Hiya people,

I'm just 'coming up for air', haven't been on the forums much lately because I've been immersed in a new addiction: weathering. Remember when the Grande Man got his new rebel XTI ~15 months ago, then disappeared completely from the modeling scene? That's the way it is with me, I get involved in a weathering project and become oblivious to the outside world. I'm attempting my first 'total prototype' replication, an Athearn PS2-2600 covered hopper in faded Chessie paint (similar to the one I posted in WPF). I had to surgically rearrange many of the grabirons.

Tom, condolences about your friend - those sudden deaths are always shockers. I lost a 55yr-old coworker the same way about a year ago, took a while for me to get over it. Made me more attentive to getting my regular checkups though.

Jeffrey - that's scary about the brakes, glad your dad is there to help you out with that situation.

Paul, I sure wish my family members' birthdays were as conveniently 'packaged'! Starting in August, we're doing a birthday every month thru December.

Carl, she's a keeper for sure!

Phillip - that's great news about your son!

Jim, sure hope nothing comes out of that tornado watch, your region has suffered enough already

Good evening folks

What a wild and long day. I just got on the computer here at 10:45 PM. My daughter started the morning with a travel team softball practice. Then we had to go shoe shopping for her Easter dress. Next she had softball practice for her Little League team. While she was there I took care of the leaves that had accumulated under the bushes in the front yard. Then my son had his basketball playoff game. They won the championship for their level 29 to 28 on a foul shout in the last 20 seconds. We then went out to dinner to celebrate.

As you can tell no modeling today.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I am still in shock. Today the obituary was in the paper. Tomorrow night will be the viewing.

I hope everybody has a good day.

So I have been making my way to the LHS pretty much every weekend for the last few months to pick the brains of a few of the people working there. One of them in particular has been extremely helpful in answering my questions, giving me ideas, and causing me to have more questions. :D It's kind of like a face-to-face of being on here sometimes. Anyway, he invited me over to get a glimpse of his layout and see his collection.....totally blew me away. Lots and lots of Rock Island pretty much everywhere. Very impressive collection IMO. Anyway, he explained some things to me about DCC and showed me how to use the Digitrax controller which was very helpful to me in preparation of getting my own setup. Became familiar with the throttle and sound buttons, moved some cars around, and things like that. It was just like being a little kid all over again. :)

He also showed me a few C&NW engines that I have been contemplating getting as of late and oddly enough he is going to be selling some off soon.....must be a sign.

Carl, hang on to that guy as a friend. It sounds like he will be a big help as you get further along in your layout.

Tom, you are the busiest guy I've ever know. Congratulations on your son on the basketball win.

Jeffrey, it you come over to my house once a week and cut my lawn, I'll pay you off in rolling stock. :)

Ken, no tornados, not even a shower, thank goodness. I'm still baffled as to why NOAA went right to a tornado watch for our area when absolutely nothing ws happening. Even though they are professionals and I'm just an amateur, we were all looking at the same charts and models and I couldn't see anything that would support a tornado watch. Like I said, I'm sure it was being overcautious after Atlanta but they have to be careful about crying wolf too often.

Good morning coffee shoppers. And a blessed Palm Sunday to all of you of the Christian Faith! I am just checking in on my way to church. My church traditionally has a Palm Sunday Brunch that is out of this world and holds an auction to benefit One Great Hour of Sharing. So I will be coming home from church late, very stuffed, and hopefully not too much poorer today......

The temperature this morning here in the Finger Lakes is 33°F and the high is predicted to be 32°F. Well that's what it says! We have a goodly amount of the white flaky stuff falling right now. They say 30% chance of snow.........

Carl, it looks like you have befriended a good person to help you along the path. It is great to see what others have done and be able to learn from them as well as gain experience in operations.

Ken L so that is where you've been? Getting into the weather(ing). That will be sometime down the road for me. Hopefully not too far though.

Jim sure glad you had a calm night last night. We seldom have any real risk of tornados up here, but I still get nervous the once or twice a summer they put out a watch.

Jeffrey I'm glad the troll got swatted fast over in the WPF thread. I was thinking we had been invaded by someone from across the street. Glad the bouncer is checking IDs at the door.....

Have a great day everyone!

Morning all!

I'll have a cup of joe to start me out please!

I know what you mean. The last thing we need around here is a flippin' troll.

