The E-Z Command track sets comes with a terminal track that allows you to plug the controller with into the track. You don't need to have have this. You can cut the plug off and solder the two wires directly to the track.
All track works with DCC, regardless of type. The only issue with switches is ones with powered frogs compared to plastic, unpowered frogs. Almost all beginners buy unpowered frog switches, and they will work fine with any DCC controller.
Thanks for everyones help i am going to go with Bachmann E-C command.
Thanks for the links, Willis. A fine discussion for one who is re-entering the hobby.
The top three are Digitrax, Lenz, and NCE. Digitrax and NCE offer lower cost starter sets that you can upgrade/expand. As for which is better, there have been many discussions on this forum and others. The old windows/mac arguement which has been done to death. Try before you buy, and see which you like best. You decide. Any DCC loco wiill work on any DCC system.
To answer your question about couplers, to the best of my knowledge different brands are compatible, however different stlyes are not, EX. horn-hook couplers like those found on life-like products are semi-compatible with knuckle couplers like those found on bachmann and most other model railroad companies. I say semi-compatible because, with a bit of a struggle they will connect, but they dont exactly stay coupled together and lets face it they look terrible.
Im an owner of the bachmann EZ command system and i have no complaints whats so ever. I ran an avg of 3 locomotives at a time with it without any problems, be sure to watch the DVD that comes with it, itll help alot.
