Best can motor for varney Casey jones

I just acquired a varney Casey jones for free and got it running but wanting to re motor/dcc it I have a motor idk if it will work tho Tia.

I've never found a good can motor, the boiler and firebox is too narrow.

A Sagami MC90 or MC94 for Tyco/Mantua steamers might work. You may have to change the gears, though. I just put an MC94 like this one into the modified Mantua 4-6-0 below it. The MC94 is a conversion kit designed for the Mantua 4-6-0, which has a very narrow boiler and firebox. If it fits that, one should fit a Varney 4-6-0.

Alright will have to try it I have a small can motor that I’m going to try but I’m afraid that the shaft is not long enough.

I can't help with the can motor, but was able to find a new, unused Casey Jones on ebay. The wheels had deteriorated, but the motor was perfect.

I had a couple earlier models with the solid wheels and made a very nice locomotive with the assortment of parts.

The shell from the 1962 "K" had by far the best detail, and that was the one with the new motor. The wheels were from a 1955 model. I had to press the drivers into the 1962 geared axel to make it work.