Mornin' people--

Just got back from playing early Palm Sunday Mass at my parish, now I've got a couple of hours before I go out and play another Palm Sunday service at a Passionist Retreat center.

"Spring Break", huh? Not during Holy Week, LOL!
Spent yesterday converting a whole bunch of new freight cars to Kadee's--I hate it when one of my trains breaks in half going up-grade. Still waiting for the PSC castings (Front pumps, Elesco FWH system) for my erstwhile 'basket-case' Yellowstone which is now NOT in pieces on the kitchen table. Then after that, I went out to my California Basement and hung some new lighting fixtures over the Deer Creek yards and engine facilities. Either that garage has gotten darker this year, or I'm getting a LOT older TOO fast! Anyway, it's all nice and bright out there and I'll be able to see what I'm doing when I start revising the yard. Still wish I'd planned ahead for a turntable, when I started building the layout years ago. Oh well--my 0-5-0 'turntable' is going to have to do the honors, I suppose. Soon as I figure out exactly what I'm doing, I'll post some pictures.

Well, got to get the music together for this afternoon's Mass. I'll have some time to work on the layout Monday and Tuesday, but after that--I might has well move my sleeping bag down to the Parish until after Easter Sunday. Whew!
At least Lent will be over and I can start eating chocolate again, LOL!

Tom

Hi Folks decent type of day here in Central Nova. There's an outside possibility the poster was not a true Troll, and time will tell in regard to future posts. I couldn't help but notice the wording was so similar to a previous attack post, but I will give the benefit of doubt. The attitude may be a carryover from another forum where that type of negativism is tolerated. Anyone can make a mistake, thinking a negative statement made in jest is funny, but in fact truly is an attack type post. If the true intention of the negative statement was meant in jest then it might be nullified with an sincere apology. Non the less a negative type comment does hurt the target person. A forum is only as good as it's membership, and without them a forum doesn't exist. I cruise this Forum for many hours daytime and night. It takes time to read every post, and I can't always do it nor can the other moderators. So if you should see something you consider spam or negative posts that are contrary to the good will and friendliness of our forums please use the report post button

in the Blue header at the top right side of the post. For those members who have been using it "Thank You"
Y'all have a great day
Cheers Willis

Yep, Willis, it sure sounded to me like a couple people (self proclaimed perfectionists...) from over across the street. I was glad to see your prompt response. That is what has kept this forum thee best around!

Hi fellows! We got back this afternoon from our camping trip. Other than a bad storm coming through in the wee hours of Saturday morning, there was near perfect weather. We had a couple that were on their way back home to Maine as neighbors and really enjoyed their company. Only downside was my wife got tangled in their dog's lease and fell. She waited until we got back home to get her wrist checked out and it turns out she broke a small bone. Now she's hoping to be able and get light duty at her job. If not, we will be eating a lot of beans for awhile.:D

A top o' the mornin' to ye! And a lovely St. Patrick's day it be 'ere in the Finger Lakes me friends. Understand that I have very little Irish in me. I am mostly English with some German, Scotch, and Bourbon.............. Actually Howard is a Scottish surname so I am most likely predominantly Scottish. (Mostly just plain old ordinary Mutt.)

It is a sunny 27°F right at the moment and may reach a high of 35° later on today. I spent last evening (after doing some recording for a CD I've been working on for 2 years) finishing up most of the paperwork for the Electrical AP Certificate. Just have a few more odds and ends to get done and i can send it on to the MMR who will head up the team to inspect the SLOW for his approval.

Have a great day!

Morning all, Happy St. Patrick's Day, make sure you sport the green today. :)

We have some construction going on at work near my work area today. Very noisy and extra bodies everywhere so my efficiency might drop abit with the distraction. :D

St. Patty's day, huh? Well, Hope everyone has a safe and happy one. I'll be in work and school all of my waking hours today, not that St. Patricks day means anything to me anyways.

Supposed to be pretty nice today for the most part, but rain is going to move in later. It's OK though because I'd rather rain then snow!

My wife is calling to set up the appointment with our surgeon today to see about helping out our son. We'll have an appointment later this week I assume to go over the details. I sure hope this all works out! It could mean a huge change for my son!

I see that there was some sort of stir over the weekend around here. Quite unusual, but then, it's going to happen from time to time I suppose.

Oh well, I'm off!
