Good morning, it's overcast and drizzley here in Central MD, low 70's. I see the "SWMBO" question has been answered in great detail.

I began restoring my trains to the layout yesterday. I'm staging them for what is supposed to be the first op-session, but I plan on running each train myself first so I can catch and correct any potential problems. It took several hours to do because each car was randomly packed in any one of several boxes, and I sometimes had to open every box until I found the car I needed. At least now there's only a few more items to go.

Karl, hope the A/C repair folks get out there quick, at least the temps aren't supposed to be as high today as they were on Tuesday...

Good afternoon, It a fairly warm day here, 90.1°F dropping to 63.0°F tonight, Humidity is 32%.

Yesterday I got fairly early for me, around 7:30Am and went to the enclosed back porch to check on the two fairly young female cats I have. I came back in for a bit but thought I heard some odd noises out back. So I went to the back porch as I thought it was coming from there but both cats were also looking outside in wonderment. When I finally checked outside what did I find but 5 Wild Turkeys wandering around the back yard and they were fairly decent sized Hens at a head height of about 30". I figured when they saw me they would take off but just the opposite happened they all started coming toward me as though they were expecting me to feed them?? Then they flew up onto my Shake Roof which I didn't really care for but after about 45 minutes they finally left. They stayed around the place longer than I really liked. I hope they didn't poke any new holes in the old Cedar Shakes? More work for me to inspect and possibly repair.

On the Loco equiped sound issue it is a novelty for sure but even listening to the steam, which I do like, it can get to be to much after awhile. My friend John had a Bachman that is sound equipped and his layout, a 14' x 16' size, is in 40' x 60' metal shop building so the sound is diminished considerably due to all the open area so it's not too bad but in a smaller area like within my garage which is finished off even with an 8' ceiling it would get to be too much I think after awhile.

Now oddly enough, my one MDC Old Time Box Cab Diesel Track Cleaner has it own natural Diesel sound to it as it runs which is rather unique and not too loud but it's just the natural sound of it running which is kind of neat including squeaks too as it runs at low speeds.

But I'm sure within a smaller area, if several loco's with sound were running it could get tiresome not to mention quite noisy.

I have a MRC under table sound system and even that get tiring too.

Say Bill Tidler,

I'm sure glad to see that Flo bought a new 6 pot coffee maker inlue of the cold weather that will soon be upon us. Nothing like a good cup of hot coffee to take the chill off!

I wonder why I couldn't copy the image over to this post?

I'm not sure. I seem to have no issue doing it...

I was looking around on Ebay today and came across a metal Varney F3 dummy A unit for $15 and snapped it up. I have a dummy Athearn frame coming for it. The frame is just to have an Athearn frame to set the shell on and to make sure I cut away the proper places on the shell so it fits on the frame. At some point in the future I'll be putting the shell on one of my Athearn clone F unit Frankenstein chassis. I've also been looking around for more cheap Athearn and Athearn clone F7's to use as future parts sources.

I'll see your old movie ( starring Ursula Andress ) and raise you one old book! Look what I found in the Urban Dictionary.

Swmbo, (pronounced swim-bo)
Acronym for She Who Must Be Obeyed. Term of endearment for one's wife/girlfriend (or resignation to the nature of your relationship).
220px-SHE%2C_A_History_of_Adventure_%281st_Edition_Cover%29%2C_by_H._Rider_Haggard.jpg

The term originates from the H. Rider Haggard novel, "She" (first published 1886). The character Ayesha, known as She-who-must-be-obeyed, the Queen of Death, the White Goddess,of the lost city of Kôr who rules her kingdom with terror, She is the very image of the Femme Fatale. To disobey her or to scorn her is to earn & receive instantaneous death.

Speaking of SWMBO, I got her car fixed this morning. I got the strut assemblies last night. Monroe now makes them as a strut, spring, seats and mounts all pre-assembled. Got the right side replaced while she was blow drying her hair, knocked out the second on after I dropped her off at work. Later picked up the rim & new tire and put it on. She took me out to dinner tonight. :) Car drives straight and smooth as it did when new. Not bad for 201,000 miles!:)

Ken, yes the rain and clouds made today a lot better than yesterday,. BGE home is expected anytime from 7:30 til Noon tomorrow a.m. I hope its sooner than later!!:D

On the Mole front........baffled...physical hunting didn't turn any up, just made open tunnels in the yard. Setting poison peanuts in tunnels only seems to make them dig new tunnels elsewhere......spent 20 bucks for a trap,,,,,,,been in the yard 3 days, no new tunnels after flattening all the rest of them and setting the trap over the newest tunnel.... Hopefully they are having a party over at the neighbors house!
Oh, it might have something to do with recent sightings of a red-tailed Hawk in the neighborhood too. He's been sighted snatching chipmunks, who knows what else.......BTW...where's Kitty??

