I'm a relatively inexperienced model builder. Need a steel mill for a portion of my layout. Am considering Walthers' Ashland Iron & Steel blast furnace and rolling mill. Are these particularly difficult models to assemble? If so, are there good alternatives out there? Thanks for your input.

Any Walthers kit is pretty easy to assemble. All the parts are already detailed and on sprues. Ya just have to trim the flash from them and connect them where the instructions show ya. After it's assembled, you can do some detail painting where ya want to. Install interior lighting if ya want but then ya need to install flooring on multi level structures.
It's just the old Campbell type kits that ya need to put a bit of thought to before cutting up the stock that they provide.

I have just completed the blast furnace, (great kit) but take your time and I found it easier to to paint as you build as it is a very large kit.

It will test your patience in some parts but it is worth in the long run.

Be warned though it takes up quite a bit of space on the layout.

Good luck
Gary
