I actually know a person who has a pair of caboose lights and a set of 4 different color globes lanterns all nos but does not want to let them go
We live in a big rr area, crossing of the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Soo Line, and Chicago Northwestern. I should not have any problem, with a little patience.

I finished the fascia today, ran out of paint though:

west end of layout.JPG

I got all the old backdrop up, and made a new workbench. It slides under the layout, all my tools are on it now. Will be glad when the carpentry tools can go back in the garden shed (tomorrow afternoon perhaps)

east end, new workbench.JPG

I started playing with the track, it is set up according to the plan posted earlier. There will be some structures on the spur with the turntable (it is not for an engine shed, but simply to turn the locomotive around) There will be a hill between the two tracks and lots of trees, a regular forest with some logging. I may put a spur on the siding for loading logs.

here is the backdrop from the old layout, it looks better when the scenery is done and in more of a closeup. The pile of track is from the old layout.

Wow! You've made a lot of progress, I really like that trestle you have in the 2nd photo. By the way, I just thought you'd like to know that I put in an order with Tractor Supply for the same type of Sealtech insulation you've been using in your layout room. Should be here just before Christmas. Based on how well you said yours is working, I really look forward to putting my own up. Thanks for telling me about it!:)

Planning the end of the shed, going around the big curve. Pinning the track down is a really easy way to firm up the plan, will be putting the logging area up here and the Groningen townsite will be moved to the straight stretch just prior to this .

planning continues.JPG

The track will be adjusted here, that first turnout will be moved down and a forest with the logging scene will be placed on the big curve.

new track came yesterday, decided to use all new on the mainline and the used track will go on sidings and spurs

The St. Croix river bridge will be the starting point, today got it shaped up with the abutments and river banks created with screen and hydrocal:

first coat.JPG

I mixed this batch a little runny, haven't done this for several months so not surprised that I need to tweak my formula. No matter, for the base coat it isn't going to hurt anything, just take longer to dry. It is just aluminum screen with damp paper towels over them under the hydrocal.

3 coats.JPG

It doesn't show up very well because of the color, however it will be painted and landscaped. I will be putting another top coat over the banks and a thin coat over the river bed so the wood does not show. The river bed will be painted hues of blue and green, sand and rocks on the shore, and vegetation on the stream banks. Rocks go inside the middle support, as the prototype was constructed.

abutment.JPG

The area around the abutments is roughed in. This material can be sanded.

Here is another look at the prototype. This photo was taken by Ron Nixon in april of 1950. This section of track was completed in 1901 and runs from Rush City, MN to Grantsburg, WI

St. Croix River Bridge.png

It is a wooden truss bridge and could only support a small steam locomotive like the S-10 shown above.

Will be working on this area and the section of track that follows in the coming week

Am i seeing things, or is the cow catcher also made out of wood?

I spent most of the day in the train shed today, made a lot of progress on the river and track going to Grantsburg,

todays progress.JPG

The tan paint is left over from repaint of the old train room, there will be envirotex coating over the river, a few rocks and the shores will be vegetation and not bare ground. I couldn't stand the bright white

local for Grantsburg depot.JPG

The Grantsburg depot goes with the 16' x 40' rectangle (to be built) with the turntable. All this track is fastened down. The foam will only be on the mainline and these minor tracks will be fastened right to the waferboard

Totally redid the track by Groningen, passing siding and team track, the depot looks a lot smaller, will have to raise it up a little.

Groningen taking shape.JPG

Put in another hill just before the depot. At the big curve there will be a forest and logging scene. The track goes up the grade to the right and the quarry will be over there.

another new hill.JPG

I use aluminum screen and hydrdocal. Makes a strong hill. Separates the turntable at Grantsburg from the mainline to Groningen.

Don't expect to make any progress tomorrow, taking the wife to Duluth for shopping and lunch out. Saturday will resume this hill and getting the bed landscaped in.
