Got home from out of town client visit----now I've got to see if I can finish some detailing of atrium and lighting issues

Back into the room with me-----:D:D

Evening.

Things have gotten bad around here. Within the last 4-5 hours I have gotten incredibly sick. Fever (don't know how high though), chills, and muscle aches. Looks like the flu for me.

Horrible because I have classes all day tomorrow, include a huge presentation, a story due, and review for a midterm. Oh joy.

I imagine many of you have seen this, but it is so funny:
COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store.
Can I
help you?
COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?
COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?
ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?
COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?
ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT: Software for Windows?
COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?
ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?
ABBOTT: I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?
ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?
ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?
ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?
ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!
ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO: I already have an office with
windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?
ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?
ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?
ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue "W".

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue "w" if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?
ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?
ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?
ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?
ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?
ABBOTT: Yes No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my
computer? How much?
ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?
ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?
ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

A few days later.

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I
help you?
COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?
ABBOTT: Click on "START"..... .......

Rex
Funny stuff!

Reminds me of a thing that went around a few years back, about if GM built a car like Dell builds a computer.

To start you press start,,,,,To stop, you also have to press start. (?)

After pressing start, you would have to wait several minutes before it actually was operational.

It would have windows, but they cannot be rolled down,

It comes with 104 keys,

It would crash with no warning to the operator.

It would be capable of performing illegal operations by itself (honest Officer!)

The list went on and on........:D

Thanks for sharing.

:eek:Flo!

Get Sparky a hot toddie mucho pronto please!

The tea will help your fever, the lemon soothes the cough, and the whiskey makes you not worry about all the stuff at school tomorrow!:D

Hope ya feel better, but don't send it my way!

Karl, Dell is a dirty four letter word in this house! Two Dell's and nothing but trouble, and the service sux's! I only heard of one person that liked there Dell. Now there commercial stuff is a little better but plauged with the same problems just doesn't happen as much....so my wife says. If Dell was a car manufacture Yugo would be a better car manuacturer than Dell!LOL's

Good Morning --we're going to a high of -1C today while tomorrows high will go all the way up to 9C!!:D:D On Friday it will go to 15C!!:D:D but with rain:(

Chris The Dell laptop I use hasn't given me any issues in the 2.5 years I've had it--we upgraded it twice--never any issues.:confused::):)I'm glad you said Yugo in your case---Trabant would have been much worse!!!:D:D--the body panels being recycled plant fibre and all----:rolleyes::eek:

Sparky When having a rum toddie I'd wrap myself up in a quilt or comforter and sweat it out----those things be gone overnight!!:)

RexHea LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D

Well, I've got meetings to run off to this morning---have a good'un!!

Good morning

Chris - put me down for one of those ECI tee-shirts! Loved the fine print on the whale poster...

Dan, that's rough man - probably all the stress weakened your immune system. I'll pray for you to get thru this somehow.

Rex, I remember that Abbott & Costello routine from somewhere, always worth reading again! Have you guys dug out from the snow yet?

My daughters' schools both declared a 'snow holiday' - not a day off, but set aside 2 hours in the afternoon for the kids to have fun in the snow (sledding, etc). Then it's off to the orthodontist with Catherine - poor girl is having her braces installed this afternoon!

Not much to report on the mrr front, other than I got some more window frames painted on my Merchants Row I.

Morning Gang!
Flo, howabout some coffee and and a slice of that Chocolate cake for breakfast!
Chris, Yes, Dell is a four letter word here too! No only did I get royally screwed by Dell Financial years ago (settled in a class action lawsuit) but I still have that relic around. Its a 750mhz Pentium III, it should fly, but it just stumbles along.:( My oldest stepson does computer repair for a living, and he couldn't make it any better. The computer that I am on is a 650mhz Pentium III that flies on the web and can handle me working in Corel Draw and Word at the same time, plus listening to streaming music on the web. The only difference? It's a Compaq, and it is fast approaching its 10th birthday!!!! Memory and everything else are equal between the two, but one simply outperforms the other. Go figure!
Ken, I remember braces well! Not only myself, but the next to the youngest boy (now 18). I remember the retainers, the rubber bands, the discomfort after getting adjustments, but most of all, I remember the pain in my right rear pocket after every visit! OUCH! I feel your pain buddy!
Its still cold outside, but the birds are chirping and the weatherguessers say it's gonna get to 38 today, and climb to 57 by Saturday. I might wash the truck today, since 4-wheeling in the snow may be fun, but it gets messy! I'm looking forward to the weekend temps, cuz the paint line at the shops is getting long since the temps dropped. 2 locos,3 cabooses (cabeese?)and 2 passenger cars are waiting for paint. Might be more by Saturday!
Thats enough for now, man that cake was good! Can I get some more coffee Flo??

Good morning folks

It was 15 F this morning as I headed out into the frozen tundra that is the Delaware Valley. High today will be 33F. Supposedly we have a thaw coming at the end of the week.

Not much to report on any front today. Last night was mundane around the house other than my daughter’s flute lesson. No modeling got done.

We have Cub Scout den meetings tonight.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 44° and clear. The high should be around 70° and it will be partly cloudy.

