OK, looking at two options, option A, go Euro/German phase III/IV, or option B, modern American and build a smaller 'German' Board later.
Issues:
1. German power unit wheels, and can not be adapted to DCC so I am stuck with analog.
2. Lack of cantenary mast system. I have just enough of the old Arnold 'dummy' masts for the outer mainline 'loop' and station sets for two medium sized stations and one medium 'yard'. Arnold went out of business years ago, aquired by Hornsby?, do not plan on remanufacturing dummy cantenary system.
3. Modified #4 KATO turnouts for old German power units, but the #6's still do not 'work'. So stuck with just #4's modified.
4. Costs, modern German power units near 2X the cost of American, powered cantenary will run upwards of $4500 for track plan envisioned.

5. Want to go big, and cost efficient, KATO track seems way to go with my eyesight, a little more expensive than flex and cork, but easier to work with.
So opinions and suggestions welcome before I am at point of no return.
Just a few pics of the experiment of yesterday:
Some 'bomb' damage to repair, only a small part of the 'city'.
temporary 'loop' the other board is the 'L' not yet started.
