Good morning.

It's 72 and mostly cloudy. The high will be around 80 and there's a chance of rain.

Had the luck of the Irish yesterday. I stopped at a yard sale that was being held at the home of one of our fire fighters. I really didn't expect to find anything of interest but for some reason I looked anyway. I was very surprised to find a Bachmann Niagara 4-8-4 still in the box and looking brand new. I have been wanting to get one of these but the price was always a major stumbling block. Well, as they say, good things comes to he who waits. They only wanted $5 for it. I handed over a portrait of Honest Abe and beat feet out of there lest they change their mind. Talk about getting a steal! I might as well have had a bandits mask on! By afternoon I had most of the paint stripped. There were patches that required additional 'persuasion' in the form of a Dremel cloth polishing wheel. This has left some dusty looking debris on the model which I'll remove when I have time to do so. This morning I have to go see the foot doc for a follow-up visit so he can study the outcome of his efforts to give me some comfort from the rigors of diabetes. I have to admit that getting around is a bit easier now as I don't have that big lump on the bottom of my foot anymore and that big unsightly lump on the side of the foot is gone too. I'm fairly sure he'll have to redo a couple of the stitches though. Even though I'm staying off my feet as much as possible I still have to get around inside my home for a number of things. I don't have a maid or butler to get me my meals and so forth so I have to do that for myself and the tight interior of a 1950 era trailer is not conducive to the use of crutches or a cane.

Good Morning--

We's be getting all kindsa sun and the temperatures in the low 20's---perfect weather for the Western Fair up here this year:D

Got some work at the office this afternoon and then I'll be getting stuff together for our "who knows where we're going" trip tomorrow:eek::rolleyes::)

Chris It is kind of a strange job market out there lately--some places be hiring, others not so much:eek::confused:----and with those opportunities-----who knows--:) Keep up the ol' chin--:)

Jeff That is quite the find anywhere for that kind of price:D:D

Good morning folks

It was 56 F and miserable on the way this morning with heavy rain and wind. High today will be 68 F with heavy and wind all day.

The drive to work this morning was nightmare. Heavy rain and flooding made getting around a chore. On top of that there were high winds so I had to dodge downed branches everywhere. We are under a Flash Flood Watch. There are parts of the area that are under a Tornado Watch. Some areas particularly at the Jersey Shore have had to close schools due to the flooding and/or power outages. It is going to be fun ride home, I can tell.

Last night we attended a Back to School Night at one the local schools for Cub Scouts. We had a quite a few people come up and talk to us. The school we were at has many students from underprivileged neighborhoods. Talking with the parents you could sense that they were desperately looking for good positive things to help keep their sons out of trouble. I hope we can help them and that they join.

Tonight as part of our Council’s observance of September 11th our Cub Scouts will be giving homemade thank you cards to officers from the SEPTA Transit Police Department at the 69th Street Terminal. Council asked us to thank members of the local law enforcement community.

This weekend is up in the air. Depending on what the weather is doing will determine what we do. My wife works both days at the zoo so if we do anything it will be late in the day.

Chris, sorry to hear about the job. Hopefully things will worrk out.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mornin' all!

Man, did I sleep poorly last night! Went to bed at midnight, and woke up at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep. I'm gonna hit the hay early tonight I'll bet!

Well, my son decided yesterday that basketball was just too much for him this year. His body hurts for days after a practice, and he won't back off and save his strength. He wants so bad to keep up with the other boys, but yesterday was white flag day. His muscular dystrophy and scoliosis finally caught up with him. We were about to call the coach and let him know of the decision when we got an Email. It said that there was going to be a slight restructuring of the organization, and they were looking for a "manager" for each of the teams. They wanted someone to help keep stats, help with making sure the balls were regulation, things like that. They asked if the new managers could be team members. My son was all about that! He gets to shoot hoops with his buddies but doesn't have to run suicides and stuff. Also, he has a big part to play in every game. The only down side is theres no more court time during games. So, I took him to practice and he's now the new team manager. When I was talking with the coach later he said he'd noticed my boy struggling to keep up and God had just laid it on his heart to create this position and he was kind of thinking of my son when he was fleshing it all out. As usual, God's timing is right on the money!

So, whats up with you all today?

Good morning everyone.

Chris, sorry to hear about the job loss. My wife has been on Unenjoyment since July 1st. I never thought I'd say this, but she is better off on unemployment right now than taking a job. She was cut from a well paying job, so after taxes she takes home pretty good money. I figured that both of us have payed into the system for at least fifteen years, I don't mind taking a little out! Good luck finding something else to do.

