Brian, I checked out your photos. Nice. I don't understand problems with Photobucket however. Size of photos in Photobucked is not an issue. I take mine at full resolution/MPs and they load fine here. I'm guessing that a problem could be with how our computers are set up. Just guessing. Jim
Okay , looks like I figured it out. I think what was happening was I was copying the webpage link from the address bar on my computer rather than the link address provided over to the side on the Photobucket page for a particular link. I'm just not that computer savy, and my older age works against me.....ha...ha
Someone mentioned about small scenes. True, you can do a layout or even a module with little scenes. They in turn make up the whole. As long as scenic integrity is maintained in between these scenes then it is all good. Here's a photo I took a few minutes ago. I call this 'hidden things.' You would be surprise how long it takes folks to notice this and they enter the room within two feet of it. Jim
Brian, Go back to Post Number 719 on thread page 72. Read that announcement then compare the two photos. Find the five or six 'differences' and you win! I've had four or five of these since the start of the thread three years ago this New Year's Day. Check the photos and practice seeing if you can find the answers. Jim
Wow, where did all these views come from? Looks like we are well over 300,000 with a day still to go for this thread's 3rd anniversary. Thank you all for participating. So here's the deal. Tomorrow my Oregon Ducks play and I'm a football nut so I will be viewing every football game this weekend for sure. I will take the photos for the Contest today. I don't want to start the Contest until Saturday when most of you may be free. So let's say Saturday, 1400 PST, Saturday, January 3. This will be Sunday morning for our Aussie friends. More later. Jim
OFFICIAL 300,000 VIEWS CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT: The Contest will begin at 1400 PST on Saturday, January 3.
Here is a photo of the prize. This is a Bmann Spectrum DCC and Sound Consolidation 2-8-0. Street price is about $183. Yours for free if you win it. If someone outside of USA or Canada wins the contest I will ask you to pay shipping costs. I think this is fair, in that you won a brand new engine.
Friday I will post some thoughts on how to play this Contest; how to LOSE IT, and HOW TO WIN IT. Jim
Okay, most of us like contests and this one tomorrow has a pretty good prize. We've had a number of these photo contests so from observations I and others have made here is how to LOSE it and WIN it.
To lose this Contest do this: Figure out the changes and once you have four or five post them in this thread and hope you've done enough to win. Waaay WRONG! by posting as you go, you simply help all your competitors with four or five correct answers. I've noticed these fellow competitors never say thank you to your face, but they are laughing for sure. So, if you are a serious player, hold your water and get them all.
To win this Contest do this: Find the differences and write them down and check them all a second or a third time. Don't post your choices unless you have triple checked. Even then you should be looking for more differences. There will be more than 6 differences and less than 10. If there is not a winner by 2000 I will post the correct number of differences at 2000 PST, Saturday evening. So, if you are a serious player, don't post too early. Triple check.
Jim, why don't you have the contestants PM you with their guess/answers .. And stipulate that they cannot change once submitted.
That would level the playing field for everyone!
Sherrel, I was in a contest on a Z scale site. It was simple. Members voted secretly to the moderator on what was the 'best' photo! I didn't have a picture entered, but the winner was basically the 3rd best out of 5 entries. You should have heard/read the outcry. 20 or so members came out an said they voted for the photo that should have won. As there were only about 30 votes cast you can imagine the hysteria. Ultimately I, and a dozen others, left the group and it has since gone out of business.
I'm trust worthy, but some folks may think different when final outcomes are announced. Doing these contests out in the open and recording time stamps ensures everyone get a fair shake. Also, I sort of enjoy the fight to the finish. My way it is easy to find the winner and not have to do any explaining. Jim
Integrity is what it is all about here. If you enter a competition (of any type) you have to trust those who are going to determine the winners. If you don't, don't enter - pretty simple really.
Personally, I would say that there are very few people here (if any) who wouldn't/don't trust your decisions. I believe your track record proves that beyond reasonable doubt.
As you pointed out, 'secrecy' encourages 'suspicion'. Your way of doing things is so transparent it is the only way (in my humble opinion) of ensuring a fair and honest result. Aside from that, and because of the trust that we on the forums have in you, the members here seem more interested in participating in your competitions more for the fun of it, than to be winners, and possess the maturity NOT to sulk, whinge or bitch, if they don't win.
So, why have I not participated in your competitions? Simple - I have nothing worthy of entering compared to all other entrants
While I am at it though, good luck to all of the entrants and I don't envy your position Jim, having to pick the best from what I know will be entered.
Tony, Thank you for the nice words. As for the Contest I'm not sure you are following this correctly. You don't have to have anything to submit. Simply compare the two photos at 1400 today and make a guess. The last Contest I asked for photos submissions but not this one. Just wanted to clear any confusion up. Jim
