Good evening gang! Flo, I'd like an Alan Jackson Special, "tall n' strong"...

I'm depressed. None of my friends will be in Philly the day I do my presentation, and I myself can't be there the following weekend when everybody else is! [Going on a vacation trip with two other families, lots of back-and-forth planning involved, couldn't avoid the conflict :( ] This is probably the last National Show that wouldv'e been close enough for me to attend, next one will be too far away to afford plane tickets and lodging. My attitude has gone south, don't feel very motivated to do anything model-train-related at the moment.

(Sorry about the rant.)

Flo, I'll have the same to drink along with my friend Ken.
Ken, are you saying that you are not going to do the presentation at all or just can't do it the last weekend? You said, "...wouldv'e been close enough for me to attend..."

Heck, Ken! Don't let it get you down. Maybe you are just tired and the letdown is just affecting you more than it should. Take a good break.

If Grande Man would have borrowed the company jet like I asked him to do and CJcrescent fly it, we would have been there for you. We would have had to leave here early because CJ probably would have stopped over to visit NZKen and Steve on the way. ;) :D

Not to worry Rex, I'm still doing the presentation, but that's on Thursday afternoon (when nobody's going to be there). Everyone I've spoken with is going on the weekend when they even let non-members in. I was just having a bi-polar moment when I made the previous post.

I just read in the Kalmbach coffee shop, another friend of mine who was sheduled to go, had to cancel his trip because of flooding in his basement:eek: :( Had to start his vacation 3 days early, so he could do the necessary cleanup/repairs. Then he has to return to work early to earn the extra money to cover the repair bills.

Nothing like a good dose of perspective...

Glad you are still going. To make a presentation at the Nationals, is quite an achievement and I'm sure you will do well...regardless of who's in the audience.
;) ;) :)

KenLIf you are around in 2012 Indianapolis muight be have the National NMRA convention and Train Show. We are in the process of putting together a bid for the convention now. If I remember correctly a couple of members are going to Philly to do a presentation na dstart getting the formal bid ready. If that is close enough then you still have a good chance of attending a National Show.

Hey Ken, I sure wish I was able to make the convention. Would certainly like to see your presentation and meet you in person. Unfortunately I will not be able to be there either. Hope you will put up your presentation somewhere on-line so we all can see it! Hope all goes well for you and know that a lot of us wish we could be there.

Ray... Where's my apple fritter?!? And don't tell me you don't know:mad:

Oh and give your beard another shake would ya:rolleyes:

KenL: I'd love to see your presentation but Philly is a bit of o range for me at this point. I start cleaning Dad's next week getting it ready for market as the designer has given us a cost for the addition and it looks like it's a go.

Well time to let the dog in, speaking of which had her to the vet yesterday and after 3 months she's 23.5 lbs. That works out to be a 1/2 pound of growth a day:eek:

Now if she would stop leaving deposits in my work shop. With all this rain it's unerving stepping in a warm puddle in the basement.

Mornin' Fergie! Ask and thou shalt receive! Bill had to wait 'till they were done. Enjoy them!

Mornin' Bill!

Last Thursday I went out to our Church Camp as a committee member and music director/counselor to get CPR and AED training. Took my little Kodak 3.1 Easy Share camera with me to get some photos of camp for promotion. Went to turn it on and it wouldn't kick on. Changed the batteries.... wouldn't turn on. Found some other batteries ...... wouldn't turn on! My camera DIED!. So, today I have to go spend some money on a Canon Digital Rebel XT...... I have been drooling at the sight of them for some time now. Well I will have a new camera for camp (and weekend photo fun) this year. What I won't have is much new RR stuff for a while I guess.

Later!

Oh Boy! Fritters. Thank you Bill! thank ya! thank ya! Ok, I'll leave you one, Fergie.

Ray: Sorry about the loss of your Camera, but it sounds like your going for a good upgrade.

Steve: The boys in the Northeast US have been catching all the rain...including ours. It has only rained here about three times in the last two months. Everything is getting parched. We had a temp of 100deg F. yesterday with the same expected today. The only thing that helped was that our humidity was only around 40%.

