gonna be a good day here in PA to hole up in the basement. after yesterday the insulating is done, so now i have my second wind to finish the plumbing & HVAC and telecomm wiring so we can start drywall. (a first class railroad deserves a first class atmosphere!) cant wait to have worthy pics for the WPF and I am going to document my steel benchwork technique in a how to forum on here. can't wait

(edit) OMG I just looked outside and it is all like, bright or something. Is this the end of the world? Will it hurt me? Help........ (It's time to play, Spot the Looney....) Oh wait, it went away. Pheeeewwww!

CJ, so very sorry to hear about your lose. ;) So very hard to lose something that valuable that you have been so close to for so many years. Hope the new hose last just as long!

Tom good morning sir order anything you like and I will take care of it! (Flo, put what ever Tom has on Fergies bill - he said it would be alright. What, no really. No, I'm not trying to get you in trouble again.....)

Well, woke up to overcast sky this morning, with a big belly-whopper of a storm due tonight and Sunday--many feet of snow in the Sierra, about 2-plus inches of rain for down here in the Valley and winds up to 60mph. Now I know that 2 inches of rain doesn't sound like much to a lot of you who reside in places that have four DISTINCT seasons, LOL, but out here in SunnyCal, it's kind of a deluge.
And to top it off, I'm spending the day at a high school choral festival--should be interesting. An all-day workshop with the concert scheduled for just about the time the storm moves in. Should be fun herding about 300+ high-schoolers in between gusts. Unfortunately, out here in Sacramento, anything above 30mph winds, the power just shuts down for a couple of days and we end up with crews all over the place looking for downed poles and uprooted trees.
Ah well, at least I have a new roof over the layout, LOL!
Wish me luck, guys. Oh, and Flo--that coffee's just as good as it ever was--even better!

Tom

Philip Thats spot on, i went months without scoring when i was at school, i only scored once and i'll never forget that day ever.
TomIt's great to see you around, Say hi to the cats for me will ya.
Carey hope you get thirty years from your new hose

Good afternoon folks

I have a couple of crazy days with the snow yesterday. I never made it to work due the road conditions. The kids had off from school so we did a few things around the house. The roads cleared up around noon so we ran a few errands.

I went out this morning and got my haircut. We are about to head out to softball and baseball tryouts. It is kind of hard to get into mood when there is snow on the ground. At least we are indoors at the middle school gym.

I began sealing the flat cars last night.

I hope everybody has a good day.

My condolences on your loss Carey, and a notable obituary I must say :D
Philip great going for your son, get lots of photos they make for great memories
More snow last night, nothing new, thankfully it doesn't seem to get to accumulate. Rain forecast for Monday.
You all have a great day, have to go now, the pooch needs her walk

Cheers Willis

Hello again,

I spent most of yesterday getting my new Toy. Thought I would share a few photos of it. I'm not sure yet whether to repaint it and decal it for the Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western or leave it as it is. I was probably good for me to get out of the basement more though......

Tom W good luck with the festival. Hope you blow them away (as opposed to being blown away....) It has been several years since I have directed one (probably a good thing with my hearing these days). They do let me record the local ones here. This year was great as the featured composer/director for the Jr. High Orchestra (every year the Finger Lakes Music Educators commissions a piece for one of the groups) was a former middle school student of mine from 2 decades ago, Chris Auerbach-Brown. I was pleased that he was excited to see me (as was I to see him)! Then at the Elementary festival a few weeks later the orchestra did an arrangement by Jerry Brubaker who was a classmate and good freind of mine at Eastman. Been a fun year!

I passed on the congrats.....thanks!

So what have you all been up to today?

I bet I know what Ray's been up to! CRUZIN'! Thats one of those zillion miles to the gallon cars, huh?

I've been making and delivering pizzas all day. We made almost 600 pizzas in a little over two hours this morning, and the rest of the day we've been delivering out 70 of them.