Philip, that's nice that your son has a coach with a heart like that. Not all coaches would concern themselves with something that doesn't involve winning. Well, I guess you could put this situation in the win column!:)

No modeling for me yesterday. That's good though, it gives the painted kits time to dry before assembly.

My wife and I are spending a few days back in La Crosse WI for our anniversary. I haven't been back since we closed our store and lost the house. I know it's only been a year and a half, but it should be weird driving around there. The reason for visiting is we want to go to a few of our favorite restaurants. It's a food pilgrimage, if you will! One great thing too is that I get to visit my old hobby shop. I'm going to have to buy something just for old times sake. Of course, when I lived there, I was flat broke. So he never did get too much of my business. I suppose I'll have to make up for that!:D

Have a good day everyone.

Hey All!

Watched a bit of the ceremonies this morning. Hardly seems like 8 years ago.
I remembering watching all of it taking place in '01 and not believing what I was seeing. I wonder if those listening to the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor felt the same.

Philip... Your son's coach simply reinforces that there are good people out there who are looking out for the kids. Bless his heart!

Jeffrey...sounds like the foot is progressing well. Do stay off it! (as much as possible!)

Good news for me...my nephew and his wife just had son #2 on Wednesday.
Makes him a 09/09/09 baby. He was born at 0906. Works out well because that is his father's flight/squadron #. We weren't sure if David would make it home (NC) in time for the birth as he was just finishing up Altus (flight training) in Oklahoma. Made it with time to spare :) Dave has been assigned to Wichita KS as his first assignment. Woohoo! Not too far from here!

I am headed out to see a HS play this evening. My SIL's neice has been asking me to come see her in a play for a couple of years now and this is her last one. Not even sure what it is  but it will be fun.

Tomorrow I am headed to Wyoming for a church campout. I'm just going up for the day. It's only about a 2 hour drive and the area is supposed to be beautiful. I'll take pictures :D

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Chris...relax and enjoy the weekend! Good things will happen for you!

Sandy

Hey guy's,

the county is still @#$% up beyond mention! I'm still on the road out and as for re-employment back in is not looking good:mad::rolleyes: I'm glad this is happening, I got a couple more calls intrested in my services:o I still need way more but it's a start!:) This weekend we should have three yards, 2 hours worth of work = $75! Not bad for manual labor......... considering that it takes me 8 hours to clear = $110! well got to go and finish cooking dinner, I'm making beef stew:p! Later..........

I went to Radio Shack today to get a package test/jumper leads as I can't find any of the ones I know are around here somewhere and I got a new clip on heat sink for soldering. I'm gonna have to modify the tips so it will hold onto the rail. Also went to Lowe's and picked up a couple of things for my Dremel. A package of felt polishing wheels and a new mandrel for use with said polishing wheels. I'm also looking at getting a new heater. The big one I got last year is acting really flaky. When I turned it on to test it it made a pop and now it absolutely will not turn off via the thermostat. It just gets hotter and hotter and hotter. The only way to stop it is to turn it's power off.

I reckon it's time to liven things up a bit.

P9110131.jpg

Just place all your valuables in the nice looking box in the corner.

Holy cow, my wallet is over in the corner! Don't shoot  BTW, flakey heaters lead to no mobile home but the frame, as I'm sure you know.

Chris, take a deep breath and try not to think about this over the weekend. Do something useful, like finish those trestle bents. The county was flumoxed up before you got there and will be flumoxed up long after you're gone.

Sandy, that's quite a set of number that came to gether for the baby. 3 more minutes and it would have been kind of spooky. :) I guess I that makes you a great aunt now. Have fun in Wyoming. And, yes, I rememebr that day eight years ago very well. I think it's very similar to what people felt after Pearl Harbor. It led to me and another deputy having to guard a dam in the middle of nowhere in case it was attacked armed with an AR-15 and 20 rounds of ammunition. I have no idea what we would have done if any terrorists really showed up. That first night was really weird, just stars and not an airplane flying. It's amazing how many satellites you can see in a dark sky with no airplane navigation lights getting in the way.

Phillip, I was the basketball team manager because I wasn't quite good enough to make the team. If it's still like what I did, you get to be team dictator, basically telling everyone what they can and can't do. If his coach his good, he will be feared by the end of the season. :D

Corey, Happy Anniversary and have a good time exploring old haunts. It will help you see how far you've come.

Jeffrey, nice find on that locomotive. I've got one of those in the UP scheme and it's a sweet runner on DC. I've been too chicken to try and convert it to DC yet.