Jeff - that's quite a find, that metal A-unit...I bet it will pull the paint off your walls when you get a Frankenmotor chassis under it, even without the other B units!

David - LOL, I thought I had problems having a flock of crows hanging out in my yard...!

All this talk against ambient diesel idling sounds has me glad that I haven't spent a fortune putting Tsunamies, Loksounds and whatever sound decoders in my fleet of locos. I know some modelers who insist on having every single one of their engines sound-equipped, glad I don't have to "compete" with them.

Nothing new to report on the layout setup project; a stomach virus has brought me to my knees. I don't have any energy left to go out to that trainroom, hopefully I'll be over this thing tomorrow.

Hello everybody .... Looks like people are doing well for the most part. Glad Jeff's appointment went well.

Carey... I read you had a little eye surgery, and glad it went well. I'm curious if you had the procedure in Birmingham.

I just returned from Birmingham area. My Mom there is now officially 94 years old. Her b'day was Sunday.

I'm home now and have worked on my layout expansion for a short period of time.

Hi Ken, Ya, and these Birds were big enough that if they started pecking at you or at the roof they could sure do some damage. I watched as one by one they flew up on the roof and then as I walked around to see it they had flown off from a higher point over toward the pond across the way I saw a couple of them peaking over the edge to see what I was doing? They must belong to someone around here and got loose. They weren't afraid of me either even when I yelled a bit at them and tried to shoo them away with my arms, they moved a few feet and then were coming back over as though they were expecting me to feed them or something.

I was very glad to see them wander off to the East in the higher grass and away from the house. I sure hope I don't have a problem with them again or I may be giving out free turkeys! LoL I guess I'd call animal control actually.

I'm also glad I didn't invest a lot of money in sound modules for my steam Locos as think it would get rather annoying after a while. it would be intgerest hearing the wheel slip climbing my steep grades which the stand alone room system doesn't give but all in all quiet is fine too, easier to hear the clickety-clack as the metal wheels cross the joint.

Good morning. It's 75° with 94% humidity. The high will be 98° but will feel like 107°.

Got conformation this morning that the Varney loco has been shipped and is on it's way. Estimated delivery is Saturday. No plans for anything in particular today but something may come up.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose reaction to sound is "meh..." But maybe that's just sour grapes since I know that it just adds to the price of everything. But heck, if God had meant for us to have digital sound on our model trains, we wouldn't have been given mouths and vocal cords... ;)

Honestly, one of the most enjoyable model trains sounds (at least to my ears) is the metallic tune of tin-plate Marx cars rattling around on tin-plated rails. No, it ain't 'prototype,' but it sure is fun! Can't wait to put up the O-27 Marx/Lionel Christmas layout in a couple of months! :)

And you can't beat the smell of ozone and smoke fluid, either!

Have you ever tried the cedar scented Supersmoke? It really helps make the house smell piney at Christmas time.

Good morning all, Well it's another rather hot one today. Well at least it feels that way to me, it's 86.1°F dropping down to 66.0°F tonight which is fairly comfortable. The Humidity is 36% but not too noticeable but then again I'm not outside working either.

For some reason it seems I let too many other things get in the way of my working on the Layout and I'm finding that frustrating, but such is life I guess.

In taking some pictures of the Caboose Industries High Level Switch Stands, two of them, I had mounted on the grade at the start of the of the Ridge Crest area I discovered I didn't extend two long ties out to mount them on and that is why they didn't seem correct to me when I looked at them. LoL

I also need to find some very small long wood screws I use to hold them in place as I think I'm out of them.

Also would believe I still haven't tried the new soldiering Iron I got from Micro Mart that is a copy of the Weller I'm pretty sure.

Anyway, hope all of you have a good day.
