Afternoon All ! Larry Congratulations to your wife Glendia on her upcoming 35th Anniversary ! Steve sounds like you could be saving lifes in the future . Not much going on here just another really nice day to work in the garden . Hope everyone has as nice a day as mine !!

Paul My day was absolutely fantastic as usual. Went to work and took a no sugar applesauce cake with me for the crew. They all loved it as I do. Being diabetic I never knew there was so many goodies that I CAN have but Glendia is always on the lookout for new and exciting foods for me to try and she is getting really good at find them for me. Wow I think I am on a sugar high and I have not had any sugar in about 3 or 4 days now, Diet Pepsi, sugar free Ice Cream (Yummy on that one) and a couple of coney/spanish dogs for supper with glass of diet lemonade. I have lost a good 10 to 12 lbs since I started working at the True Value hardware in Pendleton Indiana about 2 months ago. So walking all the aisles and the sugar free diet seem to be working great, I can even get comfortably into the size 40 pants I have been keeping for the last 5 years WHOOPEE!!!!!!!! Plus all the new cargo shorts are size 40 so's I is in good shape until cold weather gets here and the longer that takes the happier I will get.

Way to go, Paul EDIT: Yikes I mean Larry, sorry. I don't have the diabetes problem, but certainly need to lose the weight.

Steve, that sounds like an interesting exhibit. Years ago I was the General Foreman at a Chem Plant and a side duty was as Fire Brigade Chief. The management wanted me to get everyone trained in fighting fires. I got the State Fire College to provide training in all aspects of chemical fires, bought the proper personal equipment, studied about fires, and then we fought huge fires at the college. After all was done and the plant's insurance company was happy, the management just let it all go. Heck, even the men came to me and said, "...if there was a fire, all I would see is our rear end going up the hill." :D Oh well, I couldn't blame them and would probably be pushing them up the hill. ;) :D :D

Larry,

I understand the need to lose weight, but be careful with the aspartame. (In diet soda) It is a neurotoxin and can and will cause a lot of symptoms including foggy thinking, memory loss and migraine headaches. IF that were not enough, because it is sweet, it fool your body into creating an insulin response like you have when you eat sugar. Splenda (sucralose, a prodct of pesticide research) is not much better.

A more sane approach if you must have sweets is stevia, an herb found in health food stores. It is sweet, has a low insulin response, but is not toxic.

If you want find out how something so toxic made it through the FDA process I wrote an article about it. The Aspartame Story: Or how a neurotoxin was deemed safe

Good morning ! from Indiana. :D

Good morning and top 'o' the day to all of ye.

Today's Weather for:

Wind Chill: 70°F
Humidity: 88%

A large portion the central U.S. could see severe weather on Wednesday. At the same time, warm and dry weather continues to rule the eastern half of the U.S.

Major cities such as Dallas, Oklahoma City and possibly as far north as Minneapolis all could be under the gun for severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon. Warm temperatures and moist Gulf air out ahead of a strong cold front will help fuel these storms with temperatures reaching into the 70s and 80s.

Areas from northern Oklahoma through southeastern Nebraska have the greatest threat for the most damaging of these storms, some of which could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes.

Behind this storm system, there will be a chance of rain and weak thunderstorms for much of the northern Rockies into the northern Plains. Temperatures here will be on the cool side with highs only in the 50s and 60s.

Most locations east of the Mississippi will see warmer conditions with mostly sunny skies. Temperatures from the Southeast northward to the Great Lakes will approach 90 degrees with slightly cooler temperatures in the Northeast.

The only exception will be southern Florida where typical springtime showers and thunderstorms will again be likely. In addition, a slight chance of showers exists for the central Appalachians and adjacent locations to the east.

Across the West, easterly down-sloping winds in California should support hot temperatures into the low 90s for the valleys while low-level clouds should keep coastal areas cooler in the 70s. Further north, coastal Oregon and Washington should remain mostly cloudy and cool with highs only in the 50s and a chance of late-day showers.

Thank You all for the warm wishes... However it's not enough to warm up the temps in these areas:(

Ah yes the weight thing... Larry, It is difficult to say the least. I managed to loose the weight when I was ashore for two years but I was eating salad for lunches and biking back and forth to work daily. Went back to sea and that was the end of that! Though I still am very active at home (bike 10+ km a day) and on the ship but the ship food is a killer. I normally am able to loose the several pounds I gain every month I'm home but it's a yoyo experience.

Chip: Ignorance is bliss, unfortunately I'm none too blissful as the more I read the more I shake my head. Amazing what we ingest and are allowed to ingest. This isn't the first time I've heard aspartame is problematic. I'm also amazed if it is this much a problem why they are still allowed to sell it, then again they sell cigarettes.

We had frost warnings last night and I had to cover over the Cannna Lillies:mad:

I've been busy in the garden the last few days and my hands are very stiff as I've been digging, picking, shoveling wiring, hoing (garden hoe that is:o ) and grading.

Tried soldering last night but all I wanted to do was sleep, which explained why the decoder wasn't working properly:confused: Here I am with the decoder hooked up to the engine, the speaker is working fine and making noise, the wheels a re turning but I can't get the lights to work... after several attempts and almost at the point "This decoder is %$*&@ !" I realize there is two decoders in front of me and the one that isn't wired in is the one I'm fiddling with!!! DOH! I soon went to bed after that.

