Conrail Quality
Someone on YouTube saw this track cleaning car on my layout and wanted to know who the manufacturer was. I cannot remember who made this car. Bought it at a train show back in the 90’s. I do remember the seller had them in other scales too. There is no markings on it. I ran an image of it through Grok and really didn’t get any useful info.

So , do any of you guy know who made these?

I had Grok do some digging on the Trackman 2000. Here is what it found:

Who made it

Henry Hefter designed, patented, and manufactured it himself. He started in N scale, moved to O, then to G scale when LGB products became popular in the US, and later produced versions in multiple scales including HO. He ran a small home-based shop in Temple, Pennsylvania, bought a mill and lathe to produce the parts, and shipped units across the United States and internationally.

The design is the one covered by his U.S. Patent 6,758,145 (filed 2003, issued 2004). The HO version uses the simplified spanning-frame + spring-supported weighted cleaning block layout that matches the photo you shared.

Production period

• Active roughly late 1990s through the mid-2000s (website references and copyright notices point to activity around 1999–2003 and later).

• Henry Hefter died in 2007. Production stopped around that time.

• His son Dennis later offered the patents and design drawings for sale.

Current availability

They are no longer in production.
