KCS Southern Belle Scheme

Not to mention the hopper cars also in that photo.I like the SP/Cotton Belt scheme and all other fallen flags of the UP.Any older scheme from any railroad looks good to me.

I love that KCS Southern Belle, however, has anyone noticed, that EVERY modern scheme has the same characteristics? Check out BNSF's H1, FEC's SD70M's and the KCS Southern Belle. They all feature the same stripe design... :(

I would venture to say you might be influenced by what you grew up with.
I still think the rotten pumpkin paint scheme of the Milwaukee Road looked like a hard working line.

Well growing up all I ever seen was NS, CSX and Conrail. All pretty plain. Being in Alaska now I have to say that the Alaska RR paint scheme looks pretty good. So my pick in Alaska RR.

Josh, you're right, but how else do you paint units that have nothing but straight lines and sharp angles? Even earlier Geeps and U-Boats at least tried to soften the lines by having rounded noses and curving lines from the body to the roof. Today's locomotives are assembled from stamped parts welded together with as few bends as possible and any bend is always angular. That ES44 has about as attracive a paint scheme as you can get on what looks like a rolling machine shop. I remember a statement from the president of EMD that the GP-7 was designed to be ugly so it wouldn't hurt F units sales. We've now seen the culmination of that philosophy. :)

Very true Jim, however the scheme is still un-inventive. Look at CSX, NS & UP, they have their own.

To me, it reminds me of early diesel "factory schemes" where they had 4-5 different styles that they just switched colors on.

Evidence on the top of my head is the schemes of Leigh Valley & Copper Range, both the same "stock" Baldwin scheme, with different colors. That's why the, BNSF, FEC, KCS, and Alaska scheme are so boring to me. I'm even a BNSF fan and I find the scheme boring.

I could be biased here, but the blue and orange with white pinstripes of the Maryland Midland looks great. Lets just hope it doesnt turn G&W yellow and mustard (Ewwwwwww) anytime soon! At least mine will never change colors!:p