Anyway I've said enough for today

Smoke'm if ya gottem

Fergie

Fergie,

Unfortunately the systems is corrupt. The purpose of our government is to provide big industry with compliant markets. Sick people for drugs. etc. The career path for top level FDA execs is 6 figure jobs in the pharmaceutical or chemical industries. You don't get the job if you make waves.

If you do make waves, as the Vioxx whistle blower did. You get 15 minutes of fame but nothing changes. It pretty much ends your career in the FDA. This guy at least, will make some money on the lecture circuit for a few years.

Aspartame has been since it's introduction, the most reported substance to the FDA every single year. As you saw in my article, Searles, the company that patented aspartame, was the first company ever sued by the Justice Department for falsifying research to the FDA. Yet, we still have this physically addicting chemical in our sugar-free products. [/rant]

Good Morning All ! ANother beautiful day here on the Niagara Frontier .Rex I also workd in a Chemical Plant for 19 years and belonged to the Fire brigade . I was taught when certain chemicals started on fire to run the other way and I mean feet don't fail me now ! We had chemicals that had to be kept below freezing if they cam up to 32 degrees look out nice explosion . Well gotta get going out and enjoy this day temps. up in the 80's so don't want to miss out . Have a great day all ! Oh yeah I've been a diabetic for 12 years and learned to go on with life without sugar . But if you need that rush it won't kill you to have a sweet once in awhile !

Good Morning, all!
Goodness, it's smokey here in T-town. The winds are blowing the smoke from the Georgia wildfires this way and we have a visibility of 1-2 miles. Cough! Cough!:p :D

Fergie, if you eat a breakfast on ship like Jeffrey's, you would have to ride your bike 20km/day:eek: :D . Did you see my post on the Tsunami LED compensation CV's?

Paul, I worked at a agro-chem plant that made herbicides. We used Toluene as the vehicle to move the product through the system and methanol to clean our water processing unit (resin beds). Nothing like what you mentioned, but still better to leave for the experts, if there was a fire.;) Our biggest personal danger were the chlorinated phenols/cresols used in the process. Very deadly stuff, if it got on you.

Howdy everyone! Nice to see that place is full. Flo, just a black coffee for me. Chip has got me scared.......... Just got back from school after putting away all the mics, stands and cords we used for last nights concert. Also had to readjust lighting for the Band concert next week. This afternoon I may drive over to Victor, NY and buy a new laptop. About time to upgrade as my old G4 mac scares me every time I boot her up (even though she still runs without any problems). It is so slow compared to the dual G5 desktop I am on right now that I think something is wrong. Besides that I want to start looking at operations on the layout and will need to have a database of all my rolling stock to set up trains.

Fergie, I know what you mean about the food when you have to eat "institutional" food. At Boy Scout Camp we offer around 6000 calories a day to the young men there. They will burn that much, but as camp director I spent most of the day sitting in the office. The first year I was Camp Director (29 years ago) I gained 30 lbs. over the summer. The next year I got out and did more "management by walking around"......

Sorry Steve, I don't do anchovies. But thanks anyway!

Sorry guys. One of my pet pieves. Had a client come in last week complaining of chronic pain. She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 17 years ago. After working with her, I find out her symptoms started about the time she switched to diet soda. If I'm right, she will have suffered with severe pain needlessly for 17 years.

If you knew what you ate,,,yuk our local superstore was on tv last night, OMG, the tricks they get up to when it's closed, re labelling out of date food and allsorts of other stuff YUK

Morning!! I'll sit over in the corner guys, I have the flu!!

We are nearly there with the house, carpet goes in today, minor paint touch ups etc. We have the next two weeks off work (plus these couple of sick days) Really looking forward to the move.

There are some things in the contract (front fence, vege garden, washing line) that haven't been done, we have the right to withhold payment and not take possession and charge them %14 per day till it is done. It's serious money but we really want to be in there, do I just make subtle suggestions or go all out?

Ken.

Chip, quite all right. Actually after reading the website you posted, I have decided to cut out all the diet stuff and see if some chronic stuff I have gets better. I have been using the stuff for a dozen years or so. Knew it wasn't really good for you but didn't know any specifics......

I picked up the new Mac Laptop this afternoon. Will finish setting up later tonight. Right now it is transfering files from my old G4 laptop. Neat part of the set-up for the computer - just tell it to transfer all your files, programs, and settings from your old computer and it does it.

Hi NZKen! Sorry you're down with the flu. I'm not familiar with your laws, but you will be better off waiting until all is done to your satisfaction. Otherwise, and if you can move in, you may have a constant battle trying to get the work done. Don't rush them at this stage or it may not come out like you want. I understand your excitement and we went through the same ordeal once. That house was 1 month over due, but we angrily waited.

Mornin' Flo, I'll have what Jeffrey's having today. Keep the coffee coming and add a glass of OJ.

Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' Jeffrey!

Got files transfered from the old laptop onto the new MacBook. Still have some things that I have to figure out and will have to manually set some settings but basically it is ready to use. Weird thing is I fired up the old laptop and it asked me if I wanted to join such and such network as my familiar (the one at camp) networks weren't available. Someone nearby has just got a wireless system. I have excellent signal here so it must be close by.
