What's this Mexican Meal Month? I'm glad I live where the air is clear and fresh. You guys have heard of the flatulent farmer with a math degree from MIT haven't you......... He worked it out with a slide rule.

Thankfully, I get to break the trend here. We had shish-ka-bobs on the grill. Had one heck of a fire and burnt the handles off of a couple of skewers before the flames subsided. And I lost a beer in the confusion. Used it to douse the inferno. Went back to the fridge, grabbed another and I was good to go.

Just received a bit of bad news. Another modeling chum passed away this morning. His son stopped by to relay the news. That's six in the past nine months. Seems that he had a stroke working in his shop in his garage. And only 55 years old. Man, that's young. He had just taken early retirement in February. We just finished his layout last fall.

Good morning.

It's 77 and partly cloudy. The high today will be around the mid 90's and there's a chance of rain.

Last night I completed my DVD collection of widescreen Indiana Jones movies. I found The Last Crusade at Wal-Mart for $9 and snapped it up. The had all the titles separate this time. Previously they had been together so to get one you had to buy the ones you already had. I hope today to have enough time to work on the DPM Schultz's Garage kit. So far I have the walls trimmed and painted and the door and window pieces are painted. I also have an Atlas GP40 that's been on the shop schedule to have the Atlas body removed and a better detailed body from Bachmann put on.

Good morning folks

It was 71X F and a little less humid this morning. It will be going up to 87 F.

We had tremendous downpours yesterday morning and early afternoon. Somewhere between 2 and 3 inches of rain fell. There was flooding and a bunch of roads closed. Some roads are still closed. In my neighborhood we had some street flooding and some branches down but nothing major.

Saturday we picked-up my son from Boy Scout Summer Camp. He had a great time. He did get a little homesick but recovered. From what I was told he earned his Tenderfoot rank, Leatherworking Merit Badge. He accomplished most of the requirements for 2nd Class and some for 1st Class. He just missed on completing his Swimming Merit Badge. I think he was a couple of requirements short.

Last night my son and I spend some time looking over the layout. The next area we would like to work on is the Power Plant. We discussed a couple of track plans and a few other details for the area.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Bob Our thoughts are with his family at this time--man, that's rough:(

Good Morning--

Got some wonderful sun and a cool breeze going on. Supposed to get to 26C today with the ever popular chance of the t'underin'boomers tonight. It's s'post to get to 20C for a low tonight and then tomorrow we'll have those t'underin'boomers ag'in:(

Holiday Monday today so I'm home just relaxin'. Have a good one:D:D

Bob, it's a shame when that happens. Don't get me wrong, it's a shame when anyone loses their life, but it seems double tough when they just start living it, and it all comes to a close. My prayers for his family and loved ones.

our village police department latley loves to spend extra time at the metra station, writing tickets to those crossing the tracks unsafely. thats 250$ a go. they used to give away "Look, listen, live wheeiling police dept" pens couple times before but i guess they did very nice amount of cash lately so this time they took it a bit further. they got on a train with boxes of this stuff and started walking between the cars, giving it away to everybody.

got a nifty "look, listen, live" blinker with proud "made in china" sticker on the back. i guess the day did not go to waste

i'm sure happy i park on the side of a station that does not require me to cross those tracks as i'm running late quite often,

Good Morning!

First...thank you all for the bday grettings. It was excellent!

Secondly...where the heck is Jim? Just read through a ton of posts and didn't see him.

Rex...We have Netflix. It's great because I can watch (under the 'watch instantly' catagory) old tv like Andy Griffith. I can watch them while I am at work. Actually I mostly listen while I do paperwork. There are tons of watch instantly movies, too. We also order movies and series and watch them at home.

We have had such a mild summer. Our evenings are mid 50's and we have only broken 100 once or twice. This week will be warm at 90. It's amazing for August! Love it!

Chris...any word on your job?

Bob...I am sorry to hear about your friend. 55 is TOO young.

Have a great day!

Sandy

Hello everyone,

Just making my once-a-week post here to keep my membership active. As for yesterday's supper, it was grilled italian sausages, tater salad and garden veggies for me!

I'm really psyched this morning because Joe Fugate sent me an email saying he'll publish a paintshop-type article of mine in Model Railroad Hobbyist. That'll give me a bit of extra $$ for a spare radio throttle and maybe a Tsunami or two...:D In other mrr news, I've been slowly getting my waybills filled in. At first I was trying to have all my off-layout origins/destinations be actual businesses, but I wasted soooo much time googling for the info and getting hundreds of irrelevant hits to sort thru. So I'm afraid I'll have to settle for mostly ficticious company names on the waybills.

Bob - that's tragic indeed about your friend. 55 seems like an awfully early age to be getting a stroke --- did he smoke or have any other health issues? Whenever I hear stuff like that it reminds me why I swallow these 7 pills my doc prescribed every morning. My prayers go out for his family. :(

Tom congrats to your son on his Scout achievements. Glad you had some time to do mrr stuff for a change. Hope you get paid asap.

. . .
Gotta run, I'll talk at ya later...

Good Monday to all! Hope your week goes well.
Thanks to all that answered my question about Netflix. We will give it a go. Regular TV has become so bad and even aggravating. We are on DirectTV and all the programs on the cable type channels are repeats of the repeats of the repeats. The worst: getting blasted out of your chair when a commercial comes on , the volume must be twice as loud. If I remember correctly, the networks tried this trick back in the 70's (or 80s). The idea was to get your attention while getting up during a commercial and doing whatevers. It did nothing but irritate people and the FCC finally banned the practice. The cable channels aren't as regulated and probably have a new set of college boys determining what is good or bad. All it makes me want to do is throw a brick at the TV...Grrrrrr! Today's Rant! Thanks :D.

