Athearn RTR CNW Dash 9 Project

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Detail associates castings are plastic and are to-scale, but you need to drill them out. Details West castings are pewter and are slightly larger than scale, and come both drilled and undrilled.

Railflyer makes the best plastic castings that are cast with the hole so theres no need to drill them and they are to scale. Also, with railflyer, the housing is plastic, the stand is brass.

if you dont mind me asking...where did you get just the lenses for the ditch lights? they look like DW but I cannot find just the lenses only the whole ditch light....thanks again! looks fantastic!

For lenses its part Details West #341 HO Hdlt Enhance Lense 6"

any way u can post pics of how to wire in the ditch lights? and what products do you use?

Sorry it took so long, but I have uploaded some pictures to show my setup. Since it is the older RTR board I had to spice in to the 9pin to get F1. On newer RTR boards, they come with a solder location labeled F1 and F2.

NOTE* Make sure you tape up and isolate all connections before testing. If they touch and are not taped up it will fry F1 on the DCC decoder. Lets just say I have had to get F1 fixed on a decoder from doing this. OOPS

Interesting... How come you didn't shrink-wrap the resistor leads? Also, is there enough clearance for the wires so that the frame doesn't pinch them to the shell?
