Mike (railfan), MTS is the best in the online business. I have had parcels from several other of the major players and their service and in particular their care in packaging stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Maybe for the online purchase, but the in-store service sucks, Out of the 5 closest hobby shops to me, they are one I will no longer go to. When they were in downtown Baltimore, things were different. Now that they moved to the county (closer to me), they have gotten less friendly, and more "off the shelf". The service side is dead.
I am not alone either. Several friends feel the same way.

Hi all, we have 68*F with a light misty rain here in central MD - gonna be raining on and off thru the day. Perfect train weather, wish I didn't have to work.

I've been up to my eyeballs using - and learning - this JMRI Operations software. Great stuff, and the price is right. It has a long learning curve though, in that I keep discovering new ways to make it do everything I think I want, so I can create manifests and switchlists for my first 3 op sessions. I find myself staying up way past my bedtime once I get started on it.

Have a good'un!

[EDIT] Karl, you musta just posted ahead of me, didn't see you.

Good morning. It's 77° with 88% humidity. It already feels like 86°. The high will be 96° and it will likely feel like 109°.

Got bill paying and grocery shopping to do today. Most of the bills will be paid online but there's always those that refuse to leave the stone age and join the rest of us in the 21st century. No other plans for today but I'm sure something will come up.

I have had similar experiences with the three hobby shops that are within 200 miles of me. When we crawl out of our caves to do some serious shopping we like to talk trains. This is meant to be constructive observation.

58 degrees going for 75, mostly sunny, another beautiful day in northern Minnesota!

Good Morning

We had a flashkaboomer come through late last night that stayed with us for a few hours dumping a lot of rain on our'n heads here...our raingauge shows all of 3" here...:o

Getting some more paperwork done for work today...finish the lot tomorrow and then off for a week....

Have a good one!!

CJ- my wife had both eyes done in January, two weeks apart.
In at 5 AM, home by noon.
Biggest hold up was for the surgeon to finish and be able to do a quick exam in her office before releasing her.
Be sure to keep the eye guard in place for a couple days to prevent rubbing the eye unconciously.
You should notice improved vision in a few days.

Well, since everyone's talking about their dull day, I've had a really dull one. I been watching paint dry, literally! Since I told yall about daughter's situation, I've been able to eliminate the mold problem with a real strong mold/mildew/fungicide. Then 3 coats of special formula Killz, that also has that stuff in it. The walls were just as white as they could be, and I just got through with the second coat of color on the walls. As soon as it dries, I get to do the baseboards. What fun!

I also have my first cataract surgery this next week. I'm actually looking forward to it. My near vision will be terrible without glasses, but it will be better than it is now. I've been having a hard time seeing things up close, like coupler springs lately, and the Dr said that while my close vision will never be 20/20 again, it will be better.

David, I ask the surgeon about waiting more than 2 weeks for the other eye, for an adjustment period, and she said there was no need, as if I haven't adjusted by the time of the next one, I would one in a billion who didn't adjust. They would run an eye exam afterwards and see if the lens has moved as that would be the only reason for the vision to be bad. The correction for that is a slight adjustment under IV sedation, and would take about 2 minutes. I'm OK with that.

Carey - hope your cataract surgery goes well. We're also getting into the painting mode this week, tackling two bedrooms. The wife and I may work in a trip to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera as an anniversary trip on Saturday, weather permitting. Surprisingly, it was her idea! :)

Good Morning Guys, [I guess no more Ladies frequent Flo's, thank God for here and Francine.]

It's fairly cool and comfortable here at Coarsgold, feels like about 80* with a slight breeze blowing which is real nice. Lets see what Wunderground Weather says? They say 91.2 °F but no breeze which is wrong.

Now this is weird, my first post of the day and I getting the error message I need to wait at least 22 seconds between posts ?? ??

Not much happening today. My father and I went to Wal-Mart this morning to get our respective grocery shopping done and I had him stop at the place that's still in the stone age so I could make my payment there. After getting the groceries home and put away I drove my van into town and gassed it up. $50 for 14.289 gallons of gas. That's a little over half a tank. I made sure to leave the engine running while I was filling up as there was a good chance it wouldn't start again until the engine cooled down. Came across a couple of ancient Mitac AD-1 disk drives in working order and snapped them up for less than $70. That used up my 'fun fund' so no more online shopping until it's replenished. These drives are Apple Disk II clones and weren't produced in what you'd call great numbers so they're somewhat rare, even rarer to be working unlike the ubiquitous Apple Disk II drives that can be found seemingly everywhere.

In previous times I would have considered that 2nd to being "put on a promise", now it would be the other way round, but at least the shaking in anticipation would be equal.

Good Evening

We actually had sun today...a whole days worth!!

And, I finished all the ding dang file work that needed done..a few reports went into some HR files too...

We also ran some trains around here...just to bug the little Spring....:)

Anyhow, have a good night!!

**whew!** I finally finished generating 3 op sessions' worth of manifests and switch lists [using the JMRI Operations software], each of them noticeably different from each other. Now maybe I can start spending more time here. Oh but wait a minute...I still need to clear the clutter off my layout, vacuum up all the beetle carcasses, recover all the tools my son has borrowed,...

On a whim, I ordered a Genesis Conrail GP15-1 with sound, plus three Canadian grain hoppers. All 1980s era and newer stuff. Since my modeling interest is mainly late 1960's PRR, and 70s CNJ and RDG, (for variety), it's out of my league. However, back in the day, I worked assignment WJLI26 then WPLI26 out of Linden Yard, in Linden, NJ. Atlas did the exact Extended View cabin car back in the early '90s, and I have it, so now my LI26 is complete. All I need is a little plastic conductor Jarvis, Flagman Mika, and a little me on the engine:cool:. It has a Tsunami Decoder and sound, set at a nice volume that doesn't get annoying on a small basement layout, and runs well. I had to borrow some of the more modern cars from my sons storage boxes to make it look right. But WTH, it looks good. Now, I'm sorry I sold/gave away all that modern stuff.

When Genesis does a CR GP38 in the future, I will have my engine for the WJSA31/WPSA31 which ran out of Browns Yard in Old Bridge, NJ, and worked the Freehold and Hightstown Secondary(s). I have a CR cabin for that one also, although we mostly used a rear end marker device, instead of a Cabin.

Next step, a P42 and three Amfleets, to cover my Keystone Train between Phila and Harrisburg. Should be doable if I can get past the price of the upcoming KATO P42, and Walthers Amfleets.

Life is good (sometimes).

Have a good evening.

Joe
