My grandchildren are on spring break. Yesterday the 4th grader and I went to Sacramento CA to see the historic Sutter's Fort as she is studying California History. We took the opportunity to visit the CA RR Museum and look at the exhibits there spending time with a docent and the transcontinental railroad.
Anyway, the NMRA set up an exhibit wing showing the usual scale size differences, a layout in progress to show technique and in accompanying glass cases the tools & materials used to create the scene. Walking through the exhibit the last section were dioramas. I couldn't determine but got the idea that these were not built as dioramas but were sections from dismantled layouts as the names of the builders had life dates, like so& so 1942- 2012, etc. Then we saw the complete MR magazine project layout San Juan Central. Complete, in a glass case. When I got home late last night was looking for info on an older MR article on the Northwestern Pacific (NWP) Tiburon CA Terminal. Well, you know the many rabbit holes you can fall into when researching something on the internet. I saw that the builder of the San Juan Central Malcom Furlough passed away two weeks ago.
