HAPPY BIRTHDAY REX!!

Comcast is weird. I sent an email to a Comcast address from the mailbox where my website is hosted; the Comcast server bounced the message and said that my web hosting company had been classified as a "spam producer"!? But I sent another message to the same guy a day later, and it got thru.

Sandy nice pics. Never been to that part of the country myself, but flown over it dozens of times.

Rex HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!:D:D:D

Got two loaders kind of in the wet stages for the Williston Elevator Co. site. Sorta modeled after this little fellow near Denfield ON. When I finish detailing them then I'll try out my close up skills on the things:rolleyes::eek::):)

Last week I posted about some steam locomotives I'd gotten. The Challenger I posted about has been sold, along with a lot of the stuff that was with it. I've managed to get all the locomotives running well, with the exception of the little brass 0-4-0 Camelback. That one runs with coaxing, but not well.
When I went back to the LHS today, they gave me the instruction sheet for it. It is a Mantua brass kit, which explains the cast metal tender. On the bottom of the instructions it shows a print date of December 1946. Since it doesn't really (at all?) fit the era or locale I want to model, I've decided to let it go to another home. If any of y'all want it, let me know, I'm going to put it in the "for sale" area in the next couple of days.

Good morning folks

It was 63 F and sunny on the way to work this morning. It was so sunny that sun glare was causing traffic problems. High will be 82 F.

We had a laid back weekend. I actually caught up on some sleep for a change as the honey-do list was small. I worked on some scout stuff; mainly scheduling our popcorn show and sell locations. I even cleaned up around the workbench and cleared off some extras that got placed on it during the recent kitchen faucet installation.

Friday night we took our Cub Scouts to 69th Street Terminal to give some SEPTA Transit Police officers the homemade thank you cards the scouts made. The Transit Police surprised us. We thought we would be there for a half hour, give our cards and go home. The officers had other ideas. They gave us a tour of their facilities, the kids got to play in a patrol car, and the scouts meet a K-9 officer and his partner, and a SORT officer. The only thing we did not get to do was a tour of the platforms and yard due to the rain. I was floored by what the officers did and could not thank them enough. When our Tigers and Bears have to visit a police station I think we will be back.

We had some excitement last night. My wife was watching TV in our bedroom when suddenly there was a loud pop and the screen went black. Next there was a loud screeching sound which was quickly followed by the smell of something plastic burning. A quick yell to me and I was up the steps, and had the TV unplugged. So now we have to shop for a new TV. I can’t complain too much as this was the oldest TV in the house at about 13 or 14 years old. Of course we just paid off the downstairs air conditioner.

Tonight my son has his first Boy Scout Troop Meeting of the new Scouting Year.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good Morning--

Tom I prefer things to simply go poof and not be making screeches and all kindsa stuff. Boy, that is typical ---just pay one thing off and something else says--"hey! it's my turn!"

I'm off today so I'm going to get some last minute stuff done and then I'll be ready---provisionally speaking--for tomorrows work and the start of evening classes---;)

Have a good day ----:):)

Good morning folks.

Rex, Happy Birthday! You don't look 63, but I remember when you did!:D Just kidding, my boss just turned sixty and had a card with that saying in it. You were the first person I could use it on!:)

I started the messy process of adding 'mortar' to a few of my buildings. They will look like garbage until I can use a few dark washes to tone everything down. I don't care how beat up they look in the end, anything is better than the freshly painted look I had so far. Before you know it, this layout might start to look like something!:)

I have a long, boring day at work today. Then I'm off for three days for my anniversary trip. I can't wait to go to a hobby shop. Err, ah, I can't wait to spend quality time with my wife!;)

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning.

It's 76 and cloudy. The high will be around 80 and there's a chance of rain.

Didn't get much accomplished yesterday with the exception of getting the old heater out of the house and getting the new one in. That becomes a real trick when you can't carry more than 15 pounds and you have to keep off your feet as much as possible, but I pulled it off. I still have to move the pieces of the old heater cabinet out to the roadside so they can be picked up with the trash. It took a good part of the rest of the day to get the room back in order. Today I have to go into town to turn in some library materials then go by the pharmacy to pick up some meds. Later I may have a chance to get some layout work done.

Mornin' all!

What a busy weekend! I had to teach both Saturday and Sunday, so on Sunday afternoon when I was done I just hopped on the bike and rode into the sunset. I rode for 7 hours and covered a ton of southern Indiana's country back roads. Tell ya what.......THAT, is good for the soul!

