:D Well leap year weekend proved uneventful this time around. It was the second anniversary of my tonsil removal operation. It is hard to believe it has been 8 years since I had all of that work done on my nose and throat. Having your tonsils removed at 51 yrs olds is not one of my most highly recommended procedures. When I had it done I had sleep apnea, a deviated septum(ran into a wall when I was in the third grade and broke my nose but did not realize it until the doc went up the nose and had a look) and the tonsils were inflamed just before the operation. Having a probe go up your nose and down into your throat is another unrecommended procedure. Sleeping in a recliner for 4 days one does not get a good nights sleep, so I was very uncomfortable for a couple of weeks. After the operation I got to know what a good nights sleep was and wished I could get back to it now.

Morning all!

Well, 67 degrees in Indianapolis yesterday, so 30's and ice storms today......what else! Ya know, people use that saying about "If you don't like the weather in ________, just stick around 5 minutes, it'll change!", but I'm pretty sure that it originated here! There's flood warnings out today, winter storm warnings posted, and ice storm warnings posted for today, all just one day after it was almost 70 degrees with a light breeze the day before!

Well, the wife continues to improve. She isn't exactly running marathons or anything, but we're working on the exercises that the physical therapist recommended and she's doing well. Thanks to some killer meds she's not in too much pain. Percocet 10's are her best friend right now.

Oh well, I best get busy here!

Later!

Mornin' everybody!

It's a very pleasant 45°F right now outside and going up to 52°F today. We are, however, under a winter storm watch for tomorrow and Wednesday. They are predicting up to half and inch of ice in this one. Fun and games........ And I'm fresh out of burnable wood. Oh well I have two gas units that don't need electric to provide heat and with lanterns, candles, and a gas stove for cooking, I should be very comfortable if the electric goes out.

Philip glad your wife is recovering well. She will be chasing you around the house before long.

:) A very good Morning all!:)
It's an extremely nice morning at an already 71 degrees. Nope...it won't last as they are predicting a pretty rough night with T-storms and a colder tomorrow. Natcherly the weather would turn just when we are to pick up the travel trailer (tomorrow).

Good news is I am back in full swing with my modeling. It sure is funny how we have these slumps and then we recover with just as much enthusiasm as when we first started. Of course my year started out as crap by losing our poodle, flu, trying to quit smoking, Mother falling, .... That's all behind now and everything sure looks brighter.

Speaking of my Mother, she made it through 20 day rehab just fine, but she would have nothing to do with staying for assisted living. So we got her a beeper thing (Lifeline) to call for emergency and I managed to make her stop driving (I hope). I didn't dare take the keys away, but showed my worry and displeasure of her driving. So, she is happy now and that is what counts...no matter what.

Oh...uh...the smoking thing. Well, I made it 2 months and then fell off the wagon. I am smoking again, but trying to keep it at a minimum and maybe I will be able to try later when things are more settled. To all, I say Centrix is a very good medicine to help you quit smoking. It works! My problem with it was I ended up with several of the side effects of restly sleep, weird dreaming, and intestinal discomfort (gas, constipation), and 10 pounds. About two weeks after I quit taking it, I started smoking again. If you are wanting to quit, try it, you may not have any side effects.

Hope you all have a great day!;)

Hi guys, just letting you know I'm alive. I've been writing again. this time an eBook called The Born Loser's Guide to Abundance. It's been kinda fun--but a lot of work.

Hold the fort for me.

Evening, guys.

Been pretty busy runing around the house getting ready for our storm. Should start about 10 PM and get severe about midnight. Jeffrey, I hope you are OK since I know Louisana is getting before us. If our dewpoint mangaes to get up to 60 (it's 53 now), it should be an e-ticket ride, that's for sure.

Rex, yes, I know, Auburn. The whole family are Bama fans but what can you do when a university wants to pay for your entire college costs? I'm sure that will help with some railroad funding than I would have had otherwise. It looks like the edge of the storm is just start to get to T-Town so batten down the hatches.

I'll be back in the morning for a damage report. I hope I'm completely wrong but this one has all the earmarks of big trouble. :(

The storm blew right through here and went on it's way. There wasn't as much damage as I thought there would be, hardly any.

Mornin' Bill & Gang,

Rex - glad you're back in full swing, better luck next time on the smoking thing.

Jim - hope that storm didn't turn out as bad as you feared.

Chip - glad to see you're OK, just ultra-busy. Got a link to that book you're working on?

Ray - looks like you had a lotta operating fun at your house, maybe someday I'll get mine to that point!

Phillip, hope the wife continues her climb to recovery. I think your Sunday weather came to us yesterday, I was in shirtsleeves by afternoon.

Well I finally have some good news to report for a change. We just got our February electric bill, and our kW-hrs were down by 25% - the dollar amount was $125 less than the previous month!:D And we only took delivery of the new dryer in mid-February. Hope this is a permanent thing and not just a statistical blip...

Good morning folks

It is some odd weather this morning. Temperature was 56 F as I rolled onto the road. Our high will be 67 F. We are under a Flood Watch since we are expecting heavy rain later tonight.

My daughter went to the doctors and had her foot X-rayed. Nothing was broken just a bad sprain. She is getting around on the crutches.

I have a busy morning at work this morning. We are conducting project safety reviews. We have two streetscape projects and these things are usually nightmares. The consultants have no clue how to design a DOT project and follow criteria. Most of these guys are local municipal engineers and they are used to being god. No one checks them and they make up the rules as they go along. There is a certain amount of satisfaction to watch as their egos get deflated. The third project is a bridge rehab designed by a consultant who has done a bunch of work for us so it should go smoothly. I have to run to the Scout Store and pick up a couple of things that I discovered last night we don’t have for the Blue & Gold Banquet on Saturday.

