It is my Birthday today (71) so I thought I would be kind and give you all a picture of the scene I've been working on for a couple of weeks. The 'reach' scene. Now that I'm done with this, just some finishing touches inside the oval and then I will lay track. Jim
Happy Birthday, Jim! But you're doing it wrong -- we're supposed to give YOU the presents -- instead, you're giving US one -- a great image of a great scene, plus all the inspiration that goes with it.... (Just kidding on the 'doing it wrong' part -- but not kidding on the rest of this message!)....Thank you for all you contribute to this community.
Thanks for all the comments and kind words guys, means a lot to me.
Thing on the agenda: Making deciduous trees; making rocks my way; and reminding you all of a special happening come Jan/Feb next year. No announcement from me yet however. Of course you all can make guesses if you want. Jim
Thanks RR and dmir. The layout has come to a slow down because I failed to order enough ground covers from Scenic Express last time. Also, I'm not going to have enough flex track to complete this simple oval. I will order more next week. Scenery should arrive today or tomorrow. Jim
To make the trees you've see on this layout is an easy and enjoyable task.
First you will need to purchase sage brush. Buy the smallest size for HO and On30. I purchased the middle size and have had to cut down most of my trees. Price is very reasonable. Google Sage Brush trees to find the dealer. Second you need to purchase Super Trees and Super Leaf material from Scenic Express. Get a bottle 3M spray glue. Hairspray will NOT work for these trees. See first photo.
Next step is cut your Super Tree branches into two or three parts. These will be attached to the sage brush tree.
Spray the sage brush branches with the 3M spray glue. Just the branches if you can.
Nice Jim , the procedure looks easy and the finished product very believable , thanks for the tutorial . These trees and Chet's ( Montanan ) trees look very realistic .
Thanks Jim. To make the trees denser you only have to re-spray with the 3M and shake more 'leaves' on. I just wanted a drier climate tree so I only gave these one coating of leaves. Jim
