A new beginning inspired from my old Central Midland Layout

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Not sure if I understand what you mean by port plugged.? You have any pictures?
Maybe I'm using the wrong term. The iPhone 4 speakers had the main opening for the sound as well as a smaller opening on the side which is on the opposite side of the speaker membrane (sort of like a base reflex speaker has a port - hence my terminology). I do not have pictures and of course the loco and all the speakers (I bough about a gross of them) is in a box somewhere tossed into the mess from moving.

How do you manage to fit 4 of those speakers into one loco?
Think of how thin an iPhone is. They are very flat and can fit almost anywhere. Basically two beside (well near) the pivot of each truck.

And apparently I lied. I looked up iPhone 4 speaker and the photos that came up are NOT the unit I have. Nor do the iPhone 5 speakers look right. The iPhone 7+ speakers looks most like them but still not right, plus I am pretty sure I had these before the 7 was even introduced. So a new mystery to figure out exactly what I've got.

install note: If you use a Soundtraxx decoder with the 2 amp speaker amplifier then you need to wire in two iPhone speakers minimum. The iPhone speakers are only 1 amp and will burn the amplifier out of your board. How do I know? Because I just sent one of my decoders back because of that reason. I just purchased soundtraxx mini cube speakers. You still have to use 2 of them and yes they are more expensive, but so are burnt-out decoders. Just some FYI for you all.

Updates coming soon. It's time to get back to the layout after a busy summer. My 2-year-old grandson is hooked on the train layout now and I have been running it a lot more lately-it is getting me very motivated.

The train show and swap meet will be in southern Ohio. I am going to start investing in a lot more scenery and trees. I started working on trees and brush around the trestle bridge. I have added canoers and fishermen. The trees and brush are not glued in place yet. I'm just trying to see what looks good. Feels good to get back to doing some scenery.

You have to love and hate Woodland Scenics. They have the coolest models, and that is why I hate them. They prevent me from building some structures, but on the positive side, they give me time to do other things. I had a dead corner on my layout and did not know what to do with it. Well, I saw this come out from Woodland and now my dead corner has some life. I think it turned out pretty good. Starting back on the layout after taking some time off. My 2-year-old grandson wants to see trains every day. Got me interested again.

These are the roadside cottages I just purchased. They light up, too. I'll post some more pictures when I am completely done.

I like this scene a lot, it's a great use of that little corner.

Good Morning and Merry Christmas to all. I thought I would share some new additions to my layout VIA my 3D printer. I have had a lot of fun printing models and weathering them. The first is an electric substation I was going to buy from Woodland Scenic for around $90.00. Theirs was a bit larger than my space so I found this and printed it. It came out pretty good. The total print cost was $8.42.
Next is a Hopper project I did. This is the 4th car I have printed. Everything on this is 3d printed except for the couplers, Wheels, and decals. The total cost on this one was around $13.20 ( Most of the cost was in the wheels, decals, and couplers. )

All and all I am very happy with them. I have been printing background buildings and other structures. Makes a great addition to my railroad and saves me a few dollars so I can buy other train stuff.

There were cabins like these just down the road from where I grew up. They were somewhat run down in 1968, probably built in the 40's or earlier. Built right along US 61 that Bob Dylan wrote about.

They rented by the night, week, or month.

Happy New Year. If you have been following this thread you may remember when I built a town hall next to my Gazebo. I was never pleased with it, seemed out of place to me. So I 3D - printed a new town hall. It looks more like a courthouse but courthouses and town halls are together in many small towns. Please feel free to comment your honest opinions. I have attached the original town hall ( White with blue roof) and the new 3D-printed one.
