What your thoughts on their 6-4-2?I'm reading reviews and see they had some problems with some of their Stream engines.I have an old layout with no sound, but would like a nice Stream engine for my grandson to have someday. The price is a little steep but the Bachmann I have is giving me trouble as is the RiverRossi Mallet, both early 90's.I wanted better quality.Just thought I see what others who have these think.Thanks,cjp53.

6-4-2? I don't think I've seen one, and can't find mention of it on their website. Do you have a photo or link?

I think he meant 4-6-2. Nice engine. I haven't heard anything bad about them.

I'm sorry, yes I did mean to type 4-6-2 thank you.I seen a review on their Mountain and there was some issues with the horn working only after the headlight was on,I also read a review about the steam engines made in China had all the problems. It said to look for the ones made in Korea. I really like the detail and hope someday to add sound to my layout. When I build my grandson a layout I'll add sound and update everything for him.

I'm not aware of any locomotives being made in Korea these days with the exception of a few high end brass imports. All of the plastic stuff is Chinese these days.

4-6-2? Dyslexia hell is.
Are you talking about their announced brass hybrid New Haven engine, or the Paragon 2 engine that came out a short time ago? The Paragon 2 engine is made in China. I haven't checked to see where the I-4 will be made, as $800 for a locomotive is a little steep for me.

I believe the company has two on the market, the Pennsy all-metal K4s, now in its third run...I think...and the new version geared for other railroads. I can tell you that the diecast version is excellent. I am not aware of problems with the other one, or even if it has actually been received and sold in numbers. I have seen none of them show up on their refurbished section.

I was looking at the Paragon 2 engines, the brass is way out of my price range. It's my fault that I did not see when the review was made.I been away from this hobby for 15 years and did go to the train show last month at the IX center in Cleveland.Broadway Limited had a display but I did not have a chance to look and ask questions as I had my grandson with me and he saw theThomas the train display.Grandpa could not say no and we headed over that way,so I never made it back.Things have changed so much while I've been gone when it comes to sound and smoke.I did see the live steam club that had their engines going, that was really fun to see, they looked to be G scale.I'm a member of a Model rocket club and have been flying Midpowered rockets for the last 5 years. One of our members works with a person that's in a live stream club East of Cleveland that has a large layout that gives rides and have sheds where they build and repair their engines.Looking forward this summer taking my grandson there for a visit.I'm open to any advice for good quality steam engines under $400.Please forgive any stupid questions on my part,I'm still learning. Thanks everyone.

Have ya seen the price of the J9000 now. It has been set back to next summer and the price has gone up a couple hundred. Those who have had an order in for them since several years ago, will get theirs at the original agreed upon price.

I found a nice one on Ebay at a really good price. It's pretty nice and runs well. However, I haven't used and abused it enough to know if it will hold up.

I seen one today on Ebay new for $174.79 plus shipping. Can't buy it at the moment but I think I would have if things were different. That's how things happen sometime. There will be another time.Good to here that others have nice things to say, can't always go by any review you read.I see how people react to different Rocket Manufactures, what is an easy build for one person might be a very hard build for another.Everyone's skill level is different.Mine can sure improve on many things I build.

Why do you think that brass is out of you price range? I would suggest that you look at the brass section on E-bay, and check the consignment sales at places like Brass Trains,
http://www.brasstrains.com/Classic/Trains/Scales/HO-Scale They have many engines for under $350. I would not look at the latest and greatest, like the models from Division Point, or Precision Scale Company, but older engines from PFM, Westside, NWSL,etc. Those engines are definitely more reasonable. The last engine I got off of E-bay was a Frisco 2-10-0 PFM, 2 runs from final run, and only paid $150.
It doesn't hurt to look!