CAREY sorry to hear of your loss. I will take a moment of silence tomorrow at 3PM for the passing of the hose. Seems like these kinds of things always fail in the middle of a job. Glad you were able to finsih your project. I have no more projects lined up for the shop so maybe the RR wil make some progress in the next few weeks. I really do need to get the Super Empire Builder hooked up. I need to drop a few more track feeders and run a new buss wires. I have the 14ga wire already just need to take the time and get my butt in gear and do it.

OMG! Where? :p :D

If you mean that straight line across it, the motor is well hidden down in there someplace.

CJ - quite an eloquent obit :D If it had happened to me on Friday, I'd have been SOL - no quick trip to the LHS when there's 1/4" of ice on the roads!

Ray - love that new "ride"

Ryan - wish I'd have used metal benchwork on my layout, been dealing with typical humidity fluctuation problems.

Cat/Bridge Tom - Sounds like a whopper of a storm heading your way, good luck with that.

Ken, I have really thought it through. my layout as well as most others will be in the basement. and of course humidity is a concern. as a former general contractor we have done some retail work with what is called "drywall art" such as curved soffits and bulk heads. with the products available, it is surprisingly easy. i intend on doing a forum on here about it. I can't wait to give back to this site as i have reaped so much from it.

Well, guess what--our storm has been delayed until late tomorrow morning--seems it petered out around Santa Cruz and is waiting for another wave to catch up with it. Ah, California--lived here all my 68 years, and NO ONE has ever gotten the weather right. Of course, now that I've said THAT, we'll probably get the worlds nastiest gully-washer in two hours, LOL!

Anyhow, it didn't interrupt the all-day choral festival at all. And pardon me, guys, if I do a little bragging, okay? What it entailed is the four Catholic high schools here in Sacramento. I retired from St. Francis Catholic High about four years ago, spent about six months just lazing around, and lo and behold, the Catholic boy's school here in town called me and said, "We could really use an accompanist and assistant director, are you interested?" Well, fellas, I was bored STIFF with retirement and said yes, then reminded myself, "Wait a minute, the choral program at this school has always been a JOKE!". Anyway, to make a long story short, I met the new director, got involved, and three years later, we have built the choir from 26 kids to over 180. And we're not a joke, anymore. Last year we started a 22-voice men's chamber ensemble, and today, we took them to the choral festival. 16 of the guys could show up, we were up against schools that had anywhere from 30 to 100 students in their concert and chamber choirs, and we went on with our 16 guys and just tore the ROOF off! Right now, I'm walking on air, I'm so darned proud of my guys that I could shout it for weeks! We did two numbers, one a-cappella number in Latin (hey, it's a Catholic choral festival, remember!) and ended up with the only pop number in the festival--"Barbara Ann" and not the sweet Beach Boys arrangement, but the original down and nasty Regents version, and when we finished, you'd swear the seats were WIRED, the audience of parents, faculty and administrators just stood up and went POSTAL! Dang, am I proud of those kids--love 'em all to death. If I had thirty more of them I could rule the WORLD, LOL!

So, fellas, tonight the coffee--and whatever--is on me. Flo, start it flowin, darlin'. You know where to send the tab.
Tom

Tom;

Congratulations! I know that you are really proud of your boys! I know how they feel to have beaten groups that were 5-6 times their size!:D Outstanding, really Outstanding!!:D:D:D

Carey--

Thanks, I am really proud of them. Just to carry it a little further, the Adjudicator, after we finished during the afternoon came up and kind of just stared at us, then grinned at me and said, "Where on EARTH did you get that incredible Bass section?" I grinned back and said, "The Soccer team." He just cracked up! It was a really GOOD day, by golly!
Tom

Ray nice new car you got there, and it blends in so well with the snow :)
Tom Bet that was fantastic to watch, i have never realy got into choral stuff, i used to be in a brass band years ago, and to hear a band on top form was fantastic, even if it was normally someone elses band doing the winning.

Good Morning Bill !!Lots of sun , glaringly so or is that Ray's new car ? Just a cup of coffee and out the dorr .Have to spend the day at the funeral home . Hope all have a good day !!!!!