Oh, and Happy Birthday Rex!

So whats up with all of you today?

Rex: Happy Birthday.

Had a busy weekend. Played some kickball last night, and for some reason I decided to slide into 2nd, and scrapped my knee up pretty bad. Then one the run home, I hurt my long sprained ankle. I sprained it a few months back, and since then it hurts once in awhile.

In better news, I start work today. Sure its minimum wage, and probably only until November, but it is better than nothing.

Afternoon, everyone.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, REX At least I'll always be a year younger than you. :)

Sandy, nice picures and a beautiful part of the country but it sure gets cold there for this early in the year.

Jeffrey, that sounds like a lot of work changing out those heaters. watch that foot and don't overdo it.

Dan, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. I always figured that, no matter what kind of job it was, once I got my foot in the door, I had a chance to move up.

Corey, give the building mortar a good scrubbing with Windex and a paper towel before you do anything else. They'll look a lot better. Have fun at the hobby shop. I'm sure your wife views this as quality time. :D

Barry, you sure do have some strange looking oil wells in your part of the world. I've never seen them on such large concrete platforms.

Tom, cops love to entertain Scouts and show off their stuff. Most of them have kids and, contrary to what a lot of people think, they are pretty soft-hearted under that gruff exterior.

Dan, be careful. It was moves like that that got me a ride to the emergency room.

Terry, those Mantua 0-4-0 Camelbacks were about the worst kits ever made. You practically had to have a machine shop to build one and they still ran like crap no matter how careful you were. If someone offers you five bucks, take it and run. :)

Spent most of the weekend doing church stuff. I had time to do some detailing on the layout, adding some more signs and some safety striping to the street where the tracks come off the grade and into the road. Lester kept missing the fact that the big thing in his rear view mirror was a train and pitched a fit to the mayor after loosing a few bumpers.

It's actually raining here today. Most of it's through the area now but it was a decentstorm compared to what we've gotten. Looks like we should be under a southerly flow all week so we a chance of rain almost every day. All of a sudden, my lawn is covered in mushrooms. I guess they are going to take advantage of the rain and bloom while they can. I have no idea if they are edible but some of them are the size of dinner plates. They sure look tasty but they'd probably kill me.

Since Fred has gone to his watery grave, the tropics are unusually quiet. It looks like the best place for tropical storm formation is still between Florida and the Bahamas and even those chances don't look so good.

Yeah, I hear ya there! The neighbors kids wagon got used to cart the old heater assembly out to the roadside and to bring the new heater from the car to the door. Everything else I did while sitting on the floor.

Good Evening

I got the shopping done, went and spent piles of $$$ on my own texts for the evening classes and then got home to find a "honey dew list"--ohno ohno:eek::eek:. Oh well--it was short and sweet so that got done--found some time to go and finish some more detailing on the one elevator/mill so I's be a happy camper:):)

Jim That was from an area near Petrolia ON--which has some villages with the names--Oil Springs and Oil City attached. There are a load of these things still pumping quietly away--still dragging oil out after close to ~115-125 years:) As for the platforms that one is kind of odd. Mostly they are situated on a mound like affair---although this one was on a bit softer ground:confused:

Dan Good to get anything nowadays, what with all the hooohaw going on:) Good luck in that one:)

Phil 7Hours---just a wonderful period for taking a drive.:) That is what we do every weekend--although we start classes this week. Might make for closer to home trips!:) You take a camera with you?

Have a good evening---LTR

Actually, I did! Nothing you'd all be too excited about though. In a few weeks some folks are coming to the area for some friendship and riding, and since I'm closest to the area they asked if I'd lead a ride, so I was scoping it out and photographing the turns so that if anyone gets lost they can catch up without getting lost. I'll Email out the pics to all the riders this week, and the ride is on the 3rd. It should be a nice ride though. I'll be taking them through a bunch of backroads in the hills of southern Indiana. All the roads are in good shape, but some are rather technical, with lots of twists, turns, and whoop-d-doos. There's a nice stretch in the middle (20 miles or so) where it's just a nice cruise to stretch your legs too. We'll cross a large lake on a bridge, roll through a good section of the Hoosier National Forest, and see some rolling Indiana farmland. All in all, it's about a 2 1/2 hour ride. It starts and ends in Nashville, Indiana, which is a great tourist trap kinda place thats very biker friendly. Should be cool.