KenL: Along with what Steve said, you will have plenty of friends here for your presentation. Looking forward to it.;)

I Missed a steam fan trip today but Don Burgess caught it on video, here it is, Turn up the volume for this storming run

Rex we had it about 88f today and the hydrometer is at 50%, not sure if it's reeding correct though,,,

We are out of the football world cup, Portugal beat us on penalties

3 large apples
Juice of 1 lemon
3 tablespoons sugar, plus sugar for dusting
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, separated
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon melted unsalted butter
Peanut oil for frying

1. Core and pare the apples. Cut them into slices 1/3-inch thick and place them in a bowl. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, more or less, and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Toss well and allow to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
2. Sift the flour and the salt together into a medium bowl. Keep the sifter nearby for the final presentation. Make a slight hollow in the center and add the egg yolks, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1/4 cup of the water. Mix with a wooden spoon, then add the rest of the water and the butter, beating hard and pressing the batter against the bowl to break up lumps.
3. Pour 3 inches of oil into a stockpot or Dutch oven and place over medium heat. Beat the egg whites stiff, then fold them into the batter. When the oil has reached 365° , dip each apple slice into the batter, allowing excess to drain off before dropping them into the oil. Do not crowd the pot and keep the temperature between 350° and 365° . Cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with sifted sugar.

Mornin' Bill! Gotta try the recipe. Sounds like a good one for camping.

Well......... Went to Circuit City yesterday. Knew exactly what I wanted.....
The people working there were very helpful and knowlegable. Said, "yep we've got two of them in stock. Looked through the locked case where they keep them. Nothing! The kid in charge of the department told the other clerk to go out to the storeroom and they would be right on the first shelf....... He came back about 10 minutes later said they couldn't find it. I started to sniffle a bit. Finally, the store manger was called in and he went out back to look after said we have several that just came in, we can't be out of them. He rearrived about 5 minutes later with the camera in hand! I got on my knees and said, "Thank You! Thank You! THANK YOU!!!
Managed to get several discounts (the clerks worked the total three different ways to give me the best deal). Soooooooo! I have a brand new Canon OES Digital Rebel XT 8 megapixal camera to play with. Hope to figure it all out enough to post something on the WPF later today.

Gotta get to church as I am an usher today. Later!

Hey gang, hope everybody's enjoying their weekend so far...

Thanx alot guys for all the chinups about the presentation, I know I got a lot of great friends here in the EtherWorld. I just got dissapointed because I thought I'd be finally meeting a few forum friends in-person, but they've all been cancelling their Philly trips one after another. I've been doing "dry runs" of the presentation, culling some of the under-construction slides. I found that most of my 'yakking' was occurring on these, and not leaving enough time to show all the finished-layout photo slides.

Ray - glad you got a replacement for your camera, sounds like a great one! Mine is a 2yr-old relic, the Digital Rebel EOS (6 Mpx). I think you'll be quite pleased with what you got, it might even take photos large enough to submit to MR! Your store experience reinforces my attitude of never trusting online availability information before making the 45-minute drive - I always call and make sure they set one aside with my name on it. (It drives the store clerks crazy I admit, but for a purchase that size I don't think that's too unreasonable to ask...)

Fergie - If I remember correctly, I believe Leghome once succeeded in getting Bill T to speak [other than his usual four words] - he corrected Larry by saying he's an engineer or signalman for NorfolkSouthern [not a restaurant owner].
[LATER EDIT:] Ooops I spoke too soon - Fergie you DID it, got Bill to talk!

Steve - is Don Burgess a local friend of yours? I notice you frequently have links to his videos of the same steam railfanning trips you go on most weekends.

Excuse me now, while I get myself and my kids ready for Sunday Mass...

I am, indeed, a Construction Gang Lead Signalman (until Jan. '08, anyway.) for the Norfolk Southern on the NS Western Region (East). Off the 'net, some say I talk too much. ;)

Ken L don's an internet icon when it comes to train stuff, he's out there in the thick of it almost every day whatever the weather, i think that's got to do with him being ex Merchant Navy, he's just retired
this is his photopic web site showing all his old ships he's worked on