It was partly cloudy and warm here today with some rain up north but, as usual, nothing down our way. we should get an increase in moisture over the weekend so one can only hope. Tropical Storm is dying a slow death way out in the Pacific, where only the tuna are taking taking note of its demise. Another tropical wave is coming off the coast of Africa but it's disorganized and I doubt it will develop into anything but a tropical depression at most. There are some models that want to develop a tropical system in the Gulf next week but the shear has to relax before that can happen and the shear is still at 25 to 30 knots. If something can get going, it could get interesting fast, since the average Gulf temperature is up to 89, which is like racing gas for a car.

Today it decides to rain:mad::rolleyes: of all days! Got several yards to do! well looks like a rainymowday! I had better pam the bottom of the deck!!!!:D Jim, I wish I can put it behind me but the more I think about it the more I wonder if we(Mario and me) haven't been singled out! I talked to a lawer last night telling him all that has happened. I'm not the smartest man on earth but this layoff smacks of wrong doings.....I just want to make sure what my job is doing is on the LEVEL! I got to cover my bases before the 9th of october. As I see it I'm done working for the Government.

I decided to go after my dreams and work for myself!:D I just got to learn to get along with the boss!:) Damn that would sux if I fire myself!:D LOL's

This one was in the UP paint scheme also. #806. Why have a loco that there's possibly thousands of copies of when I can easily change it.

Yeah, they had him directing the drills the other day. I threatened to get him a whistle and a stopwatch!

Good morning.

It's 71 and cloudy. The high will be around 80 and there's a chance of rain.

Went to see the foot doc yesterday on a post-op follow up visit. He noted that one stitch is ripped but didn't seem too concerned about it as the incision appears to be healing nicely. I have to go back to see him again on Tuesday. I can't tell you how happy I am to have those big lumps of bone off the bottom and side of my foot. I do however have to get used to a new center of balance so I have to use my old rosewood cane to help maintain my balance for a while. I also have to stop the daily walks down to my parent's place to chlorinate the pool for a couple of weeks. It's near the end of the season anyway so no big thing there. Did more work on the Niagara yesterday. I didn't realize just how small the rims on the wheels are until I started painting the edges of the wheels white. The wheels in the trailing truck were the hardest. As far as weather goes it's fantastic if you're a duck. It rained most of the night and is still raining now. I turned my heater on yesterday to make sure it was still in working order and it made a loud pop when I pressed the power button. It didn't take long to realize that something was wrong. It can't be controlled by the thermostat at all and was running away on full power. The only way to stop it was to turn it off. I did some tests on it and have come to the conclusion that the thermostat is faulty and if I try using it as is I could have a charred steel frame sitting where my trailer is. I could have the unit repaired but I'd probably be spending more than a new unit would cost. I've already found one at Lowe's that fits the bill. They want $200 for it. At that price it won't set my wallet on fire, rather merely singe it. Most of the cheap heaters I looked at use a lot of power and only heat up to 200 square feet if you're lucky. The one I found looks like one of the old glass fronted wood burning heaters. It uses 1,300 watts and heats 400 square feet which is a lot closer to the size of my trailer, and that's twice what the cheapies do at 1,500 watts, so that's the one I'll go for. Thank God for Lowe's credit!

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA 71446-6114 9/12/2009

Heat Index: 70°F
Humidity: 100%
Dew Point: 70°F

So Far Today
High: 72°F
Low: 70°F
Rain: 0.52"
Rain Rate: 1.24"/h
Gust: 10mph ENE

Through 9 AM...intermittent light to moderate showers will continue to gradually increase in areal coverage over southeast Texas...central and southern Louisiana. Expect hourly rainfall rates less than five hundredths of an inch...except near a quarter of an inch in the heavier showers. Offshore...scattered to numerous showers and a few thunderstorms will continue across the coastal waters from the Atchafalaya River to High Island out 60 nautical miles. The strongest storms will continue from Grand Chenier to Cameron...and Sabine Pass to High Island out 20 nautical miles. Within the stronger storms...gusty winds of 25 knots will be possible...as well as heavy rainfall reducing visibilities below one nautical mile.

Today High: 82 An 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs in the lower 80s. East winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight Low: 70 A 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows around 70. East winds 5 to 10 mph.

I went with a plug-in radiator style heater for when we lived in our trailer. It had three power settings (600, 1100, and 1500 watts), it's got a thermostat, it's virtually silent (no moving parts) and cheap (cost about $40 at Home Despot). It did very well keeping our 250 sq ft trailer warm down to 20 degrees.