Bob: That is so sad. Death coming to someone like that is so difficult to accept.

KenL: Hi Ken! Congrats on the article and we will be looking forward to it.;)

Karl: Would you believe......THEY WORK....the Hudsons work great. I ran them all over the layout with a 2-8-2 tender w/sound and the performance was smooth and responsive. Granted, there may be an intermittant or quirky problem that I haven't seen, but WOW! Now to research and order some sound decoders and speakers for the two tenders. Don't know rather to go with QSI or Tsunami for these.

JIMBO!!! WHERE ARE YOU?

Thank you all for the words. He's the second of the group that built the layout for the nursing home to pass on. I hope it's not an omen.

His son stopped by this morning on his way to the funeral home to make arrangements. He drank a cup of coffee, and asked me to be a pallbearer. What an honor.

He also asked if I would take his Dad's trains as no one in the family would want them and he didn't want to sell them off or put them on eBay. I really have enough trains, but, told him sure. But, I also told him that we'd talk about that later. He needed to let the grief process pass it's course before he made a decision like that. And there will be time to make all those decisions later.

Since he lives out of town, he stayed in his Dad's house last night. Said he didn't sleep a wink. Just wandered around the house. I can only imagine how tough that was. I offered him a bedroom here and such. He has enough on his mind, and things to do in this time.

Angela even made the comment about how she is going to miss making melon balls and cookies for "Stink"(a nickname attributed to his foul smelling cigars).

He did have a health problem, one shared by me, diabetes. Probably a contributing factor. I must say, though, tongue-in-cheek, that his cigars were enough to kill anyone within a mile's radius. He often bragged how mosquitoes never bit him. I know why.

Gonna miss him and his funky cigars.

Sure does make one assess one's own mortality.

Rex, you dilemma is not unique as to the sound and decoders. I have both. And lately, the past 3-4 upgrades, have been Tsunami. No reason other than they were on sale. You can't go wrong with either. I love it when there is no wrong answer. I do believe that the Tsunami does have a bit better sound and features, though. But, you can't go wrong either way.

KenL, Congrats!!! I have written a few published articles. All relate to the aquarium hobby. It really pumps the chest up when you see you name in the by-line.

Tom, give the son an "atta boy" for me, will ya?

Well, gotta get busy. Got a yard to mow and trimmin' to do.

Bob

Sandy,

Well the start of another work week. I got till sept. 10th and that's when I will know 100% my fate:(. The good news is we told the Baseball League Prez today that they may end up not having Mario and myself at the park when they start winter ball. That's when the league Prez in formed us that San Antonio Dixie Boys made the State Championships and are moving on:eek: http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/jul/25/pa-dixie-league-team-wins-state-title/sports-pasco/  and http://www.eteamz.com/sanannbaseball/index.cfm? Tim said, over their dead bodys are we to be removed:eek: He's going streight to the top and *itch! I hope it's enough to save Marios and my job. Like I said come Sept. 10th and 11th we should know for a fact!:o

Chris, you can't lose your job on September 10th. Thats the day all the magic happens! Just ask my mom.....I was born that day! (It's OK, that line didn't work on her either!)

Hello

That bit of sun we had turned out to be just that. A bit. Turned out we had DULL DULL DULL for another day---oh, that and a few dribbling showers---yay:(

Got the so called lawn cut and the garage straightened out --ag'in. The weathering of the hoppers continues apace---slowly but surely for this little one. When I hurry I muck things up----:eek:

Catch you inna bit---:):):)

Let me see if I got this right:

All Magic happens on the 10th....Then All Hell breaks loose on the 11th!;):D

Well, I appeased the better half for another week. Mowed the yard, trimmed(and I didn't get into the flower beds this time), fixed two leaking faucets, vacuumed the car and the truck(AND cleaned the windows), and glued up a couple of antique tables she's been harping about for a month.

My friend's funeral will be Wednesday. We had his son and daughter, along with their three children, over for supper tonite. They have enough to do without worrying about meals. Angela, my better half, is putting together a feed for the day of the funeral for all. That's fine with me. That means leftovers. I love leftovers. I'm glad we have three ovens in this house. She's going to need them.

The son and his family will be staying with us, and the daughter will be staying with another of "Stinky's" friends. That way they can be in a home atmosphere an not in some motel, or at his house.

Tim, the son, is insistent that I take his Dad's trains. Still, I think he should take his time in this matter. Tom had some pretty nice stuff, including four OMI PRR H50/60 Centipedes, and other brass locos. I'd be proud to have it and would surely put it to use, but, I think Tim needs to grieve a bit before making such decisions. But, Tim wants to get things done quickly, just like his Dad in that behavior. And the family does live a distance away and the job of the estate will be somewhat of a burden from a distance.

Well, time to go do some weathering. Got some paint and pastel chalk at Wally World today and I'm in the mood.

Bob

Chris...Sweet! You have someone going to bat for you (no pun intended!)
That is excellent. At least he is presenting your name in a very positive light to the decision makers. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
BTW...how is your wife doing? Is she pretty much back to...good, since her surgery?

Yeah Bob, you are right. I have both QSI's and Tsunami's. Normally, I would always pick the Tsunami, but not long ago I ordered a new QSI chip for my Lionel Challenger and WOW, what a difference. They have really improved. Like you said, the Tsunami sounds are still the best, but QSI has made some excellent improvements with the operating CV's and sound features.;)
