Good Morning:

It's a beautiful morning, the sun is bright, and the AC is off! It doesn't get much better than this.

I think I'm going to open up the basement windows, and air the train room out. There aren't many opportunities to do this so I may as well take advantage of the nice dry weather.

Not much on the agenda, but I'll think of something.

Joe

Good morning. It's 75° with 93% humidity. The high will be 95° (feel like 100°).

No plans for today except to relax and take it easy.

Good afternoon from the sunny south! Yard is cut and other Saturday chores are done. Enjoying some quiet time with the wife watching TV and listening to the dogs snore. Homemade soup for supper and we head to the big city of Pinson, AL to see our son-in-law be ordained as a deacon tomorrow evening. Hard to believe that summer is winding down and September is just a week away. Won't be long before Christmas is upon us.

Good afternoon all,
Say Francine, I'll have the hamburger special and a glass of never ending Cola, thanks. Is Flo off again?

It's a fairly decent day here at about 82* I think, lets see what Wunderground Weather says? 91.5°F with a low tonight of 63°F, the humidity is 24%.

I was just talking to my friend John in Raymond who told me the Rim Fire, up just North of Yosemite National Park, that is burning as I write has burned 125,000 acres and is threatening Yosemite National park at present. That's one heck of a blaze alright!!

Well, after I do a bit more checking on the computer I'm going to work build a switch or two to extend the upper main line on my layout.

See you all later

Well it's been a mostly uneventful day. Had a cheeseburger and potato salad for dinner today, got most of my prescriptions filled and a bit of laundry was done. That's about it and now it;s time for me to 23-skadoo out of here. See y'all tomorrow.

Well Thursday was the day of my surgery on my last cataract! Yay! The chill pill the surgeon gave me was one for the books, 10mg Valium 1 hour prior to surgery taken with a sip of water. By the time I got to the surgery center, I was really "laid back". The entire staff seemed to come in and take a look at the madman from 2 weeks prior turned into a cuddly little bear. (Yea Right!)

Actually I was very mellow and as a result they didn't need as much sedation during the procedure. Like last time, I remember everything that occurred. From the placing of the eye speculum to hold the eye open, to the difference from them removing the cataract, and placing the lens. Wasn't bad at all. If I had a third eye, I'd let them do it as well.

I had to see the optometrist the next morning. They checked the pressures in both eyes, inspected all the incisions, and even check the vision, which they say is even better than my rt eye.

Of course, after that Valium, I slept from the time I got home at 0900 Thursday, until Friday morning about an hour before the eye doc appointment. Then I came home and slept some more. Talk about a drug hangover!

Well I have come to the end of my tale, and its going to be a while before I can do anything. I can't lift anything over 10 lbs, since I have now basically 2 open globes, and I can't bend over at the waist. Anything that puts pressure on the globes is to be avoided like the plague. Don't want to bend over and have two implants pop out like in a cartoon. So for the next several weeks, about all I get to do is type on the forums, look for more porn,(steam loco pix), and play solitaire!

Carey,

Glad your eye surgery went well! I have followed your tale with interest since I am sure I will have to have the same procedures done someday down the road. Hope your recovery is swift and painless!

Glenn

Carey - Glad your eye surgery was successful. [The ad 'bots must be reading these recent posts, I'm seeing ads for lasick all over the bottom of this page LOL!] My wife had catarac surgery 2 years ago, her nearsightedness was getting so bad she could barely even function. Needed glasses constantly - apparently there weren't any contact prescriptions strong enough to normalize her vision [or maybe they were too expen$ive?] Anyhoo, her vision was perfect for a few days after each eye's procedure; then the lenses "relaxed" and, even though her vision is still pretty dang good, it's not like it was those first couple of days. Now she needs cheap reading glasses to see things up close, but other than that she sees better than she ever did before.

. . .
I'm a tad exhausted, spent the day helping SWMBO fix up her [late] mother's house. It's 50 years old and definitely showing its age. She hired a contractor friend of hers to help with the project at a greatly discounted rate, he's a lone wolf but is a very skilled painter and plumber. He doesn't have a crew working for him, so us family folks have to do most of the unskilled grunt work. We're hoping the house will sell, it's in a great neighborhood [surrounded by a golf course] but there's a lot of new houses being built nearby.

