The rubber roof will last 10 years, if you clean and treat (coat) it every 3 years or so. The biggest issue is all the holes in the rubber roof that will let water in. Roof and plumbing vents, clearance lights, antennas, the aluminum channels on both ends and both sides of the roof, anywhere there is a screw through the rubber or fiberglass. You should reseal all those spots every 3 years to help keep the leaks down.
Also, unless your trailer has corrugated aluminum siding and front and rear panels, you have bonded fiberglass. The smooth white side panels are fiberglass backed by 1/8" plywood, with Styrofoam sandwiched between that and the interior 1/8" plywood panels.
Terry: thanks for the info. All sides are corrugated aluminum and it has the shiny "diamond plate" looking aluminum on lower front . I will certainly re-caulk every 3 years and I already treat the rubber roof every 9-12 months.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good morning. It's 38 and sunny. The high will be 64 and mostly sunny.

Today is December 1st and as such is the beginning of a new month. It's also bill paying day. I've already paid quite a few online. The others must be paid in person as the places the money is owed to haven't come out of the stone age yet. I also have to take one of parents cars to a garage in town. After yesterdays weathering marathon there's nothing else scheduled for today.

Good morning folks

It was 36 F as I headed off into the sunrise this morning. Our high will be 52 F.

My daughter went to the hand specialist yesterday for her finger. She no longer has to wear the splint 24/7. For the next four weeks she has to wear the splint when she is playing volleyball. However, she has no restrictions on what she can do. She can now finally hit and block. She cannot wait to start practice next week.

We had our November pack meeting last night for scouts. Not much else happened last night.

Tonight we take the kids to get haircuts. Nothing else on the schedule.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good afternoon all,
It's about 48* outside with some fairly strong gusts of wind but the sky is blue so it looks as though it should be a a nice day after all.

Say Patrick

I'm unsure how the motor in your Mantua is mounted and adjusted or if it like my much older Mantua from about 50+ years ago?

On mine the motor sits at an angle on the frame with elongted adjustment slots the motor mounting screws extend through to screw into the bottom of the motor yoke frame. So in mounting it this way it allowed forward and backward movement of the motor which allowed for adjustment of the worm gear and how deep it was seated into the main axel drive gear?

It yours is still like that, be sure that when the mounting screws are tightened down the worm gear doesn't bottom out on the main drive gear as that will sure prevent free running.

It also could be a dirty commutator, the part the motor brushes ride on, assuming it has an open frame motor. Between each copper plate there is supposed to be a clean grove so as the motor spins it doesn't short out between the plates.

Also the motor needs to be making good oil free electrical contact with the frame. Also mine has a side wiper that has two spring loaded arms that ride on the tread of each wheel it is mounted between and the wipers or wheel treads may be dirty?

Also the top section of the wiper, a long arm needs to be making good contact with a motor brush and may need to be bent inward a bit so it presses in a bit harder. That wiper assembly should also be insulated from the frame and the screw going through it should also be insulated so as not to touch anu part of the wiper plate as that would cause a short too.

Hth.

That's a nice looking 0-6-0. Seen one of these lately? It's a Pemco 2-6-0. The loco just rolls. The motor and drive are in the tender. The drive is similar to that used in Tyco's tender drive but the gears are heavier and it has a better motor.

Off hand, I don't recall any adjustment to the depth of the worm gear. Motor is kind of simple and needs the tender as the return pickup. I'll take some pictures. I have only seen 1 other on ebay in the past 6 months.

Actually found another: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mantua-HO-Great-Northern-0-6-0-407-/380388317641

Great Northern 0-6-0 #407

I paid $75 for it 16 years ago....all metal.

Thanks for the link Karl!!! The Mantua Big 6 is still listed in the 1989 catalog and they have the spec sheets listed as well.

Say Patrick,

The adjustment of the worm gear as to how it meshed with the main drive gear, on the older Mantua's that I have, they are all metal too especially being earlier and electrical pickup was done through the tender too, was done buy sliding the motor forward or backward with the two mounting screws loosened a bit. The Armature shaft and worm gear were at an angle sloping forward to allow for more precise mesh of the worm gear and the main drive gear on the driver axel.

If this is the same for yours just make sure with the boiler off, I always put a little nut on the long screw going through the steam chest section so it it could be held easily without loosing the steam chest as well as test running it.

Hth
The newer ones may well have changed, I'm uncertain.

Good morning folks

It was a chilly 30 F when I left this morning. It was the first morning I had to scrape the frost off the van windows. Our high today will be 53 F.

We took the kids to get their haircuts last night. We also started decorating the inside of the house.

This weekend, my son will be camping with his Boy Scout troop at Camp Rodney in Maryland. I have one more outside decoration to put up; a lighted train. On Sunday we will be attending an open house with my daughter at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia with my daughter. We are hoping that we will have an opportunity to speak with the volleyball coach or his assistant while we are there. Later Sunday we have a meeting for my daughter’s club volleyball team and she will get fitted for her uniform. We will also continue decorating the inside of the house for Christmas.

