got some new stuff, local craiglist FTW. perhaps i'm getting carried away but i couldn't resist.
2 genesis cars, amazing detail! (never seen in person). i really like the turning hub caps. will need to fix some minor damage on these. shame that original owner did not keep the boxes oh well
athearn RTR box and walthers bulk. perhaps childish but i just liked the color scheme on that box.
athrean ATSF tank set. i don't really like the markings, wish it was all black (maybe repaint way later). one of the cars missing wheelset out of each truck. sheesh...
got BNSF GP40X and a ACF hopper. now i have consist of 7 ACF's and proper power to pull them. will not fit the shelf unfortunately. engine will need maintenance, it sounds strange.
i think i officially got to much stuff now.
going to build 2 more shelves
on the downside, i somehow managed to brake the lens on my DSLR
Anton, you'll have some nice cars once you get them fixed. The MD&W boxcar paint is accurate for the early 80's. The 4 mile long railroad was owned by Boise Cascade and they all had the Boise Cascade pine tree logo. Boise sold the line in 2006. The same cars were painted all green sometime in the mid-90's and looked like this:
I've never seen real tank cars with those stripe markings and certainly not for the era that the ATSF cars represent. Does it look like a factory paint job or decals? Strange. I can't find any reference to this striping scheme in my 2005 edition of the first responders guide to hazardous materials so, if the striping is real, it had to happen after 2005, when the Santa Fe was long gone.

Your BNSF engine looks like it wants to fly.
not a steal but IMHO not to bad either.
All i really wanted is another ACF hopper to add to consist and proper power (had no BNSF engines). the guy was getting rid of MRR things completely so he obviously wanted to sell all.
we settled on 50 for the engine, 10 per RTR cars, 15 for genesis. 40 for the tank set. i'm quite poor haggler.
on the minus side - no boxes hence some minor damage. engine missing front guards. on the plus - he threw in the cars i desided to skip on following "i don't have anything to do with these anymore anyways" reason and agreed to drive to a meet (was quite a drive for both of us).
the engine is actually newer RTR, seethrough fan grilles and DCC quick plug equipped.
the shelf is nothing hi tech really. quickly thrown together but very convinient.
yep, those are 1X2. maple nevertheless , lol . one of the menards stores was moving and had "everything must go" sale. i stopped by on one of the last days when it seemed like it was looted already. they were almost trying to throw out stuff. didn't really have a need but i couldn't walk by near 1$ for a 8ft stick, got a bunch and it sat in my garage for over a year. so it was as good of a use as any. i probably didn't have to have rails nailed to these but i'm not goign to use that steel track anyways
the last piece started to warp, so the last top shelf is "smiling". and there is that "wanna be evil" cat.
Josh and Nate, I've seen the Santa Fe domestic water cars with the stripe markings out in the desert, serving facilities with no other water source. I've never, in 35 years of railfanning in California and most of the West, seen a Santa Fe tank car with those markings for commodity type, so I assume it wasn't very widespread. It's actually a great idea. I wish it would be mandated for all tank cars that carry a specifc commodity. Having responded to several train wrecks, it's pretty tough to find a placard in a jumbled mass of cars. I'm also surprised there wasn't even a note about the Santa Fe markings in any of my hazmat responder manuals
