Rex, I'll go ahead and wish you & Caroline a Happy Anniversary in advance, sort of like a Pre-Order.
David, I feel yer pain (about the lost message text) - a similar thing happened to me on Gmail. I was typing up the announcement of my next op session, describing all the latest-and-greatest features, then a dialog appeared: "Internet Explorer has stopped working". I tried to select and copy my typed text into the clipboard - too late. A button in the error dialog was labeled "Click to Recover Webpage" - it did nothing. I had to go restart the browser, go back into gmail and compose the message all over again. Guess I better modify my gmail desktop shortcut to use Chrome instead.
Wow! There is much going on in this forum considering it is Labor Day wekend. Happy Labor Day (What little is left)
Jeff ... It is truely remarkable what you are doing with the old F3 and old passenger cars. Is that going to be a Zephyr or a Chief? ... Or perhaps a Rock Island Rocket?
David (Trussrod). We have been seeing those fires in the news. It must be awful. ..... I like the photo of the turntable being constructed. Also, that is very interesting about the Revell engine house you have owned for many years. I like that story.
Ken in MD .... I hate to admit I just derailed a train on a crossover this evening. A common problem with many of us.
Alan ..... The Brass 4-8-4 project sounds challenging.
Dr. John ..... I bet that was really good food.
Carey ...... Happy Anniversary!
Karl ..... Happy Anniversary!
Bill T..... Good to see you here.
It's been a busy 3 day weekend. .... Yesterday we were in Nashville, TN seeing family memembers. Today, we had friends from Michigan here. This is a couple we knew when we lived in MI. We even traveled with them to Germany one time.
Tomorrow my sister from Michigan will be here. It is remarkable because she and I share the same birthday which is September 3rd. She was born on my 6th birthday. .... I continue to razz my mother about the dirty trick. Nobody else would give their son a sister for his 6th birthday.
Next, speaking of anniversaries..... My Main Squeeze and I celebrate ours this Thursday ..

None of the above. The cars will likely be placed into tour service on the L&A. The F3 body will eventually be put on a Frankenstein chassis that currently has a plastic F7 body on it. Then I'll have an all metal F3 ABBB consist of all Varney/Frankenstein rebuilds. Monster pulling power! For now the metal shell will be put on an Athearn F7 chassis. The frame is virtually identical to the clone frame of my Frankenstein chassis.
Good morning. It's 77° with 95% humidity. The high will be 95° but will feel like 107°.

I should be getting two Athearn F7 chassis today, one a standard blue box and the other a superpower. Then I can set about the job of putting a powered drive in the Varney F3 body. I'll probably do some work on the passenger cars as well.
Dull, foggy and very cool out here...right now we are sitting at 55 going up to 70 later on, hopefully in the sunshine.
Having some surprise visitors today in the form of niece and nephew show up a little later on...because both are going to the same school it should be a bit of fun for them here...both love operating the trains here
Got a few things to catch up on...better get at them...cya!!
Karl - a belated "Happy Anniversary" to you and your wife.
We enjoyed a very nice, quiet Labor Day. Now, I'm trying to wrap my head around Tuesday as it feels like Monday. Oh well. Seems like summer began in September this year in Alabama - another hot, humid day in Prattville.
I own a Dodge Ram van. Needs to be primed each morning before starting, needs to sit for a few hours after being cut off before being restarted, is cold natured.
I got the two Athearn powered F7 drives today and a dummy F7 frame with the old style trucks with metal side frames that were used in the 70's. I used that frame to determine what I'd have to lop off of a modern Athearn frame to make it fit in the Varney F3 shell. I already had a pretty fair idea. So I had to remove the two tabs on the sides that would clip into an Athearn F7 body as the Varney F3 doesn't has the slots for them. I also had to remove the four small ears that keep the Ahearn body level on the frame. On the Varney these hit right on the ladders and therefore they had to go. Next remove the front coupler as the Varney doesn't have an opening for it. After doing those three simple things the frame was an easy press fit into the F3 body. I repeated that process on an Athearn standard blue box F7 chassis and the Varney now has a powered drive in it. I also have an Athearn blue box F7 superpower drive that will be going into a Varney F3 plastic body I'll be getting later this week, probably Friday.
Anyhow, here's the metal F3 body on the Athearn dummy frame. This is much how it'll look on the Frankenstein frame after I get back into my trailer.
Got an underside shot:
And this shot just seems wrong on so many counts!:
Been another busy day. Did more work on the Varney F3. It now has an Athearn blue box powered drive. That's a heavy beast! Made use of my walker to get outside and just sit on the porch for a while. Felt good to get out of the house for a bit. Passenger cars are coming along a bit more. I cleaned some of the rust weathering of some of them. Well that's all for now. See y'all tomorrow.
Good morning. It's 74° with 95% humidity. The high will be 95° but will feel like 103°.

No particular plans for today. I can't do much more model work until the new chuck for my Dremel comes in and at this point it's still in California. But I'm sure something of interest will turn up.
