The engine was a night mare to convert to DCC, and I would never do it again with that kind of locomotive. It's the old Bachmann 2-motor. It actually runs okay now which is a miracle.

Garry, I gotta agree with you on that! I had 2 that were converted to DCC. Crap, it was harder than Chinese algebra! They ran ok, but when I heard B-mann was going to do another run with a different mechanism, I sold them both.. Got me new ones to replace them that were converted to DCC in minutes, not hours!

Ken, Did ya order that Keyspan yet?? ;) Huh? Huh ?

Jeffrey, Your sleep method is almost poly-tickle.

Finished the 3 B&O geeps yesterday for one customer, part arrived for the SD26s Saturday, so I'll attempt to finish them today and tomorrow. LHS called Saturday, I have 2 more projects waiting there. He's got too much repair work, so he's farming out some paint and remotor work to me.

Yes, Yes! In fact I ordered it as soon as I got home from your house, long before I got around to reading your post on Sunday morning. So I wound up ordering it from Tiger Direct. Hopefully I didn't make a bad choice. I've heard other people say they've ordered stuff from them, can't remember who or where though...

Karl ... If you installed DCC in one, I wonder why you did another one. ... Are you a gluten for punishment?

Barry ... I hope you doctor visits go well.

Jeffrey, I had a few teachers growing up - maybe that's one of them.
I take my grand kids to school and I can't believe all the hot looking teachers now.

Hey Gang!

Why is it, when I plan to get something specifically done today, did it not happen. In a word? HER.

5:30 a.m. Her wakes up with headache (migraine) Takes Imetrax, turn off alarm, goes back to sleep.:(
7:30, I wake up because of a cat on my chest, HER moans something about HER calling out of work and for me to be quiet. I go downstairs out of the way to check email, ebay and such (Quiet time stuff, no Dremels)
10:30 HER wakes up, migraine gone, want me to take HER shopping.
12:00 Showers done, hair fixed, we leave the house. Several stops, I bide my time patiently in stores, plotting my revenge.
2:45 Last stop, a local tractor dealership. After a 30 minute Q&A session with the salesman, the final test. "Honey" I says " Better have a seat on this tractor here, make sure you feel comfortable on it!":p:cool:
3:30 p.m. HER suddenly realizes as HER breaks out the checkbook that Her can cut the grass all by HERself now!:p:cool::rolleyes:;) Starting with this weekend, as it will be delivered Wednesday!

So what if I didn't get all the projects done today that I wanted too. Sometimes it pays to be nice to HER!!!!

Karl: You know what will happen to the other bay right? She'll use it for storage.....

Actually Barry, we've had that discussion already. The other bay will soon be home to my 25 year old pickup truck, languishing in the side yard next to the garage. Time to fix the trans, repair a few engine leaks, and get the bodywork done. Daddy still needs his outside toys! ;)

I can hear the response to that already. 'You get that truck fixed and out of there. I have perfectly good stuff that I need to clutter it up with'.

A very wet day yesterday. My father ended up having to reschedule his appointment as he found out there was no way he would be finished before noon. So we got some things done here during the morning then set off for Oakdale at 11am. It was a real workout getting out to the garage, even worse once out there because the ground is rough. I had to be extremely careful. My father wasn't up to driving so he rested in the back seat while my step mother did the driving. It was darkness, heavy clouds and rain the whole way. We finally got there still a half hour early. The doc was very pleased with the excellent healing on the knee and said that it's ready to have a shaper applied to it and in fact was surprised that the doctor in charge of that hadn't contacted me about it. A prescription had been issued to them but they have no record of it. So now everybody is running around trying to find this prescription but nobody knows where it is. They said they'd call me when they find out but so far there's been no word. Things went well on the way back home. However in the garage area I hit a patch of ground that had a hole big enough for one of the walkers legs to slide off into and I went halfway to my knees cussing a blue streak all the way. I did manage to keep from falling but just barely. The rest of the trip to the house was made without incident. By that time I was worn out. If you think two hundred feet with a walker and one leg to stand on is easy you need to try it sometime. Great upper body workout! Get the coordination right and you can actually outrun someone whose moving at a normal walking pace. By that time it was late afternoon and the last thing I felt like doing was getting online. So I spent the rest of the day resting and watching a couple of shows. Watched Extreme Trains 'Freight Train' then watched Robocop. Got something to eat then watched a couple of CSI shows then called it a night.

Nothing planned for today. I think I pulled a muscle in my left shoulder yesterday as it's really letting me know about it this morning.

Got word a little while ago that the missing prescription was found late yesterday and faxed to the clinic in DeRidder. I called them and they have it. An appointment has been set for 9am Thursday.

Love the little humanizing details for the freighthouse scene there! Nicely done. (And I like your motto, too... reminds me of a similar one, from Walt Kelly's Pogo: "Don't take life too seriously. It ain't nohow permanent.")

I for one do not agree with Jeff's motto or the Pogo one either. I take life very seriously, and I am certain that if you play your cards right you actually can get out of here alive and that eternal existence is a reality for those who choose the righteous path.

And as my step mother, a very righteous woman points out 'what has to happen for you to get to that eternal existence at the end of your life?'. Exactly. This life has to end.

Paradoxically, and with the greatest respect, I don't think we're so far apart, really. There's more than one way to "not take life seriously" -- and no doubt, some see that as license for selfishness and self-destruction. I've met some of those folks, too.

But for me, the knowledge of how brief and fleeting is our life in this world actually fosters the courage and commitment to do the right thing, here and now. Because I might not get that chance again.

And I certainly will never get that chance if I take my life so seriously that I protect it at the cost of my own humanity, or at the cost of my brothers and sisters, be they friends or strangers.

Now, of course I cannot and would not try to speak for you. But I can't help but suspect that, your way of taking life "very seriously" and my way of taking it "not seriously" are really not so different -- and both point to the same basic intuition: to do what is right, to seek forgiveness when we fail, and to know that, in the end, the Universe is not in our own hands.

All best to you this day and every day....
