into family oriented, charity sponsoring events.

A couple years ago, my church was the end of a 75 mile run for about 200 bikes, through the "fall colors" in the mountains of Alabama to raise money for our minister's daughter. She had brain cancer and the money raised helped her beat the odds. The chemo caused a couple big problems for a 4 year old, including hearing loss. But she is now running around with all the other kids her age.

We got about 4 inches of rain overnight and there are several creeks flooding the roadways. It may interfere with washing and waxing the Vette this weekend. guess I'll just have to spend more time at the "sidewalk sale"!

Mikey That was taken last November. No need to worry--we don't need that yet!:) I'm looking through the archives here----:D
Good to hear that your ministers daughter beat the cancer---:):) That is always tough on a child---have had a client or two whose children went through that

Jeffery- I found the soldering iron I have needed the last 3 months.... at the bottom of my toolbox.
If it had been on top of the layout where it belonged, I would have found it quickly.
Y'all have a great weekend.
I hope everyone's football team wins... even the one Rex favors!;)

Hi there, Flo.

Just coffee, thanks......with a little kicker if you got some behind the counter......

Oh, I was just passin thru....thought I'd stop in and have a look around....

Looks like you have quite a crowd....is it always like this?

great.....maybe I'll stop by for coffee........once in awhile.....meet some folks.

well, thanks for the coffee and chat, Flo.....see you again sometime....

Hi Notch, welcome to the Shop - and the Forum!

This is where we all talk about off-topic stuff as well as trains. Everything that is, except politics - the Forum Boss forbids that because it can get kind of divisive.

Tell us a little about yourself - where you're from, do you have model trains and if so, what scale, etc..
