1st layout design competition

You might have gotten more submissions if you'd have either set the mainline minimum radius at 18" or expanded the size to 5x10 while keeping the 22" minimum radius. I for one have plenty of plans already drawn up that would meet those criteria. BTW, looking at both designs only the winner actually met the criteria.

Awe man... 5' x 10' makes a huge difference in possibilities, that's kind of like the crossover point from one world to another!

But he may already be pushing it at a 4' x 8'.

Indeed. Right now, CPR Zee's submission is the only one with 22" minimum mainline radius, and on the outside loop only. There's no way the other two submissions could be built on a 4' x 8' table with 22" radius mainline curves, as there just wouldn't be enough room.

Regardless, I still like the other two submissions also. They are still very nice designs.

The 22" radius and etc. is the entire challenge premise of the competition, getting rid of it would kind of ruin the point of the whole thing.

I like the "roundhouse without the turntable" idea. It looks good, and takes up a lot less room that way.

Ok, so it's been a bit since I posted the thread, and even though I only got two submissions; @CPR Zee and @Don Z1029 were the two contestants, and out of the two of them, CPR Zee won!

Oh, I see 22" min only on the mainline.

I challenge you to design a track plan for a 4x8 HO scale layout! The competition will start NOW, and you can design the layout however you want, as long as it meets the specifications below:
- 22" Mainline radius curves
- Miniumum no. 4 turnout
- Continuous mainline running (Loop)

I understand it's a lot to ask for, but I know there's a lot of crafty people on this forum!
The winner will be decided once there's plenty of submissions, and you will be credited in a follow-up thread with an attached image of your submission

You'd be better off increasing the size to 5x9 or 5x10 if you want to use 22r curves. There's not alot you can do in 4x8 with a 22r minimum.
