3’x4’ or 3 11”x 4’ , what would you do?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

The chocolates might work, flowers would be roses. Have to work on plan b just to be safe…🤔🤔
Plan B:

Here's what you do. Tell her you're going to build a layout in your spare time after my household duties are done (really ham this part up). Show some photos of some smaller ones but say It's going to be something like this, but don't be too specific.

Then when you have her blessing build your sections out of sight to the size you want (have it all ready and test fit). Then when she's out, scramble to assemble it. Once it's in the house your golden! When she balks at the size, you play the approval card, and say I said similar, as in it has trains and track.

@wombat457, your forgetting one thing…patience. Good things come to those that wait. I’m planning on getting more material pre staged in my storage unit so I’ll have it ready to go.

If it were that easy…😁😁

I’m married to a pack rat. Trying to get her to sort out things isn’t going well. I’ve been a bad boy and made things disappear to the dumpster…👹👹 Hasn’t said anything yet…😗😗

That sir, is just plain brilliance at work. 🤣

Permission/Remission/Submission: skip it all, be a MAN/WOMAN; depending. Just 'do it' whenever you need/want something. Sucking up comes later and that does have its benefits. If I had a basement it would have been mine. I ended up with a 30'x40' outbuilding that she does not care about; except she does know where to look for tools!

That’s definitely gonna happen tonight!!! No outbuilding for me but I’m claiming some space for myself!!!

This reminds me of a fellow in Winnipeg (legendary now) who every week pushed the basement wall of his hobby room out just a couple inches. I’m guessing there were no marks on the floor or wall to show the glacial move.
Over time he gained a pretty good space for the layout!

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do!!

Thats a great story. :D

I'm the pack rat in our house, and my spouse keeps throwing away valuable model railroad scenery supplies. "It was just a bag of small rocks", no it was very expensive bag of n-scale ballast.

That’s why my model railroading items are under lock and key. This way the wife or 3 children can’t mess with it. They’ve got the rest of the apartment to put their stuff…which I’m going to be going through…one way or another!!!

I am the same - my wife has a room fer her hobbies and things and I have a room for mine so there are no arguments or complaints about what we have, or don't have, in or respective space :)

I’m laying claim to a corner of my living room. Roughly 33” deep by 7’ long. Not the space I wanted but it’s a start. Back to the drawing board for me.
