Why didn't they bring the Big Boy to stop over near the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento? Was it because of the too narrow curves near this area that the Big Boy can't run on? From what I understood, they made a stop at Roseville for an event, but why didn't they bring it in further south such as Sacramento?

My guess. Roseville has a decent sized RR yard with facilities. I don't believe Sacramento does.

My guess too. Don't think curves are an issue as they did get a Big Boy in the State Railroad Museum. Roseville would work as Dave stated although the SP Workshop ( a little East from the Museum ) might also work if the 1st slot in the building was clear. That transfer table is not long enough for a Big Boy to get anywhere else.

Been a few years since we have been there, but the Museum is a great place to wonder around. Ya, you can climb on most of the equipment in places where they want that. Have food and trinkets too.

Do maps.google.com and search for California Railroad Museum, then pan down and left a tad. Looks like there is a Challenger, Big Boy or other sitting next to the SP passenger station.

Oops, thought about it a bit - not sure if it is a Big Boy or Challenger in the Museum as the brain cells are not swimming in the same direction and have not found the pix we took while there. I just remember it being Big!

They have a Cab Forward per the website and 19 total steam but I cannot find a full listing. They do say the Cab Forward is the biggest steam they have

I drove over to Navasota, TX this morning to catch the arrival of the Big Boy. I was surprised when I noticed that the diesel locomotive was not part of the train today. Here's a link to my video of the arrival: Big Boy Arrival
