Carl Damned stupid pop ups are driving me mad, there is one right now flashing and making a noise, it won't go away for anything no matter how many times i close it, the ad-aware program is having a feast today

Lucky for me I am popup free, computer just gets slower through out the day.

Thanks for the tips Willis, I guess I may have to take care of some of that on Sunday.

Cheers Willis i have Ad-Aware from lavasoft and Mcafee security centre, for what it's worth, Whats happened is something / one has deleted all my system restore points before yesterday, also turned my security level to off on windows, which caused a barrage of all sorts of stuff landing in my PC, my toolbar at the bottom of the page it up the swanny river, all the icons have gone and in there place are six arrows ^ pointing left, here we go on attempt two to fix it

Mornin' all!

Tom, hearty congratulations on top honors at the festival! I know your boys enjoyed both performing so well and receiving the recognition for it. banana splits? I remember the days when I could polish off one of those with ease.......

Steve you will love the Mac. With over 500,000 programs available for it, it does everything the Windoz Boxes do without most of the hassle. You will find it very easy to learn. Former PC people seem to like OSX better than many of the old Apple OS people. I brought my MacBook to do my presentation yesterday and plopped it down next to the Superintendent's PC. He just graduated from RIT. He looked over at my laptop and nodded his head. The next old F**t in the door came over, put his hands over the Super's ears and said, "Good choice!" The RIT Grad then told him he doesn't dislike the Mac which led to a short discussion of IT people and the Mac platform. I mentioned that last summer I was informed by the director of the SciTek camp I do that my Mac wouldn't work on the PC network or would be very limited. I finished hooking up the laptop. Started everything up and called him over. Said to him, "I think this is your PC isn't it? Give your password and I will go in and clean up your Hard Drive for you...." Needless to say I didn't get any more anti Mac comments that week...:p ;) :D

Have a great day! I am off to a Camp Promotion outing at the Mall in Victor. There are usually a couple hundred different camps of all types with booths. I will be working our Church Camp Booth.

Mcafee security centre,
Good morning all, Steve I dumped Mcafee some time back as it wasn't near as effective warning of bad sites as the Avast AV. MacAfee depends on users reporting bad sites to them, so if the site hasn't been reported you may be the first to have a chance to report it. One thing for sure what you're using now isn't working.
Now my disclaimer, I'm not a proponent of Micro soft, in fact my opinion is that it's system is a Kludge wasting processor cycles, with too many sub programs running in the background that are never used, and the interlinking of the programs and Operating system is a disaster at best that hogs memory and squeeks through as being an operational system. However it gets the job done for me. However the Vista program is one I'll never have on my PC, I will bite the bullet and go to the Mac's.
finally got some wiring cleaned up and run a few trains. Have 4 mainline locos in the loops with 2 more to go. Added another siding to the yard and now realize I'll have to go DCC to do what I want to do in regard to switching.

Cheers from Central Nova
Willis :)

Yes AVG is supposed to be pretty good also, at least a lot of internet users support it. I didn't know about AVG when I got wind of Avast and as I'm very satisfied with it's performance I'll stick with it. It's the same version as they sell for commercial use maybe minus a few bells and whistles. I note it also checks my incoming and outgoing email.

Will be doing some more wiring tonight and maybe add a couple more locos to the main loops. Probably should clear up an area and take a photo for the weekend thread
Cheers from Central Nova
Willis :)

Ray

this looks good, they do a good deal, buy now and pay in six months with no intrest

Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch 2.4GHz

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

1440 x 900 resolution

2GB memory

200GB hard drive

8x double-layer SuperDrive

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM

And to take my mind off PC's, i started a building job out the back, i'm making a BBQ down the garden, i have around 400 + bricks left over from the house extension so they are being used to make a super barbie, it'll be a monster, around six feet tall with a six foot chimney on top of that, and it snowed while i was doing it. I am off work in a few days while the wife has a knee op so i'll get it finnished then

I'll stay clear of the Mac vs. PC, but I entirely agree with Willis on Nortons. I had the Internet Security pack and not only did it load down my 2.5 desktop, it also was cumbersome to setup and even got into business I didn't want it to. I replaced it with the free McAfee Security Center from Comcast and have been happy since.
I do need some help though: I need a good Freebee Anti-Spam software to run in Micosoft Outlook. That was the one thing that Norton's did well, block Spam. Got any suggestions?

