Quick background: I bought a set of damaged cars off ebay that included a Red Caboose 72' centerbeam that had 1 missing and 1 damaged truck. The trucks on these are set rather far in on the car and have a very long (probably an inch) extension to where the coupler is. I was thinking they both look dopey and also sag pretty badly, so this would be a good body mount candidate. My concern is that there's not really any material to drill into to utilize a mounting screw, the flat section and the vertical center beam are extremely thin and I'm not sure even a 00 screw will work without being visible from the top side.

I 3d printed a few "winged" coupler boxes that both center the coupler and provide a large pad on either side for the glue. Is this is a fools errand? Has anyone come up with a good solution for these cars? Should I just try to find replacement trucks?