Made my trip to DeRidder yesterday to turn in my defective shoe for repair. It'll be ready in a week. I also dropped in on the Wal-Mart there and picked up several of the 1/87 Hot Wheels cars as they were on sale for $1 each. I got a Mustang GT, a Bone Shaker and a VW Beetle (old). One will be featured each day for the remainder of this week in my photo link at the end of my morning post and in the photo Fun thread, starting today with the VW Beetle. Upon getting back home I joined my parents for dinner, chicken pie with creamed corn, cabbage and home fries with cornbread to top it off. I'll be working with my father this morning to get a bunch of pine straw picked up and put onto the burn pile. It needs a good burn. Maybe this afternoon I can get back to the observation car. I need to cut the holes in which to place the cargo doors.

Man! 31 degrees now, but later, mostly sunny, with a high near 47. And the next few days? 60's almost the whole way! Comes with a little rain, but I can deal with that. It means that nicer days are not far ahead!

Now if I can just shake this nasty cough!

So whats up with you?

Good morning everyone.

Feeling a little better today. Throat isn't as bad, but my head is still pounding and my muscles really ache. No fever.

I still decided to play it safe and stayed home. I don't need to be passing this on. Plus probably isn't safe to drive.

Time to move out to the living room with the laptop, make some tea and lunch, and lay around all day.

Thanks for the wishes.

Bill- You are going to get slapped the way that steamer is blowing up the waitresses skirts!!:D

I have only had enough time the last week or so to skim the posts of some threads and not reply. Completely unlike me.LOL

I am trying to build an electronic file of vintage billboard material and ads for the 50's. I found a couple good sites and have gotten lots of car ads.

It will be a **tch to organize, and it is only 568 meg so far. I'll be able to cut some old magazine ads down to make 10' x 20' billboards. Others, I can use for reference for colors and style.
I have found a good many different Sante Fe ads from the 40's, 50's and 60's that I can use. Sante Fe is about 60% of the railroad ads I have found so far.

Darn! Another email about work! Guess I shouldn't complain since it supports my model train habit and my table muscle.

Chris: I have had my high end Dell Dimension 8200 desktop for six years with never a problem and had excellent support for questions when in warranty. Maybe it's certain models??? My next will probably be a Dell desktop.

KenL: Snow? Well, we had 2-4 inches of actual accumulation around the county. It snowed from the wee hours of the morning until about 11:30.... by 2:30PM, the sun was out and there wasn't snow anywhere:D. It sure was nice seeing while it lasted; the entire neighborhood was out walking in it. Fun!

I've been getting ready for our camping trip tomorrow morning. We will have unbelievable weather with temps in the upper 70's and lows around 50. We will come back Sunday, so see ya'll then and hope you are having the very BEST of it all...get well soon Sparky! :)

When it comes to computers I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed:rolleyes: But I had a Gateway a while back and got 5 years out of it before a worm took it out! My Dell lap top and desk top both had major problems. Now these arn't low end models either! The lap top is a XPS m140 and the desk top is a Dimension e510. the computers are 2 years old. the desk top has had 2 mother boards replaced and 3 hard drives. and now the cd drive is on the fritz:mad: the lap top hasn't been as cursed as bad but it had it's mother board replaced once and the drive once when we first got it. the Lap top (knock on wood) hasn't gone down on me yet of over a year. Now the lap top has it's fair share of brain farts and shut downs for no reason but I can tolerate it. My sons computer....... Thing is garbage! More toubles than it's worth, The service is so..so.. If you can under stand the broken english:rolleyes:.

BOC, I'm glad to hear some people have had good luck!

I think Computers are like cars JMO. Some people are Ford people and some are Chevy, and some are what ever. Chevy has never left me on the side of the road yet! where as others I wouldn't hit a dog with:rolleyes: I just need to find me a comuter like my truck:D! Panasonic Tough Books.....Any one hear anything? Or Apples?

Ken, Now you see where I got my RR's road name from;) I should run nothing but smoking alcos!:D hauling cut trees!LOL's The tee's are cool this one I like: https://members.premiereinteractive.com/ows-img/glennbeck/pages/28585/41410_34370a.htm

Evenin' folks,

What a day! Been editing source code to prepare for an upgrade of a database I'm in charge of. Boring as h***, I was barely able to keep myself awake!

BOC - My family 'putor is a Dell, we've had it for 5 years. Got a service warranty on it and they had to send somebody out ~2 years ago to replace the motherboard, didn't cost me a cent! Only problem now is that it runs slower than a glacier with today's software. It's earmarked to become my DecoderPro/JMRI machine - as soon as I can convince the wife it's time to buy a replacement ;)

Ken, I remember braces well! ... ...the retainers, the rubber bands, the discomfort after getting adjustments, but most of all, I remember the pain in my right rear pocket after every visit! OUCH! ...
Karl, I found a way to minimize that pain for this year at least: My latest COLA raise for all of 2009, pre-tax, is almost exactly the amount we have to pay for this year's ortho work. So I put all of that into a Flexible Spending Account [where I can pay for med/dental procedures with pre-tax dollars] so I save ~30%, and the money doesn't hemorrhage out of my regular checking account! Now the question is, with the economy being as it is, will I get another COLA for 2010 to cover next year's ortho bills...?

Dan I think you did the wise thing by staying home, glad you're getting better.

Mikey - I've found old copies of National Geographic to be a great source for vintage ads, much of what you see in there would have appeared on billboards for that time period. I just scan them in and resize 'em to fit...

Phillip - glad your getting better!

Rex - have lotsa fun on your camping trip, looks like you'll be having perfect weather for it!

PSSSSST!....Hey Chris, now that Rex is going out of town maybe you can start deflecting all the blame over on him...!:D