Afteroon All ! From Sunny Buffalo , 2 days in a row of sun. Something must be up ! Enjoying every minute of it . Maybe winter has finally left us . Tom congratulations to the boys also . I put the avast software on and ad-aware was already on, i binned mcafee today in favour of avast, it found 8 virus's that macafee missed, still running like a bag of rusty spanners though

Howdy, howdy, howdy.....

Just got home from the Mall Show. Pretty slow day actually. They usually do this event a month earlier, and a lot of people must have used the beautiful weather today to do some lawn and garden work. It was fun to see acouple of the councilors from camp and just sit back and run the powerpoint presentation for the day. (Actually the presentation ran itself and looped. All I had to do was set up the equipment and watch it run.....) First day in several weeks that I have just relaxed and done almost nothing. I think I needed it!

Got home to find an e-mail from the MRR working with me on the electrical certificate. He has approved the paperwork and copied his e-mail to the Regional Director (who lives in Canada) to see if when he gives final OK after he visits my layout and checks everything out the paperwork can be scaned and e-mailed to him.

Steve that Mac sounds like it should do the job well no matter what you throw at it! My newish laptop is the MacBook, Dual 2GHz, 1 gig Ram, 80 Gig of HD and has the superdrive. It more than does the job on the road and I do a lot of high res graphics and movies on it. I have it mostly for DJing but it goes to camp with me. It has been suggested that I should put Traction on it (similar to ProTools) for sound recording and eliminate the HD recorder I lug around when I do on location recording. With a separate 500 Gb HD it would more than do that. The problem is doing one that way to make sure it works for me. On location live recording, you don't get a second chance!

Steve did you do a scan on a boot up? thats where it will catch them.
Just right click on the Avast icon, a menu will pop up and select the second choice from the top "Start Avast Anti Virus" when the Avast control panel shows on the screen, a user guide will appear with it you can close it or read it then close it. At the upper left corner of the control panel, there is an arrow head image, click on that. A menu will appear, from it select "Schedule Boot-Time scan" click that. Then the options menu will appear I select "Scan the selected path ; C:\ ; move infected file to chest then theres a choice about conformation, then click on schedule. The scan will start on the first boot up, and before the restore gets loaded the scan starts, that's how it catches them and removes them. A file moved to the Chest is disabled, however it can be restored if a mistake is made. In the set up I hope you selected to run "Tea timer" if not don't worry it can be started later this is the prog that checks for virus on other web sites then warns you.

Let us know how you make out.

Willis

Good Morning Bill ! Another beautiful day here in Buffalo ,high near 56 and sun. Can't beat that . Getting read for our trip to Orlando so lots to do. Coffee , Flo and out the door. Hope everyone has a nice day!!

Good morning folks

It was a chilly 41 F as I headed out this morning. Our high today is supposed to be in the lower 50s. We do have the chance of some rain. This weekend’s weathered was all fouled up. Saturday was supposed to be rainy and Sunday sunny. Well, Saturday was a great day and Sunday was rainy and cold. As a result of the weather my son’s Little League photos were done but my daughters were postponed.

On Friday night we went out to dinner for my birthday which was on Thursday. I had a birthday email from Famous Dave’s Barbeque that said come in and check the prize number to see what you won. I won a free Great American Barbeque Feast. It is a meal for 6 people, two racks of ribs, a whole chicken, a 1/2 lb of beef brisket and a bunch of sides. It was a $57.00 meal for free! We are still working on the leftovers.

We worked in the yard some. My wife bought a new arbor to replace the one we have. I put it together and now it has to be painted before we can put it in place.

We also did some vacation planning. Right now we are planning to head north to Maine. Of course the last time we tried Maine we wound up in Orlando. I spent much of the weekend trying to find responsible hotels central to what we want to do. Also spent time trying to find places to stop on the way since this will be a driving vacation.

No modeling got done over this weekend. I did, however, finish inputting the boxcars into the computer inventory. This finishes the rolling stock. Next is the passenger equipment and locos. I also have a big pile of unbuilt and unweathered stuff on the workbench that I did not enter. I currently have weathered and ready for running on the layout 229 freight cars, MOW cars, and cabooses.

Tom congratulations to the boys.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all!

Here in Central Indiana we're supposed to be looking at a beautiful day out there. 70 degrees and sunny! Too bad I'll be stuck in this office all day. Oh well, I had fun yesterday. We had my parents come over and we grilled out in the back yard by the lake. It was about 67 degrees and we just sat out there and ate, talked, and watched the sun go down over the lake. It was quite nice!

So today I'm doing the work thing, how about you?
