Hello-

Got to run around this afternoon to pick up some more blue stuff from home desperate and remind myself check on all supplies--that way I'm not stuck in the middle of something and can't do a dang thing!:eek::eek:

Tom I'm with Ken on this one. The child had it coming but I'm left with ---where was/is the Father? This sounds really tragic for all concerned.

Rex Having a grandson in the military would be something to be proud of.:):) I tried to get into the military but what with my health issues even back then--no go. Otherwise I'd be doing the exact same thing.:)

Well back to the trainroom to see if'n I can't get some of this stuff laid down before we have our good ol' fashioned t'storms go rolling through again---rainin' pretty hard now---

Phil, we have two Boston Terriers and a Weimy. With the carriers, the better half would have to ride on the handle bars. Besides, I want a hack. Been pleading for one for the last three bikes. Don't cut my legs out from under me by offering me links to carriers. Agree with me that I need a sidecar. Us fellas got to stick together when dealing with the females of the species.

Dude! Now that I have the rest of the story, YOU SO CLEARLY NEED A HACK!!!!

(There, hows that?)

WE GOT'S RAIN!

I'm banking on two Cat 1 or 2 named hurricanes to hit Florida this year and 2 Tropical Storms to hit florida too:)

Welcome ScrewJack, my name (Vato Loco) matchs my rep:rolleyes:;) I'm a Crazy dude:D! I've been left out in the hot, hot, hot sun for way to long with out water:eek: As larry said, I'll buy you coffee and snacks!:) Little does he know I boosted his CC!:D
I'm the life of the party now that I got's Larry's CC

Tom, that's tragic about that problem cub scout. Sounds like his mom is in over her head, and too burned-out to react anymore. Where is this boy's father, I wonder?
Tom I'm with Ken on this one. The child had it coming but I'm left with ---where was/is the Father? This sounds really tragic for all concerned.

We have never seen the father. As a matter of fact the father has never been mentioned. The child’s last name is the same as the mother.

This is way beyond just discipline. There are issues going on and the child needs professional intervention. I keep wondering why the school has not done something but then I remember the stupid laws in this state prevent teachers from suggesting medical options to the parent. I know from personal experience with my own son. We recognized a problem and sought medical help. Once we took the initiative then the school could get involved.

I have never seen such rage in a child. I fear that at some point he will “lose it” and then there will be a terrible incident. I truly fear that one day I will pick up the paper and find him on the front page. As a friend of the mother both my wife and I on numerous occasions suggested she take him to the pediatrician and have him evaluated. All we ever got were assurances that she was doing it or going to do it. In the meantime he just gets worse and worse.

I had two interesting conversations this evening. First one was with the only remaining den mate’s mother. She expressed to me how at times she feared for her child’s safety and the boy’s mother. She described several more incidents that occurred in the den meeting room. The boy never got violent with her son but she feared it could some day.

The second was with another den mate’s father who stopped coming two months ago. He would not talk to the boy’s mother who was the Den Leader. This man and his son were extremely gung-ho about scouting. For them to just disappear was strange. After I told him that the boy was no longer with the pack his attitude changed and I could almost see the relief in his face. He wanted to know about all the trips and camping we are doing this summer and how to sign up for things. While he never came out and said it I am now sure it was the issues with the one scout that was keeping them away.

The last two conversations convinced me that we did the right thing for the pack. I still hope that the mother wakes up and gets aggressive and gets the boy the help he desperately needs.

Good morning.

It's 69 and partly cloudy. The high will be around 90 and there's a small chance of thunderstorms.

I have to go see the foot doc this afternoon. That means I'll have to cut the grass this morning due to rain coming in tomorrow. Yesterday I finished the SD27J and installed the decoder then gave it a test run around the layout. I still have to make the decals for it but that's a minor matter. The U30C is next on the list of locomotive projects. I don't see much getting done on the layout today.

