Bob, if the son insists, you can go over and pack up the trains, and bring them to your house. Leave them in the boxes for a while, then, after a couple of months (or the next time you see the son), maybe you can broach the subject. If the son still wants you to have them, great. If not, they're still packed up, and you can just give him the boxes.

All my advice is worth at least what you pay for it...:)

Bob, Box up the trains and send them to me and I can pretend they got lost in the mail and the problem is solved!:D As I can see it I win win win..........:D And really thats all that matters.................me winning!!!!!

O.K. I guess That Aug. is out, How about letting All hell breaking loose on Sept.10th and 11th! I'm talkin mailman style??????? Now does any body have a problem with those dates........Tough Cookies if ya do, That's my dates and I'm sticking to them!

Why does that sound like "that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!":p:p

As far as those dates---go for it!!:):p

We're having a monsoon again---sheesh:cool:

Look, as I see it, the problem isn't what to do with the stuff. Clearly you have become delusional in your efforts to maintian emplyment and have lost sight of whats really impotant in life........ME! Send them to ME! Forget Chris! Send them HERE! :p

The other thing driving me crazy is I just can not decide between an NCE or Digitrax DCC system. I am learning towards thw NCE but the fact that it will not run a loco without a decoder seems to keep me from pulling the trigger. I can afford a couple of decoders, and probably enough to get me running a few nice trains, but it would be nice to be able to run some that I can put decoders in yet.

Tony
If you have a small layout without multiple power districts and reversing loops, you can us a DPDT switch with a powerpack and an NCE system to run trains. The most important thing is that the 2 power systems never shall be energised to the track at the same time. It will smoke the NCE unit. (Don't ask me how I know this, just trust me.) I did an article for RMC back in September of 08 if you can find a back issue that details it all out.
This is how I power a small switching layout above the workbench that I use for loco testing.

That's also how I have my home layout wired. The two center connectors go to the track, and the two on one side go to the DCC unit. The other two go to the analog unit. "And never the train shall meet". You will let the factory smoke out of one or the other.

Tony, I have traveled the same road. I have the Digitrax Super Empire Builder with the radio upgrade.

I was torn between Lentz, NCE, and Digitrax. I had also looked at the Prodigy, and had experience on it from the club. But, it didn't offer enough cabs. That left the other three. Each was eliminated by actually being able to operate them. In spite of the Digitrax being a little harder to operate, I chose it because of its features. And, honestly, after programming a couple of engines, it's much easier than the first time I used one.

Happy Birthday, Mikey. Just able to sneak best wishes to you under the wire.

Been a long day. Spent the evening at the funeral home giving support to Tom's family. Angela, my better half, left a bit early to get chow ready. I'll say that our relationship is one made in Heaven. She's a helluva cook and I love to eat. Funeral is tomorrow afternoon, so it looks to be another long on in the wings.

Tim, Tom's son asked if I'd consider being administrator of his Dad's will, since he and his sister live such a distance. Something else for me to consider. Maybe I could then justify accepting Tom's trains. That would be my payment for my duties. Makes me feel more at ease accepting the stuff. His sister is in full agreement. They always called me their adopted uncle. lol And Angela actually taught Cindy to cook and sew since their mother checked out with another man when they were quite young.

Didn't get to Kokomo, Rex. Maybe Friday or Saturday. Or even next week, I'm in no big hurry. What's the difference in the "newer" chips? Is there a visual difference?

And just where has Jim been? On special assignment with the CIA? I'm sure he'll have some tale where he was kidnapped by the 'Bama cheerleaders and taken to Mars.

Well, it's time for a snack and then bed.

Bob

Bob: What I was saying is make sure the QSI decoder has the new chip installed and not an old version. The newer QSI chips (little black thingy stuck in decoder :D )are programmable for upgrades by the User and through your computer and interface. Also, if you buy one to replace the old one in the decoders you already have, it has all the new features/CV's/better sounds, RTC, sound of power, etc. The one I bought for the Challenger was $29.95 http://www.tonystrains.com/technews/qsi-uchip-hints.htm Also, I think it a grand idea to be the admin of the estate and accept payment in the trains. That works for your conscience and will certainly help the family ;).

