Okay, serious question/dilemma here and I need your help. As you've figured out On30 has slowly crept into my HO layout and this HO thread. Now that I'm 70 I feel every bit of that age and HO just seems to have become harder to handle, and well, in reality I'm probably just bored. I guess my question is, 'Should I just give up on this thread and start over in the O scale thread or do you mind if this thread just continues with On30 being the focal point?' I'm going through another heart procedure this week so I won't make any comments or replies for 3 or 4 days. Your thoughts. Jim

IMHO you should just stay with what works. You sort of designed this layout to work with both, so if it an't broke - don't try and fix it.
Staying here will give us the option of looking back in time at all the construction methods.

My 20 cents ... And good luck with your medical procedure.

Okay, I guess this photo says something about the state of affairs around here. No dissenters. Jim

Jim, the quality of your modeling and photography is supurb, scale hardly seems important. Please continue sharing with us on this thread, when you are able. You are in my prayers!

Thanks for the encouraging words fellows. So one we go. Keeping with the idea of refurbishing our layouts I will now have to deal with the right side of the layout. Basically, On30 being O, is quite a bit larger than HO scale. Some things will have to change. Here's a photo of the biggest problem, roads. The truck is 1:48 and our road, and tunnel about 1:87 or HO.

Not quite sure how to tackle this problem?

Next is what to do with the turntable, if anything. I have to redesign this section to fit in buildings that are frankly huge compare to HO counterparts. I'm thinking the long siding has to go for sure, then maybe some low land form between the mainline and the turntable to put buildings.

Between doctor's visits and thinking about refurbing this side of the layout I have been kitbashing a boxcar.

I'm making it a 'woodie' and an outside braced car. I bought a cheap boxcar, Bachmann, and decided to do this project while thinking about other things. I find that kitbashing in particular is good therapy and it seems to work for me. It is a nice, and in this case a challenging project.

Here's the 'builders' photo. I just took this about 5 minutes ago. About 20 hours on this car.

Bachman's doing wire grabs and separate ladders now? Wow, might have to give them another look. My old Silver Series had some of the most free/smooth rolling wheels around.

Excellent looking boxcar. Car looks 100 times better covered in the strip wood. Great idea to cover it. How thick is the wood you used? 1/64"?. It looks close to scale in your photo. Awesome job. Ron

If you hadn't put up the "before" photo, would never have realised this was a cladding makeover. Looks totally scratchbuilt. Sneaky.

Toot, Sneaking is good. I read once in a scenery book back when I was starting out that 'a good modeler's work is acceptable by most standards, but an excellent modeler is excellent by hiding his/her mistakes.' Another reason I tell all to keep adding to your scenery the more you cover, clad, the more realistic your result. I'm not going to clad the next car, I purchased two. I repainted it yesterday and will add it to the fleet. I am considering at least a kit boxcar in the future, but knowing me it will probably be scratch built. Jim:)
