Here is the layout ready for transport to the UPS Store. I've shipped around 7 of the layouts and UPS has delivered them all with no 'injuries' to any of my work. One even when to Singapore. Jim
I love it. I only hope that i will be able to make mine look that good. I got some expert advice. I have been shown so i will try and duplicate it on my layout. Thanks for the lessons Jim See you later, Dan
Second announcement. Contest at 400,000 views. Only 10,000 to go. This time around there will be a tree prize. I now have many 'left over' trees. To the winner of the photo comparison contest will be either trees suitable for Z or N scale, or trees from my HO layouts. Total value of trees of either scale will be over $100. Not too bad? Jim
Cool! I can use lots of trees.... Jim, All is plastered. I am getting ready to do the rock cliffs. Not quite but almost. I had to fix a couple of places.
I did the rock faces and used Drywall mud for it. It looked good so after it was almost dry i started to carve it and had what i thought it would look good. So i started with a black wash over the top down and it just didn't work like i hoped. I'm not sure if the paint was too thin, (Like water), But it didn't pick up the cracks as i hoped. It did darken the rock surface. So not sure what i did wrong. Maybe use a thicker wash? I watched Jack43's video and thought i had followed it. I have the shots on the other site but i don't know if you would like me posting here. Dan
Probably better on the N scale site. Something I see you may not be doing. You must let the plaster completely dry before adding color or water. Sometimes this takes days. Patience. Jim
Yep, Could be it. I followed how Jack did it and it said 5 minutes.Maybe not such a good thing... But i will try this again now that it has dried a couple of days. Thanks, Dan
Just let me tell you something.... Making a river is NO fun!!!! Its like building a dam and then praying that no rain comes! Its 5 minites of sheer terror, followed by about a hour of complete madness!!! I got the first coat on and done. Still keep filling the little bubbles and little cracks that appear out of nowhere. Now i will have to wait for teh dumb stuff to dry so my water isn't a pale blue white mud..... Pics on the other site. And i have to do this what times???? All teh fun kidding aside it was something to see. You would laughed your bottom off!! Now if the dam don't break! Dan
Dan, you speak of the other site. Just where is this other site? Can you provide a link? I would like to see your pics as I will be pouring a river soon as well.
thanks, Bill
I just might have to start up a thread here too. I don't really want to as i am on two other forums already but may have to. It don't really matter what scale you are in as the different parts are the same when building. We also don't just have N scale. There are a few other scales on that site.I posted here as Jim has been trying to teach us all how to do things. He is one of the masters on the railroad front. He is also starting up another Model railroad in i think he said September or October. Come on over and check us out. Dan