I am hoping that at some point I can get some train time in.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning. It's 39° and mostly sunny. The high will be 68° and it will be mostly sunny.

Yesterday morning I took my fathers Mercury Marquis (older of the two they have) to the GM dealership in New Llano so some handycap equipment could be removed from it. It's being traded in on a Chevy hardtop convertible. My mother wanted a BMW but my father (predictably) told her it would be a cold day in h*** when he bought her one of those. So she settled on the Chevy convertible. The only problem I can see with it is that the space between the console and the brake pedal is tight. I can barely get my walking boot to the gas pedal and I'll be the one driving the car quite a bit as my mother can't drive due to health problems that make her a hazard to anything on the road. My boot is five and a half inches wide and the gap it has to fit through is five and three quarter inches. So I told my father yesterday it needs part of the brake pedal removed. Either that or find somebody else to drive her to where she needs to go. If I know my father (and I should, I've only known him for like half a century) he'll get that brake pedal modified so I can drive the car to take my mother to wherever she needs to go for virtually nothing rather than pay somebody to do it. The man's a classic cheapskate and will find any way he can to keep from spending money. Now the fun (depends on your point of view) yesterday started when I got to the car lot. I removed items that my father wanted (Rotary Club plate, sunglasses, paperwork, a couple of blankets, etc) then told the salesman I needed to see someone about getting back some of the money taht had been spent on the extended warranty. It still had two years left on it and that amounted to a couple of hundred bucks. The woman I would have to see about that was busy with a customer but it would only be a few minutes. It would have to be as I had more important things to get done before noon. A few minutes turned to fifteen, then thirty then forty-five. All this time my niece has been waiting for me outside. She was my ride home. Finally the customer left the office and I started toward the door paperwork in hand. It had been close to an hour now. Before I got to the door she called in another customer. That tore it! No way was I waiting around for another hour or more. If my father wanted that warranty cashed in he could darn well do it himself. I had my niece take me back to my parents place where I had left my van earlier. I told my mother what had happened, left the paperwork with her and went about the business of getting gas for my van (took eighteen gallons to top up a twenty-four gallon tank ($55.78 at $3.099 a gallon) then getting two bills paid, buying the groceries and getting back home. I still have to reimburse my father for paying my electric bill and car insurance. After that's done I'll see if I have enough left to send a couple of things out.

Good Afternoon/Evening All it's 4:50 pm,
Today has been relatively calm and sunny at about 45*

Yesterday and especially later into the night the wind started to pick up and I measured gusts as high as 27.5 mph. It belew a dead tree over that was in front of the house but fortunately it fell away from the house so no real damage happened thank God.

Say Jeffrey:

Sounds like you Mom needs to find a couple of lady friends she can go around with. My poor Mom, God rest her Soul, lost the few friends she had so I was in the same position as you in that it was necessary for me to take her everywhere and I don't need to tell you how time consuming that can get as she couldn't drive due to her Diabetes.

Say Patrick:
Ok, time to use the Nut on the long screw going through the steam chest AGAIN!! LoL It's also important to take the bottom plate off that holds the drivers in their bearings and be sure the axel U shaped bearings are not gummed up which they may be also so clean them like you did the gears. Use some very light grease on them once clean and ensure they all fit into their bearings freely and not cocked in any way.

Ps: Kindly note I started out by letting you know about using the keeper Nut on the steam chest screw so it didn't come off on you again. LoL

Have a good night all.

Good Morning, from Buffalo NY. Looks like we are going to have a very fine day today. Mid forties and partly sunny.

Good morning. It's 56° and cloudy. The high will be 70° and we will be having what the weather guesser calls 'partial sunshine'. Looks like mostly cloudy to me.

No plans today. I'll just do what I think should be done when I think of it providing I can remember it long enough to do anything about it. I can think of something to do and by the time I've gotten up to - what was I going to do? It can be aggravating at times. Yesterday I sent out a KCS Southern Belle grain car to a friend in north Louisiana. Monday he'll be sending me a well car with containers. I don't know what I'll do with it yet.

I pulled the motor and tranny out of my 72 Monte Carlo 2 weeks ago. Today I got the motor all cleaned and repainted and it now looks better than it has in quite a while. Tomorrow I plan on cleaning the engine compartment and get it painted semi gloss black. The headers are getting ceramic coated and will look like chrome when done this next week. New bowtie valve covers and all stainless steel bolts on the engine and it should do well at this coming summers car shows. Maybe when I get the car out of the Monte out of the garage and into the man cave storage facility I will get back to the RR room. I have been building an "N" scale layout for the Madison County Historical Society in downtown Anderson IN. The layout is in the basement Where we also have An HO, S, O, O n3 and a trolly layout.