Chris: 10th and 11th sounds good. Go fer it!

Tony: BLI/FDT had a sale going last week that was suppose to last for two weeks. It was ordering a grab bag of miscellaneous parts for $29 each. It turned out to be some very usable parts, whole engines, new shells, frames, etc. As you saw, my Hudson engines both worked fine. Unfortunately, everything was sold out by this past weekend.

And a Good Morning to all of you---:)

The weather here has us as having a nice sunny and less sticky day with the high at 25C and tonights low at 11C. We're going to see the real stick and mug be with us over the weekend with the heat index slotted for 42C!!:eek: ACHH! but we've been wrong in that department before---usually by the time it is here we're seeing highs in the upper 20's and the heat index at 35-37C;)

I'm just about done with the report in terms of cleaning it up. I'll be presenting the thing tomorrow afternoon and then I'll be doing the Friday finishing some unfinished stuff then it'll be off for 4 weeks!! YES!!:p:D:D does this look like I'm counting the days/hours down?;)

I'm getting some railboxes from the LHS to practice some more weathering on. That whole weathering thing is kinda interesting----:):)

Anyhoooooo---you all have a good safe one--:):):D

Good morning folks

It was a muggy, ugly 71 F as I rolled out of the driveway this morning. When you walked outside it felt like someone threw a heavy wet blanket on top of you. High will be 90 F. with the humidity the way that it is I would not be surprised if we got some storms later today.

I didn’t make it to the forums yesterday. We spent the day out in the field looking at several projects with some of county maintenance forces. One job has several washouts along the shoulder and we wanted to see several solutions our field folks have used and how well they have held up.

The State House finally passed a budget. The Governor is supposed to line item veto most of it but leaving enough to pay us. It is still not signed so I still have no idea when the paycheck and back pay is coming.

My son has taken it upon himself to repair a couple of old buildings for the layout. The one I saw he was doing pretty good with it. With everything going on with work my modeling enthusiasm has not been high recently. At least my son is helping to keep some of the spirit alive. I think once I get paid I am going to need a trip to the LHS and get something so we can work on the layout again.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 76 and sunny. The high will be in the high 90's and it will be partly cloudy.

Took my mother shopping yesterday knowing it would turn into a multi-hour affair. She went into Stage to 'just look around'. This translates to 'browse 3/4's of the store and spend several hundred dollars buying things marked 50% off'. Add on her VIP discount and her senior citizen discount and the savings really stack up. So does the amount of freight going out to the car. One good thing about it. We stopped at the Wagon Master Steak House to eat. I had a 1/2 rack of BBQ ribs and an 8 ounce sirloin with a side salad. That's pretty much my 'usual' there. I had intended to go to town to do shopping of my own but by the time I got her home and got her car unloaded it was way too hot for me to go anywhere in mine as it has no AC. Maybe today. I did take some time early this morning to put the walls of the Schultz's Garage kit together.

Good morning y'all.

A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY wish to you Mikey - I was typing one up for you yesterday at ~11:30pm which would've been on time, but somebody sent me a PM and diverted my attention until long after midnight, *dang* this ADHD of mine!:o

My paycheck situation isn't as dire as Tom's, but all the headaches I'm dealing with at work are making it hard to focus on my modeling. The message from Fugate has provided a good shot in the arm to revive the interest, however.

Chris hang in there man, we're praying about your job! My birthday is before the Sept 10 deadline [09/03 to be exact] so no need to change anything there.

Well guys this is the first for me....it has been 27 years since I have ever never worked!
I was layed off yesterday!

Funny thing is I am fine with it. I am now among the 17.1% in this area unemployed and have filed.

LOL I dont even know what to do but look for work again while I am on the 'obama stimulis plan' I feel real guilty too. I can not lay idle. I will be working again do something within 2 weeks. I will take the rest of this week to gather myself and begin the search as I have already.

Meantime I got a little free time LOL....oh bugger! what shall I do now LOL!
