That's really coming along well. I like the way you weathered the loading area. How did you weather the cement area?

Dave,

Started with a complete coat of aged concrete, then light over-coat of concrete, then light over-coat of primer, then a wash of Quick Age. The grill was brush painted with some Artisan water mixable oil colour Burnt Sienna.
 


Nice stuff Jerome. I'd like to see more of your engine shops shown in the photo w/ the switcher too if it is posted somewhere.

im really liking that service pit. Probably one of the best detailed ones i've seen available. If and whenever i get a layout going this will be part of it.
 
Wow that's a really nice service set up. From the other photo I thought it was a shop interior but now I see it is an outdoor stand alone area. very nice indeed. Thanks Jerome.

Still have a bit of piping to do yet. The unloading headers are for tank trucks, not rail cars though.
 
Stephen, nothing lately. I've got the diesel facility, 4 fuel tanks, pumphouse, off-loading header area and 2 stall engine house built and completed.

I'm kinda at a crossroads on this one. Right now it all sits on a 2' x 4' piece of 2" blue foam board. The problem is............I have too much stuff on it to fit with some kind of reality. If I try to compress it all in, I think it would be way over crowded. Still thinking on it some.
 
Sounds like a common issue with modeling. I would be sure you don't over crowd it to much so it ends up looking fake. You go to good a start for it to be all cramped up. Maybe you need to add an extra foot to the foam base and give the items some room.

I wanted to check in and see if you had a chance to work with those drains yet? Just wanted to know how they work out.

Dave, you must have a spy down here that knows when I'm working on things!!! LOL I did some decal work on the 4 tanks this weekend. I still need to do a bit of weathering on them, but I'd say that part is 95% complete now. Here's the overall layout with everything where it should be now.

The drains are all located where they will be sunk into the foam board.

You like how I have an eye on everything out there - HA!

That's looking good. Remember to not sink the drains all the way in if you plan to have any scenery like rocks or gravel level to the edge of the drains.

Dave, they'll be about 1 scale foot above the surrounding dirt. BTW, what did you use on that last hopper you weathered for the very dark colored rust?? Need a "how-to" lesson on that one please!!
