Good Evening

Dull was our watchword here...oh...and kinda little dribbly as well. Got all the way up to 20C here...

We just were lazy today...just got back home from going to our fave little diner down the road from us...

And, I'ma runnin' those trains right now....

Good afternoon all,
It's hot again here in the 90's certainly not to my liking.

Not to much else to report.

Say Joe, Speaking about the old Athearn rubber band drive I know the fellow Bill who had quite a going business adapting them over to a gear drive I believe. I'll have ask him when I see him next. That info is probably available on the Web too.

It's been a busy day and I'm tired. Working on that F3 was a challenge. The first time I tried drilling out the portholes in one it didn't turn out so good. Bu my drill bits weren't so good either. the best I could do is press hard while the metal came out in fine flakes. Today the Zamac was spiraling off in long curly-Q's. I had to work to keep the drills speed slow so it wouldn't cut through too fast or possibly vibrate the Zamac enough to damage it. I have seen cases where it shattered.

Well that's enough for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Hot and muggy today. Had to get to September before it really felt like summer. It was a really weird summer here this year. Maybe we'll get a mild winter. One can hope!

Close to finishing up the Santa Fe 4-8-4 project. The motor mount fabrication went well, the new motor is in, the decoder is installed, and everything is wired up. The boiler is back on, and she test ran smooth & quiet. Tomorrow she'll get decals, clear & flat coats, and light lenses & window glazing. This is a 1960's era PFM model, and they had huge boiler weights in those days, so she should be a good puller. We'll see! No leftover parts either! It was a good day

Early september brought a short cool down at least in the evenings. But the high on saturday was a toasty 87*. Right now at 4:00am it's 71*.......fairly summer like still.

I bid on a large lot of peco electro-frog turnouts friday night. Then I read some bad things about them on another forum. That they required many mods to work correctly. Others said "...no.....no..." theirs worked ten years fine with zero mods. So I began having bidders remorse and loathed myself for not educating better before launching in. I was swayed by the negatives......not the positives. Then I was outbid....and all is well. Sweet!

Because the ubiquitous old atlas code 80 manual/powered turnouts with dead plastic frogs continue to serve me well and problem free. And I also have some peco insulfrog units still in boxes which I expect will be great. I used to love fiddling for hours on tricky little details of hobby work. Now it's much better to go straight to the fun parts.

Good Morning! from Tipton IN.

Well so far this morning I've drilled out the portholes on the Burlington F3. This one is plastic so it was a snap. For those who are interested I use a 7/32 bit. Right now I have no plans for the day.

Hey, Good Morning, and Happy Sunday!

The temperature this morning was never lower than 64°, and it's 68° now. That's quite a moderation since yesterday. Prediction calls for a high in the low 80s, and 20% chance of a shower. The coming week looks like a roller coaster with a warm day followed by a cool day...

Yesterday, I started to work on the layout again. Progress is progress. I did take the time to watch the WVA - Oklahoma game on TV last night. I turned down the sound so the commentators scripted nonsense would not irritate me, and it was OK. All these commentators think they are Howard Cosell reincarnated .

Enjoy your choice of activity today.

Joe

Hello y'all, 82*F and somewhat overcast here in central MD. Amazing to think the weekend's almost over. Where did the time go? I'll tell ya....

Saturday is usually the day I set aside to perform my normal yard chores and honey-dues. But yesterday was different - it was SWMBO's turn to host a gathering of the Book Club she belongs to. Trouble is, our house is still cluttered with a huge amount of artifacts left over from her late mother's house. And guess who was elected to lug most of it downstairs... But it didn't end with the book club dinner. When the cleanup project was over I thought I'd retreat to the trainroom and continue setting up for the planned op session. But my 15yr-old daughter said to me, "Well dad, what are we gonna do while all the book club women are visiting?" [Gotta give my daughter credit for one thing: She doesn't expect me to read her mind, she make her desires clearly very known!] I wound up taking her to see a Percy Jackson movie.

So today, after morning Mass, I spent my time doing all my regular weekly maintenance chores, including mowing the lawn. I still need to drive up to CVS and pickup two prescriptions that have been ready for me since Thursday. Maybe after that, I can sneak out to the trainroom for an hour or two - we'll see!

Good morning all,
It's 11:50Am
I sat down at the keyboard to make contact earlier but heard a plane flying around and it seemed to be circling. That's a usual indication of a fire but I didn't see any smoke but by the path of the plane it seemed it could possibly be my long time neighbors place which is the other side of a hill about that is about 125' higher than my place and between us. So I figured I'd better get in my car and take a look. So I drove down my road a bit and their road is only about a 16th of mile away and headed up the long dirt road into their place and met their one Son, Daniel coming out, his Son Travis loves trains btw, in his pick-up who said the fire was down in the little valley that the Polk Ranch Road heads North into, and fortunately it was well away from their home. So then I headed back and met two neighbors who were also headed up the road.

Temeperature wise it not real cool prpobably about 80*, well WW says it's 98.1°F with Humidity or only 8% so it isn't too bad. This evening it will drop down to 64°F which is fairly comfortable sleeping weather.

Of course, it would also be a good time to work on the Layout too.

Say Blk Z,
Well @ 3pm a big black boiling mass approched out of the east
Damn 3 lighting strike freaked me out!!!!!! Real close
So this morning i see all the puddles evaporating back into thr sky so
Looks like its gonna replay gods thunder part2 ughhhhh

Ya, I say that would tend to freak me out T@@! I heard and seen some really halacious Thunder & Lightening in my area. Some of the thunder was so close and loud I thought the roof was going to be blown off. And the Wind, or Mariia, it sure had the trees up top of the hill howling like folk up there were dying, as the song says.

As far as Railroading I've been dragging my feet and the little folks are getting pissed so I'd better get to work building another switch or two so I can get the upper main line and the Whiskey siding laid.

I still hear the planes flying around and it now 12:50Pm so that fire must be rather hard to put out? Jeffrey would probably have a much better Idea than I.

Hope your day is good!

Say Barry & Jeffrey,
What's the deal with the older round nose Alco RS-3 Diesel, are they not too sought after anymore?

Also what's a fair asking price for a Roundhouse kit?

Just curious, your help is appreciated.

Evenin'

The crickets are singing, we had cicadas singing, and all what else...oh...and deep summer is coming back, by Tuesday we are up to 90 feeling like 108 again for a few days...

Got some more things rid of out of 'MY' studio space...so that was a plus....

Anyways...off I go doing a few things...have a good'un!!