The only train-related thing I did today was a trip to Home Depot to buy a pedestal fan to cross-ventilate my trainroom.

Just got back from a run session in York PA. Awesome layout that took up several rooms in the basement, plus a room under the garage! Lots of trains that ran VERY well. ;) One thing I didn't expect....its all brass track! No hesitation or dirty spots, without seeing it, I wouldn't
have believed it!
Stopped at a diner on the way up for lunch,,,had to have the pork schnitzel. OMG it was gooooood!! Afterward we stopped at another diner for dinner....1/3 lb sirloin burger w fries...I'm still stuffed, hours later!

Ken.......next time you gotta come with us!!:)

Thanx to both of you for the well wishes Glenn and Ken. Glenn, I'm still trying to get the wife to get free for a weekend to head down your way, to see my brother and his kids and also to get over to Robertsdale to check on Tom. Hope to be calling ya soon!

Start the morning off well with a Fairbanks Morse C-liner A+B set in PRR. This has to be one of the all time best paint schemes of the pensy. I call it the black widow due to the red logo.

Carey, my wife had the cataract replacement surgery several years ago. She was very happy with the results, and even was able to not wear glasses for three years afterward.

Good morning, it's partly cloudy and 60 here. That's right, 60 degrees at the end of August. That's about 12 degrees cooler than it normally is. Some of the trees are already starting to change, so it is going to be an early fall. The longer term forecast is for it to be back up to the mid and upper 90's around Labor Day, I hope that will not include too much humidity, though it probably will Long-range shows 96, followed by rain and 70 then next day. Anyway, enough about the weather...
They are having Railroad Days in Spencer, North Carolina, this weekend. Among the activities are several model railroad things, such as a swap meet and train show. The swap meet has a nice variety of "stuff", from brand new to things I would have played with when I was a kid. And when they have a train show in Spencer, it is a Train Show, with 1:1 trains on display. There were several operating layouts from N scale to G, train rides, turntable rides, model railroading clinics, and, of course, the people soliciting donations for the restoration of N&W 611. It was a fun time, and I came away with a built-up Walthers logging/lumber setup. It was not only built, but weathered very well, and had all the additional buildings that make it a complex. I also picked up one of the Spectrum 0-6-0 saddle tank switch engines, new in the box, for $35. It says "DCC Ready" on the box. "DCC Ready" my a--, err, foot. I had to cut off the 8 pin plug on the z scale decoder, and hard wire it. Then, there wasn't enough room for the decoder inside the shell, and I ended up having to remove the circuit board and hard wire the decoder with as short wiring as I could in order to get it to fit. Then, it still didn't fit, so I had to remove the wires and light bulbs (! and here I thought Athearn was the only one still using bulbs) in order to have enough room for the decoder. Initially, it ran a little rough, kind of Bachmann-y, and I ended up removing all the resistors and RF chokes, and filters and whatever else was connected to the motor. Now it runs very well. I'd give it an 8.5 on the running scale. I will probably use it for the new lumber complex.

Good morning, America, from sunny, warm central Illinois! We're having some of the warmest and driest weather we've had all summer. And we're going to close our pool for the winter before I head upstate this afternoon for work. The weather man says we could have highs up to 98 by the middle of the week. That ought to be real nice with the high temps as the boiler tubes we're welding have to be kept at a minimum of 400 degrees and a maximum of 600 degrees the entire time that we're welding on them. All this is done under a tent with the tubes wrapped with ceramic heaters with openings at the weld joints. Lots of ways to get burnt!

Carey, glad that your cataract surgeries went well and Jeffrey, it's nice to hear you are on the mend.

Good morning. It's 73° with 96% humidity. The high will be 92° and will feel like 97°.

Got some serious arm exercise today. Went to a barbeque next door at my nieces place. The roughest part was negotiating the steps between her place and my fathers place. I managed it. Those steps are much lower than the steps up to my trailer. No way am I ready for those yet! I'd rather climb El Capitan. Again! It was good to get out even though it was just over to the west side of the house. As for my upcoming doc appointment in Oakdale (Tuesday), my father is gonna see if he can get somebody to take his shift at work that day so he can take me there and back. He isn't happy with Community Transport. It's slow and the wait times for a van to show up can be two hours or more. Add to that I'm still having a hard time getting around. Hopefully I'll be getting the stitches and staples out this time.

That's all for today. See y'all tomorrow.
