A) Freight you like vs freight you don’t like… B) Road names you like vs roads you don’t like…

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I've always liked the old billboard reefers. Illegal, obsolete, but colorful. My layout can't support running the long beasts so stick to smaller boxcars, hoppers and a few tank cars. Partial to the CB&Q, CNW and the GM&O. There doesn't seem to be a lot of models of GM&Os equipment out there.
Agree GM&O is one of the under appreciated and under modeled railroads. I am certain there are more, but off the top of my head I can only think of a GP30, GP35, and Alco FA-B locomotives painted for GM&O.

GM&O, IIRC, used a hi-nose locomotive of some kind. Maybe a GP-20 or GP-7 or-9. I wasn't crazy about the GM&O and Illinois Central merger. I like the green diamond Illinois Central paint, and that went away for that ugly orange and white paint after the merger.

I just remember their Alco switchers doing the Glenn yard down my street as a kid. That and their equally ancient E powered passenger trains.

Even picky old me was able to come up with something.
I'm not picky.
Maybe not "don't like" but like least.
If I had to pick the one, I like the least it would be the C&O.

Many years ago, I was a Coal Sampler at the Baltimore piers. The Norfolk office looked down on Baltimore. The C&O served Norfolk, guilt by association.

@BigJakeJ1s Welcome to the Forums Andy, we are glad to have you with us!

heheheh, that would make you an old timer if you pulled a throttle on an NYC. I was still in grade school.

"that would make you an old timer if you pulled a throttle on an NYC"

I hired out on Conrail in 1979.
The list above is the territory I got to work over.
The O&W went out of business in 1957. But 30 years later I was running a Conrail engine by their former main offices in Middletown (NY), on what were probably original O&W-installed rails.

Hmmm...
I should have included the Central Vermont in the list above.
Except I ran passenger on their tracks...

Oh, I see. I still call the Union Pacific tracks through Kansas by its original name "Kansas Pacific". Of course the mile posts are still KPxxx.

I have equipment and roads that I'm partial to, but I wouldn't say I "dislike" any particular road or equipment type.

I'm also partial to the Q, and CNW, as I rode both as a boy from the '40's through 1960. I do have trains, especially passenger trains, from the NP and GN, mainly their streamline name trains, BEFORE the merger. Can't stand the post-merger green-black-and white of the BN. BNSF schemes are okay, if a little after my era!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Green board all the way!

Interesting. Originally I did not like the Casacade green scheme. But then after they were gone for a while they sure looked good when I saw and oldie running around. And I HATE the BNSF schemes. Orange and Green are a technical eyesore, and orange and black is Halloween. then that wedgie logo is the worst.