I tidied up the layout some last night. I was going to do a photo session with the TOFCs I just finished weathering but I am having problems with my portable background. As the more and more of the layout is getting sceniked the more trouble I am having with the poster board I have for a portable sky. I have an old bed sheet but I am having trouble find ways to hang it in different areas.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all!

Well, the weather guesser was off again. No real ice storm last night. Yes, it rained, and it got cold, and some of the rain froze, but the sleet and freezing rain never happened and the 1/4" to 1/3" ice on everything never happened either. Thats 0/3 for the weather guy on storms this winter. Oh well, I guess I'd rather have him predict the worst and nothing come of it then the other way around, huh?

So anyways, guess what he's predicting today! You guessed it!

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY UNTIL MIDNIGHT

Today: Light freezing rain & sleet changing to snow this afternoon - high: 33

Tonight: Snow ends late, total accum. 1"-2" - low: 25

We'll see......................

Oh, for those of you keeping up, the wife is doing better. She was able to lift her leg last night (just a little mind you) with just her leg muscles....no assistance. Now we don't want to be doing that all the time, but it's a good sign! Actually, she did it by accident. She was rolling over in bed and did it without even thinking. Only after she'd done it did we realize what she'd just done.

You know, we sat up talking til 2am last night. Just about everything and nothing. It was great, but I'm draggin' butt today! I think an early bedtime will be the order of the day today!

Tom, tell that girl of yours to take it easy......those sprains can hurt almost as much as a break.

So whats up with all of you?

Good Morning ALL ! Well the winter storm warning is up in our neck of the woods . From Noon today till 11 tomorrow morning . Perdicting 1/2 inch of ice for us. Can hardly wait . The only thing that bothers me is the wild swing in temps. from 59 last night to 28 today . Phillip glad to hear the wife moved her leg. Sometimes by accident you realize you can do something . Gotta go take some medicine so hope everyone has a real good day !!

Mornin' folks!

Bill I see all kind of stuff on the menu this morning but isn't Spam supposed to be there someplace? I was hoping for eggs, spam sausage, toast, and spam.......

Ken L That is good news on your electric bill. Yes, the new Energy Star appliances pay for themselves. I have made a lot of changes around here including a new Energy Star Refrigerator. This Feb electric usage was 60% lower than a year ago. Small changes can make a big difference. BTW, I just filled up the little Yaris with gas yesterday afternoon. Did the math and she is getting right now in mixed driving 37.4 MPG. She will pay for herself too I think. The Dakota this time of year could get 18 MPG tops (probably more like 16 or 17) doing the same routine.

Paul the weather prognosticators have now issued a warning for tonight calling for around 3/4" of ice. Could result in power outage and some serious bad driving. Unfortunately my son will most likely have to work tonight and would be driving in the worst of it. (Worrying is a grandfather's job......)

Jeffrey good luck at the Doctor's office!

Philip glad to hear that your wife is doing so well. The thing I still miss the most is those long talks about nothing at all with my late wife. Even after 20 years I still miss her. That is a sign of a good, strong relationship.

OK, I've got three days work to get caught up on before lunch...... Later!

Got my Digitrax decoders today. The FedEx van showed up just as I was coming into the driveway. I'll see if I can install them sometime this week.

Afternoon, everyone.

Well, it was a long night, with the last of the severe thunderstorms passing through at just about 5:00 am. There was one brief tornado touchdown about 8 miles from the house but the funnel only lasted about 20 seconds before it dissipated. The family was sleeping but I have one of those air horns that I told them I would blow to get up and down to the basement and I came close but there were never any vortex signatures after that first one. Had some whopping thunderstorms with 2.17 inches of rain and 55 mph winds but it wasn't bad overall. This is always the most nervous month in Alabama since we've had more tornado deaths in March than any other month.

Phillip, glad to hear your wife can move her leg even a little. How is her pain level? I'm with Ray on those late night talks. When we knew Jean was dying we had many of those. The good thing was she died with noting left unsaid between us. It's a good thing for all spouses to do.

Ray, it's only been four years for me and, even though I was lucky enough to find the second love of my life, I will miss Jean forever.

Jeffrey, hope all goes well at the doc's office

Paul, living in upstate New York this time of the year is just a lovely experience, isn't it? :) Of course, I don't know which is worse, worrying about getting killed by a tornado or getting killed by your car sliding around on the ice. At least with the tornado, you're warm when it gets you. :D

Tom, glad the girl was not too badly hurt. Having been in construction project management, I can feel your pain. :(

Ken, nice when and electric bill goes down. Dryers are huge consumers of electricity and the new ones are way more energy efficient.

Ray, sounds like the Yaris is everything you expected in terms of fuel economy. How doe she drive and ride? Since I bought our house in 2006, I had to buy all new appliance too since I had sold everything in California. We got the most energy efficient ones they had and I think I only have two or thee incandescent bulbs left in the house. These kinds of things really do work. My house is 3400 sq ft and my electric bill in the heat of summer is usually only about $200. I'm investigating whether replacing my less efficient heat pump to see if the saving will pencil out. I think the payback time on that one might be too long though.

The storms have passed now and we have partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 64. The cold front is trailing the original squall line by about 500 miles, kind of weird thing, so we should drop about 15 degrees once it gets here. As for now, I'm just glad we didn't get test twice in two weeks.

rant over,,, got three very nice models off ebay today, and at bargain prices as well, they are going into the NZ box