OBTW: My wife Operation has been moved up to next week! so next week I might not be around as much......................but, I will be back! your thoughts and prayer's for her would be welcome

Hope everything goes well with the operation.

Well, it's back to work for me today. I have a ton of paperwork to catch up on:(

I did get about halg of my roadbed laid yesterday, turned out okay for a newbie (if I dod say so myself). Might be able to get the other half down latoer tonight. Man, it amazing how much quieter that stuff makes the trains!:D, I had no idea it would make that much difference...

Guess I will get myself to work, you folks have a great day. I might check in at lunch time...

Chris I would not use that CC if I were you we do not have any CC's. As for the keys you can have them we moved and left no forwarding address and the new owner is a life member of the NRA and said he will shoot any strangers caught trespassing. The Kubota is now safe and ready for me to jump on and start mowing as soon as the rain lets up.

Good morning folks

It was 58 F and raining as I headed out this cloudy morning. High today will be 75 F with a chance of thunderstorms.

My son had a baseball game last night and I stopped by the Cub Scouts and their den meetings for a little while. I had to explain what happened with the scout to the mother of one of the scout’s den mate. She seemed very relieved that the boy was not coming back. I also spoke to the parent of another scout from the den, who had stopped coming. Again there was relief and he seems like his son and him are going to get back in scouting. He wanted information on all our upcoming events. This seems to confirm our fears that the boy was driving people away and that we did right by the pack.

Maybe soon I will get some modeling in.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning gang!
60 degrees and drizzling....ewwwww!:( At least I did manage to get the yard cut yesterday. For the last few years, the big Deere has had an electrical issue. The generator would charge, but barely. Every once in a while I would have to put the battery on a charger for an hour or so. So a few weeks ago I , on a whim, replaced the voltage regulator. After starting the engine, the amp guage looked like it might be charging , but barely. Well yesterday I glanced down and was pleasantly surprised to see her pushing a full 10 amps whole mowing. I flipped on the headlights, the guage dipped then returned to the same state of charge! Yippee, we are fixed!!:D
Kinda makes the bloody finger and the aggrevation of doing it worth it!
I'm still waiting for the rest of the Parts for the Ranger. I picked some up yesterday, but had to reorder some seals. Wrong ones! I guess I should expect this, buying parts for a truck that is older than the guy behind the counter!!!
Welcome Tony, the decor ain't much, and the coffee can be a little strong at times, but the conversations are worth the price of admission!
Ken, I feel for ya! Orphan Creek has been a 2 steps forward, 1 step back deal from the inception! Progress is s-l-o-w !
Rex & Bob God bless every one of the grandsons, nephews, Godsons and the like over there. They are in our thoughts and prayers daily. Someday soon they will return home safely. Shake their hand and give them a hug from me when they do, will ya?
Tom You did the right thing for the Scout group. Hopefully the Mother will take this and think about getting help for her boy.
Chris Hope everything goes well for the wife, and that soon she is home cracking the whip on you! Lord knows you need it from time to time!:D

Well gotta run, this coffee has gone right through me!!!!!

True and accurate statement, but I was surprised.

Then, Rex chimed in...... I guess that makes it official! Phillip and I will have to start a prayer vigil every evening for Chris' wife. Might even throw in some other folks' names if we think they need it.

Any others you want to add? Besides Jim?

Afternoon, everyone.

Haven't been around much lately but did survive the great Bunco inspection and we are now accumulating all the stuff we need for our Bahamas trip. Spent the equivalent of two more Atlas Gold locomotives on everything from snorkel gear to sunblock. Man, these vacations get expensive!

Chris, glad you finally got some of the rain. We had an early morning thunderstorm yesterday but it's been pretty dry since the big rains last week. Looks like that may change over the next few days as we get more unstable air and a weak front. I'll add my prayers for your wife's speedy recovery. She'll need her strength just to keep you in line. :D The only way I could do a 20 mile bike ride now is if someone towed me behind the car.

