That’s really coming along, I like how you framed it in!
I’ve never used OSB but I do know it’s superior to the older version, chip board.
I’m using plywood myself but I noticed one of the sheets resists track nails very well.

Rick - the last plywood sheet I bought likes to bend track nails, also. So I keep the drill handy for pilot holes. Next time, I'll have to specify "track nail friendly" grade plywood

My last 2 layouts I used OSB board for the sheeting, and had no issues. As stated the cost savings is significant. I sealed it with a cheap latex paint.

The only thing I dislike about OSB is the glue smell. It just never went away!

I still have to put rolling mills, coke ovens ,shops and lots of other buildings offices, medical center, scenery and coke oven byproducts plant stay tuned.

A lot depends on where you're located and how big the layout is. I live in Seattle, and so humidity is always a factor. After time, OSB can swell and crack, especially in damp locations. Painting helps with that though.

I'm old school, so I prefer plywood. I'd use 3/4" structural grade if I was building a layout today. But if I was starting my layout over, I'd only need 3 or 4 sheets. Being in the PNW has it's advantages, I can get a 4 x 8 sheet for under $40. The thick OSB is about 20, so in small quantities, the price difference isn't huge. For a large layout like this one? That's a different matter, far more financial impact.

Linder very nice start! I will be watching closely! I currently have a temp layout in a bedroom but I will be building a 20x60 garage this spring. I am very intrigued with the steel on the ceiling. I have a few questions:

1. Do you have insulation above the corugated steel? If so what did you use or do you have membrane barrier? I wonder about this if I did this in my garage expansion I may use icynene foam insulation....got me thinking. I live in Upstate NY so I need to insulate my garage etc...I like how the steel reflects the lighting. Creative!

2. You mentioned Menard's so I am guessing you are in Ohio? I am curious as to how you are handling climate control. Could you elaborate on this a bit?

3. What control system will you be using Digitrax? or other.

Yes I have blown insulation in the space above the steel. the walls are brick I put studs and spray foam with dry wall as for the a/c and heating I bought mobile home a/c and heat unit and installed on the back of the building yes I leave OH I use Digitrax system. one other thing the temp in the building is at 70 degrees all the time. here is a few more pics.
