David - a self-applied Heimlich? ........ As of now I'm just trying to find a less-tedious method to get my track clean, the CMX CleanMachine I bought has way too much drag; even with 4 geeps I can barely push the thing!
Ken, as you know I have had my CMX track cleaning car every since they came out. I can pull it with only one SD-24. I go along with others and recommend finding a bind or maybe wheel gauge. Don't know about the pad having too much tension, but darn good idea to check. Also, I use a cotton suede like (don't know the material name) material for my pad cover. Don't know if you still have what came with it or not, but if you replaced with new it may be too thickish....just guessing at this point. BTW: the weight of the brass pad is almost all you need to get the track cleaned.

Have you had any issues with your GP9s? I have a pair of them that share a problem with the truck opposite the cab end. If there is any kind of dip at all in the track work, that truck will pivot the leading axle off the rails when running long hood first. Cab end first, it doesn't do it. And it only pivots to the right when it does it.
Terry - sorry I missed your reply earlier! My geeps have been pretty good so far, the only problems come when I neglect to speed-match them and try to run them in consist. The faster ones push the slower ones off the track.

Rex - I need to leave for work pretty soon here, but when I get back I'll have another look at that bottom plate on the CMX. I suspect that's the problem, I never did anything with it. I used the courderoy fabric that came with it, haven't yet tried anything different.

Have a great day y'all

Good Morning

Doing this post from the office as we had a power outage in our home neighbourhood..someone ran into a pole.

Going to be a high of 85 feeling like 102 later on....with those ol' t'underin'boomers again....

ended up having chat as to who was to get what done first..and what things were to be done, first....heeheehee...

So now, having done that...her floor will be done....first...

Good morning. It's 79°with 80% humidity. The high will be 92° and will feel like 104°.

Nothing planned for toady. Maybe something will present itself.

1969 Olds 4-4-2, now that was a car...455 engine, 4 on the floor, Hurst shifter, Rochester Quad. Mine was Red with black vinyl roof and black accent striping, wide oval tires had a red accent stripe. New, it cost around $3600. Wish I still had it.....I own 3 on the layout, a '68, a69 and a 70. Also have a slightly larger Hot Wheels version.

Jeffrey, I'm sure you find something creative to do.

We just returned from the wholesale warehouse. Picked a good time, as it wasn't busy. It's noticeably warmer and more humid today. Traffic wasn't bad, except where the GS Parkway Southbound exits on to 183 (Exit 98). The ramp was bumper to bumper with day trippers for the shore. I plan on spending this afternoon in the train room reorganizing.

Expecting UPS to make a drop off this afternoon, a couple of Atlas Cylindrical hoppers, for the plastics and fertilizer industries on my layout.

Joe

We got into the 90's in Northern Minnesota yesterday, but a cool low is moving later this afternoon and the dew points are going to drop into the upper 40's. I guess by weekend, we will get warm again. Nothing like some of you southerners are experiencing, though. If it gets too bad, we can drive 20 miles to Lake Superior and really cool off.

Anyway, Jeff, it sounds like you are mending up. Glad to hear that.

Yeah, I had one of those leave me and my 1966 GTO in a cloud of dust. I only had the 389 engine, 4 brl, but that was downright embarrassing. LOL:)

Made a change on one of the Mitac drives today. I want to be able to write to permanently write protected disks without having to clip a write notch in them. So I put in a switch that allows me to switch between tab-enabled write protect and forced write enable. Right now it's in tab enabled mode.

Good afternoon.

Ken.... Perhaps there is more than one model of CMX machine, but mine has 2 screws with springs holding the part that holds the pad. .... Speaking of MI, we lived in S E MI prior to KY where we are now.
Jeff..... I'm happy you are able to do so much.

Bill ... Thanks for the coffee.

I'll be in Alabama this weekend helping my mom celebrate her 94th birthday.

Happy model railroading.

Hello and greetings to all yee......train people..........People! :D Wow! Holy Moe!

I am really excited today.........because..........since............I might make a totally risky decision and get a brand new Canadian Pacific AC4400CW locomotive. NICE!!!!!:rolleyes: (I was leaning towards a kato CSX Gevo.......but I'll keep that for later). CP red looks amazing.....especially when after about 200,000 miles it gets some serious grime on it and burned paint below the exhaust stack. One of my new (used) turnouts could be fashioned into a spur up to the northlands.

Not much went on today. Other than working on the Mitac I watched some TV, played some pinball, had fried chicken for dinner and a slice of watermelon for dessert. I had to redress my leg as the bandage home health put on it last time came loose. Nothing to it. Played a game of Starfleet1 and got my head handed to me, again. I like the sound of the keys on the old IIe. Today's keyboards don't have that metallic chatter the old ones had and they don't last anywhere near as long. I can wear out one of the run-of-the-mill common $15-$40 keyboards in less than six months. Played another old game today. Doom II. Who remembers that one?

Well it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

This just in...

A solution has been found for my CMX! I undid these two screws on the bottom [thanx for the tip GaRRy!], removed the springs, reattached the plate and WOW - what a difference, two li'l geeps were able to push it with no hesitation or wheel-spinning! I let it do one circuit around the layout, then I added an F7B unit between the geeps and coupled the two Centerlines between the CMX and the loco consist. Still ran like a champ! Apparently those springs were actually supporting some of the Clean Machine's weight, so having them in was like trying to push a solid chunk of brass with no wheels on it, only a strip of fabric.

That's the good news. Otherwise: Work was stressful today. I have a g'zillion little projects coming due on Friday - but I'm taking Thursday off in order to drive my 17yr-old daughter [and all her stuff] to college. So, I ended up working until 8pm to tie up all the loose ends and I'm totally exhausted!

Mike - One nice thing about brightly-colored diesels, weathering really stands out beautifully on them! That's one thing I'll miss about my CSX gray & blue models.

Nothing much scheduled for today. There should be a home health nurse coming sometime around noon. Funny how they always expect to find a low blood sugar reading right after lunch. As for any projects we'll see what presents itself.

Addressing the honey-do list today: taking the Honda in for an oil change, cut the back forty, edge the driveway. Looks like a nice day for it, though on the warm side. Happy Thursday, everyone! :)

Good Morning:

72 and overcast this morning. Going up to 86 with T-showers predicted. Some weather dude on TV yesterday was lamenting that August has not generated the anticipated Tropical Storms. Really.........

Not much going on right now. I will probably do something with the layout later. Right now, I'm just going to have another cup of coffee.

Joe