Rex, glad to hear your grandson wasn't seriously hurt in the IED incidents. I sure hope we develop an exit strategy out of there soon. With Pakistan devolving into a civil war, I don't think we have any long term prospects for success. The British fought in Afghanistan for 100 years and the Russians for 10 and both got out. At some point, that rathole is not worth another American life.

Karl, I'd love to use the old sledge on that headlight but there's nothing to hammer on. It's a 2006 Grand Vitara and the headlight mounting is very simple. The bulb is held in by a spring clip and that's it. The bulb fits into an opening in the rear of round lense. I'm sure there's a way to adjust it but I haven't had time to research it yet. Our local Dodge/Suzuki dealer just went belly up so I'll have to take it 20 miles away to Montgomery if I can't figure it out. The dealer literally walked away from the place Tuesday and put up a sign in the door saying they were closed permanently. There are still a few cars on the lot but I suspect he probably was so far behind on payments that he lost nothing by just walking away. Nothing to worry about, though, the economy is recovering. "rolleyes:

Tony, welcome to Flo's. Keep an eye on Chris. He's well known for lifting wallets and then being the big spender here for a week or so. Flo has trouble keeping the food coming if Chris has someone else's credit card. :)

Tom, it sounds like you did the right, if difficult, thing with that poor kid. I wish there was a way to get the schools to recognize this kind of antisocial behavior early and get him some counseling and even medication if that's what it takes. It would be nice if the mother would take some responsibility but it sounds like she probably has enough trouble keeping herself together. That kind of aggressive, violent history was so common in teenagers I arrested for serious crimes. I fear for his future as well if nothing is done.

Larry, Chris is pretty tricky when it comes to getting keys and credit cards. Don't underestimate his cunning. He seems to have way to track you down even when you try to hide. Just ask Rex. :D

BOC, it looked like you had a pretty honkin' front go through yesterday. The remnants of that front are supposed to set off some storms for us the next few days. Nothing looks too organized so I think it will be just hit and miss thunderstorms.

Ken, I know it would have eaten at you if you didn't get that street just right so I guess tearing things up and fixing it now is better than the ulcers later. I have a couple of places that I did when I first building the layout that I really don't like now. I'm thinking of starting some downtown renovation but I think I'll decide what to do while laying under a palm tree next week.

We leave from Montgomery at 9 am Sunday. I've got the two girls, who have never flown in a puddle jumper, that our plane is an AN-2 biplane like this one:
Antonov_An-2_9.jpg

I told them it was no problem because we fly so low the pilots just follow Interstate 85 to Atlanta. :p And, believe it or not, there's a small subtropical low that has formed between Cuba and the Bahamas that looks like it has some potential to develop into a tropical depression by next Tuesday, affecting the Bahamas and Florida. I haven't told my wife yet because she will kill me. I really do start to wonder about my luck and vacations though.

Rats, I missed way too much to respond to everyone...again. I thought I was supposed to actually have some extra time when I was retired?. I did get a chance to clean up the layout during Bunco night and get a few pictures so I have something to post tomorrow.

Hi all,

This will only be a drive-by post since I'm still at work. Don't have time to talk to everybody individually. I won't have any time to work on my mrr project tonight since my 13yr-old daughter's class is putting on a play, and she has a starring role. It's based on a story of the 1930's, should be interesting.

Tony - I don't actually live in "Bawlamer", I just put that as my location because it's the closest city that people will recognize. My town is Woodstock, ~10 miles west of Baltimore, and ~1 mile from the former B&O [now CSX] Old Main Line.

Jim - best of luck with the weather and that planned vacation.

Karl - I'll have to swing by your place soon and pickup that spare module frame one of these days. (Or maybe you could bring it to the fcsme meeting on May 30?) I'm designing my business district where the buildings and streets won't be permanently attached, so I can also use them on a module if needed.

Back to work now, C-U-L :D
