As the Whistle Stop RR makes it's way around the bar in my basement, I have been made keenly aware of a lighting issue as I have been working on ballasting and ground cover. Keep in mind that the layout is basically (going to be) a shelf layout that goes all around the room and will be anywhere from 30 to 42" off the ground and not more than 12" or so away from the wall (a possible industry/rail yard area would be an exception). The previous owners of the house built the bar and didn't really pay much attention to lighting, so the lighting isn't very good in the room to begin with (I'm working on that). BUT, my question is:

What would be the best way just to light the shelf itself and not have a whole lot of spill over into the rest of the room? It is a bar after all, and dimly lit is the standard for most bars.

Thanks for taking my call. I'll take my answer off the air. (I don't listen to talk radio too much, do I?)

Actually, the purpose of a dimly lit bar was to enhance the beauty of the women there. If that didn't work, more alcohol usually did.
As for you railroad, you really want light to be on the railroad, not on the back of your head to cast shadows on the railroad.
